'Run, Herman, Run!'
American Spectator ^ | 12/27/10 | Robert Stacy McCain

Posted on 12/29/2010 8:16:05 PM PST by pissant

Herman Cain laughs at being described as "Steve Forbes with charisma," but finds the comparison flattering. "That's quite a compliment.… I have the greatest amount of respect for him."

The former CEO of Godfather's Pizza and Atlanta talk-radio host notes that he supported Forbes during the publishing executive's unsuccessful 2000 Republican presidential primary campaign, and Forbes endorsed Cain's 2004 Senate bid in the Georgia GOP primary.

Now, Cain is on the verge of embarking on his own presidential campaign, hiring staffing and preparing to form an exploratory committee. The combination of Forbes-like economic savvy and his own charismatic personality has triggered a remarkable level of excitement around Cain's candidacy. He emerged the victor two weeks ago in an online poll at the popular Red State conservative blog. Organized in an elimination bracket format, that survey pitted Cain against Sarah Palin in the final round and -- although, of course, such Internet polls are not scientific -- the result demonstrated the Georgia businessman's appeal to the conservative grassroots. Red State editor Erick Erickson said he "wouldn't put too much stock" in the poll result, but added: "I would say it is a good sign for Herman Cain that, being relatively unknown, he can generate that much enthusiasm for himself."

I hope he doesn't. I can't vote for him as president in the primary.

I would love to have him as governor, senator or representative - and president - but he isn't fluid enough in his presentation.

I listen to him at night and he has improved dramatically, but he still isn't there.

I welcome both Sarah and Cain into the race, what a breath of fresh air both will be to Romneybee. My vote will go to whoever performs best in the primary campaign.

Enjoy listening to Herman Cain speak, but he is a unknown across America

I truly don't get that type of logic. If conservative people like you supported him he wouldn't be "unknown" to the Republican base. If he then won the primary he wouldn't be "unknown" to the general voting public. 0bama was "unknown" until he ran and the left started liking what he had to say.

Please....Tell me what about HIM (not how much or how little others know of him) is inferior to Palin. Is she smarter than him? Is she more articulate than him? Is she more likable than him? Does she have more executive experience than him? Does she have more business experience than him? Is she more conservative than him? No wait...I have heard the explanation before. "You just don't get it."

He can run a pizza company. Let’s see him run a city or a state.

Why don’t you let the man run, allow everybody to hear what he has to say, and let the chips fall where they may.

I’m just amazed at the amount of people trying to put the pre-kabosh on candidates running. A lot of these people seem to be the same ones constantly whining about the lack of candidates with genuine conservative credentials...sheesh

You missed my point, which was vote for too many conservatives, and we’ll surely get a second McCain (or a third Dole). Herman Cain hasn’t shown his ability to win an election, even in a primary. This alone will make sure he’s not going to go anywhere except splitting the votes. of course, as you said, make it easy. Just support people like Hunter, Cain, etc., who may have good conservative ideas but are not appealing at all to the masses (conservatives or not).

I’ve had it with ‘politicians’ and all their ‘fluid presentations’, sorry.

Palin and Cain are the only two on my list at this point. The viseral hate those on the left AND right have toward her could be a problem.
