Hayes-Krauthammer: Mitch Daniels 2012 Man To Watch
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/24/2010 5:27:38 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

It's Christmas Eve, so let's treat ourselves to something conservative political junkies enjoy: handicapping the 2012 Republican field.

On the Fox News Special Report this evening, panelists Stephen Hayes and Charles Krauthammer both singled out Mitch Daniels as a man to watch. Hayes identifed the Indiana gov as perhaps the true Tea Party candidate—someone willing to speak the hard truths about the need for entitlement reform. The ever-interesting Krauthammer found Daniels' lack of charisma appealing--as an antidote to our overdose of hope-and-change.

I don’t know anything about the guy except that he was picked and supported by Lugar.

Daniels worked for Lugar at one time. He also did a 2-year stint as Director of Office and Management in Dubya Bush's administration. I met him once back when we were both Young Republicans working on the Bill Ruckelshaus campaign (running against Birch Bayh for Senator) and years later when he worked for the Hudson Institute. He's very smart, down-to-earth, nice guy, and all that, but he has some major areas that need work. For one, he doesn't seem to be all that concerned with important social issues like abortion; for another, I'm wary of his possible connections to CFR/NWO types.

BTW, Richard Lugar actually used to be a good man. He was a decent Mayor. Too many years in DC have caused him to contract Senate Sellout Disease. He definitely needs to be put out to pasture now, so I hope Indiana can find a good candidate to run against him in 2012.

That’s what I most recall about Daniels, his desire to cede all social issues to the Dems. After this week, with the DADT vote which introduced a malignant cancer into the American military, and the impending momentum for imposing gay-marriage on the country... I’m in a damned unforgiving mood towards any Republicans taking Daniels’ ‘fiscal-only’ approach. Furious, even.

For one, he doesn't seem to be all that concerned with important social issues like abortion;

Daniels is already on record, recommending that the Republican Party should not run on social issues in 2012.

So, if he is indeed running, he started out by infuriating half his base. Not very smart, politically.

You mean like Anakin Skywalker?

Of course, that's also one of the reasons why Daniels is appealing to Krauthammer -- who finds the social issues so, so common.

And Krauthammer is also impressed with Obama's performance because he "won" on the issue of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Krauthammer cares little for the conservative view on social issues. They only matter to the "common people".

He may have other shortcomings, but Daniels is rock solid on social issues.

His first act as Governor was to revoke recognition of state employee unions. He pushed a law through the legislature requiring that a mother be offered an ultrasound of her unborn infant before an abortion. He successfully appealed a Federal Court judge's order pretending to tell the state legislature to stop praying. Oh, and he rides a Harley (which would provide an interesting contrast to the pictures of Mr. Obama on a girl's bicycle).

After the media jammed John McCain down our throats, I no longer pay any heed to what the “big guns” of journalism have to say about candidates.

I’m tired of seeing a Leftist group telling conservatives who the “front runner” will be. Sorry. Not buying. Thanks anyway.

Mitch Daniels???

Even Huckabee is more conservative than Daniels.

The only thing good about Daniels is that he’s a fiscal hawk. Outside of that he’s just another Democrat-Lite.

I’m surprised at Hayes.

I'm not. He and Kraut (and Daniels) are cut from the same cloth -- fiscally conservative, socially lib. I've heard Hayes refer to himself as "squishy on immigration" a few times.

I used to really respect Krauthammer, but as time passed, and the more I heard him talk, I began to see through a lot of his stuff. Then I learned that while he is an “M.D” he is actually a psychiatrist; a shrink! That frosted it for me!

Most of those guys are crazier than a chithouse rat. Those types just naturally gravitate to that profession. So Krauty talked a good game for a long time, but he has tipped his hand as far as I’m concerned. That goes for Rovey boy, too!

"...Krauthammer found Daniels' lack of charisma appealing--

Only an establishment hack who's looking for the Tea Party rebellion to fail in 2012 would even think such a thing.

KMA, Charles.

People who are completely unknown never win on the Republican side. Mitch Daniels is a complete unknown. Republicans never get famous enough to win in the process of running for President. Not saying he shouldn’t run, on the Republican side you really have to run at least once to get famous enough to win.

Judd Gregg is also thinking about running. He’s better known than Mitch Daniels, and I believe Gregg is conservative (but I could be wrong). Gregg has a huge advantage over most other of the unknowns because he’s from New Hampshire.

I agree 100%.

Added detail: Krauthammer is Canadian -- most (not all) Canadians are extremely Liberal. Krauthammer is also Jewish -- most (not all) Jews support the Democrats. Krauthammer is disabled -- many (not all) disabled people like the Americans with Disabilities Act(very big government) and hold out hope for Embryonic Stem Cell research. And, as you point out, he is a psychiatrist. I've known quite a few of those, and every single one has been a Liberal.

I simply don't trust Krauthammer anymore. I hear him talking lately and I can't help thinking "That's a Liberal position he's advocating."

Mitch “the toll road clown” Daniels is one SOB I would never vote for. Just drive on the mismanaged road system in Indiana and see what a sorry job and the sorry POS jerk has been doing. Speed laws in the state are a damn joke.

“Mitch “the toll road clown” “

...and he’s proud of handing over control of his toll road to a Spanish firm (in exchange for unconstrained tolling backed up by monopoly protection). My message to him - keep you SICK EXPERIMENTS in Indiana (or better yet, resign there).
