In a matter of weeks, Congress will go from trying to help young, illegal immigrants become legal to debating whether children born to parents who are in the country illegally should continue to enjoy automatic U.S. citizenship.
Such a hardened approach — and the rhetoric certain to accompany it — should resonate with the GOP faithful who helped swing the House in Republicans' favor. But it also could further hurt the GOP in its endeavor to grab a large enough share of the growing Latino vote to win the White House and the Senate majority in 2012.
Legislation to test interpretations of the 14th Amendment as granting citizenship to children of illegal immigrants will emerge early next session. That is likely to be followed by attempts to force employers to use a still-developing web system, dubbed E-Verify, to check that all of their employees are in the U.S. legally.

The liberal media would like to propagate that Americans are pro-illegal, but I think one issue that binds Americans across party lines is their opposition to illegal immigration and pandering to the Latino fascist groups.
I actually believe that a hard line approach is politically better for the GOP than a pandering, supplicating approach, despite what the liberal propagandists in the media spew on a regular basis about the GOP losing Hispanics over the illegal issue.
If we don't roll over for amnesty and open borders, we will lose the Latino vote. /s

I think you’re a 100% correct. Talking to local legal immigrants, they are either lying to me or they don’t want the illegals either.
If we don’t get the border/illegals under control there won’t be much of a country left to worry about.
Pandering to the racist elements of the “Latino vote” will only make the matter worse. Give them enough numbers, as of now, and look at how the concept of “illegal” doesnt seem to matter. More more birthright citizens. The time to stop is now. No more excuses. If Latinos want to punish candidates, then the results will be more and more Anglos coming over to the conservative side
Better now than later. Pandering for votes and looking the other way is what got us here in the first place.
Sometimes it’s hard to do the right thing. Hopefully the new Tea Party Repub’s coming in will do the right thing regardless of the screaching from the lefties.

This is a stupid question. If your parents are here ILLEGALLY how can that possibly under any stretch of the imagination make you LEGAL? It cannot and it was never intended to do so.
Every poll I have seen on the subject has been over 90% and against “anchor babies”.

The "growing Latino vote" will only get larger if the Pubbies allow amnesty in any form, and they ain't a'gonna vote anything but Democrat if they do get it.
I remain eternally skeptical of advice given by the left about what the GOP should do to win.
This is kinda funny, since the GOP just picked up two House seats in formerly Dimocrat, predominately Latino districts in South Texas.
Which you won’t hear about on NPR because it just doesn’t fit their template.

That’s because the Rule of Law is the unspoken theme at the center of this article. Liberals/Progressives ignore it totally, and this is at their peril.
Once the Rule of Law breaks down no one is safe in public, at home, or in their person.
I suspect the majority of Libs don’t perceive this fact — they’re totally operating on emotion with this issue and the desire to hopefully acquire more Democratic voters.
They’re being used by that faction which wants to overturn and gut the U.S.A., then establish a communist government amid the chaos.
George Soros has a hell’uva lot of money wrapped up in this issue.
I think there is a distinction between the average American and the party and media elites.
I don’t know too many average Americans along the entire political spectrum who are pro-illegal and pro-amnesty. Only the hard core Marxists on the left support it and the profiteers on the right support it. They are in the minority, but they have a lot of money and power.
The reason why a comprehensive immigration reform or amnesty bill can’t get passed in Congress is because average Americans are opposed in vast numbers..
This is why you see the liberal media in full propaganda mode all the time trying to brainwash the American people into passing something that they know is not in their best interests.
Yeah, it’s a crackdown: The DREAM act is dead and our government is actually considering enforcing its own laws.
