Society Of Professional Journalists Claim 'Illegal Immigrant' Is An 'Offensive' Term Wednesday, December 29, 2010 By Eric Scheiner

The Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) have announced an educational campaign against the term “illegal immigrant” seeking to inform reporters that the term “illegal immigrant” is “offensive” to Latinos.

In the latest issue of SPJ’s magazine ‘Quill’, SPJ’s Diversity Committee member Leo Laurence writes about the campaign referencing the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ recommendation to use “undocumented immigrant” or “undocumented worker” and to “Avoid using ‘illegal(s)’ as a noun.”

In the article Laurence also makes a constitutional argument against the term 'illegal immigrant', “One of the most basic of our constitutional rights is that everyone (including non-citizens) is innocent of any crime until proven guilty in a court of law. That’s guaranteed under the Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution.”

“Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal,” Laurence adds.

Notice that this punk considers the rulings of his Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists equivalent to those of a court of law? That's no metaphor he's using - this is literally the Newspeak committee!

IMHO, Laurence should be hanged for sedition and treason. How's that for invoking the law?

Has any Federal judge proven this alleged ‘professor’ to be what he claims?

“Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal,” Laurence adds.

I'd have more sympathy with this point of view if Journalists didn't have any trouble proclaiming on the legality or otherwise of a whole range of other subjects.

It reminds me of the National Press Club bar on Friday afternoons. You want to see a bunch of miserable people? Take a look sometime.

Cheap bastids also. Lousy drunks...blithering nonsense with pontificating attitudes.
And its the same worldwide for "western" journolistas. American and Brits are the worst. Next are ex-pat Brits. Aussie journos, the male ones for the most part, will at least buy a round.

I agree. The proper term should be “criminal alien”.

I’ll tell you what’s offensive. The governement failing or refusing to enforce the law. Failing to root them out where ever they are and deport them. Paying them with my tax dollars to live here. I’m damned offended. There should be a $50 bounty on them, that would reduce the unemployment rate. I’d quit my job and take a cut in pay just to make America a better place to live.

“At this point in time, I equate a Professional Journalist with a prostitute because they both will *uck someone for money.”

Perhaps they are also known as “presstitutes” for the same reason?

So, these people believe the Constitution says, "Everyone (including non-citizens) is innocent of any crime until proven guilty in a court of law."? I don't think so. This, people, is how Christmas became Winter Festival.

The goal is to define Latino as code for illegal alien.

Hispanic = legal and probably conservative.

Latino = illegal alien AND democrat voter.

I guess they’ll never learn... or perhaps they actually DO understand,

that whatever term they use, it eventually gets the “information” attached to it that describes the meaning behind the label.

This is why the left constantly has to re-label themselves.
