Ed Rendell: " We've become a Nation of Wusses "

Rendell was rankled by the league's decision to move the Philadelphia Eagles' home game against the Minnesota Vikings from Sunday night to Tuesday evening.

The NFL cited the winter storm that wound up slamming most of the East Coast as the reason for the change, but elected to postpone the game before any snow had even accumulated. About a foot of snow fell on Philadelphia, though less than 5 inches was on the ground before the scheduled kickoff at 8:20 p.m. EST Sunday night.

Rendell viewed the NFL's decision as a referendum on the toughness, or lack thereof, of the United States.

"My biggest beef is that this is part of what's happened in this country," Rendell said. "I think we've become wussies."

"We've become a nation of wusses. The Chinese are kicking our butt in everything," Rendell added. "If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been marching down to the stadium, they would have walked and they would have been doing calculus on the way down."

Rendell added. "If this was in China do you think the Chinese would have called off the game? People would have been forced to marching down to the stadium, they would have walked marched, at gun point if necessary, and they would have been doing calculus given free, forced abortions on the way down."

Fixed it, Comrade Rendell. Thank you for your service to The Cause.

Being compared to The Chinese is so...liberating. I'm a die-hard football fan, who's sat in the stands through all sorts of weather. The only time weather spoiled the fun was when the hail got big enough it started to hurt. The Chinese, though, aren't infested with packs of John Edwards' seeking to sue the pants off anyone who might possibly have made a decision that may have, in some small way, perhaps had a slight impact in maybe causing a less than ideal situation happen such that someone could have become injured. How 'bout, Comrade Rendell, if you work on the lawyer situation and help us all out?

You think the guy who only wants to allow me to buy one gun a month, buy my booze from him, take the Gov’t bus to work and not drive and basically would love a big Gov’t nanny state has a point on postponing his precious Eagles game?

You apparently don’t live under the Redull regime here in PA. He demands wussification as compliance to his mandates.

“...we think that is is only fitting that the Philadelphia Eagles change their uniforms to dresses and high heels because they are nothing but a bunch of sissies who are afraid of playing in a little bit of snow.”

Wish this was on a few billboards with some photoshopped Eagles in house dresses around the Philly area!

When you’re right, you’re right. That’s exactly, word for word, what I said to my husband when I heard they cancelled the game. We are a nation of wusses.

Yes, you did... and in the early 80s there was the Freezer Bowl. 59 below zero and a stadium full of people. Now, the weatherman come in and warn us of doom the minute the skies turn black.

No mention of the fact that hardly anyone would show up for the game due to the weather, meaning no gate, no money for the players and Philly. They’re all trying to get back home. What an idiot.

Although I did not see the Ice Bowl, I am a huge Dallas fan (even after they lost 27-26 on Christmas Day) so I know that the Ice Bowl was played during the day and that the weather, though bitterly cold, was sunny at least. This game was not supposed to start until after 8:00 pm and the full force of the storm would have been hitting Philadelphia during or just after the game when people were trying to get home. I tend to agree that we are becoming a nation of “wusses”, but, in this case, I think that the decision to postpone the game was a wise and prudent one.

>> Ed Rendell: “ We’ve become a Nation of Wusses “

Pathetic bravado and anecdote considering the legislative maneuvering the control freaks devised to tie the Country’s hands stripping away not only Liberties by ordinary fun!

In fairness to the young, we’re not a “Nation of Wusses”, but only a Nation governed by wuss makers.

For once, I agree with Rendell.

He tells it like it is. First of all, they still could have played the game, and televised it. Why not? Money from ticket and concession sales.

They could have just postponed it one day. Why not? Money from TV.

Eagles fans are upset because they have to play two games 5 days apart.
