If the Republicans vote to raise the “debt ceiling”, we should disown them!
I’ve already heard some of them on TV talking from both sides of their mouth. Claiming that if spending is cut, the debt ceiling can be raised.
SCREW THAT!! We need to CUT SPENDING, and if anything is done with the debt ceiling, it needs to be LOWERED! In 2006, 0bama voted against raising the debt ceiling, they should all follow his lead!
It’s gut check time for the republicans. Time to man up, or go the hell back home!
Already ready. We need more elephant guns. / s
America -- a great idea, didn't last.
1.Put all federal employees on a 3 day work week.
2. Put back all the unspent stimulus funds.
3. Cut the budget to 1996 levels.
We need to stay on them constantly!
Well, there ya’ go! If anything SUDDENLY goes wrong with the economy it's all the Republicans fault.
I'm guessing Obozo is expecting a “catastrophe”.
Count on it.
Sarah Palin could step up and make a difference on this issue. She can make if known that she’ll step up for candidates who vote conservatively on issues, and that she will “frown” on candidates who let us down. Her batting average in the last election gives her the golden touch.
The left built up the government one program at a time, and we should not expect the new GOP house be able to dismantle it all at once. We need a similar gradual approach and the debt ceiling offers that opportunity.
In exchange for a package of cuts, raise the debt ceiling enough for about three months. Then in three months time, demand another package of cuts. Then in six months time, demand another package of cuts. Repeat as needed.
Right... a trillion in the hole is not a crisis but not being able spend more is a crisis.
Which the Obama Administration isn’t about to waste.
What they should do instead is fight him with his own words from 2006 ...
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising Americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government cant pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. Increasing Americas debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
I just saw this. Pretty fun, about 29 minutes, good review of the history of money and the housing crash.

I don’t see how there’s much alternative, in the immediate short term, but to raise the debt ceiling. Spending needs to be drastically cut— Hell.. whole departments need to be cut... but that’s going to take the better part of the next term of congress to do. There just isn’t time to get anything done before the debt limit hits the wall.
