WASHINGTON -- Ascending to speaker of the House, Rep. John Boehner is ready to take the gavel from Democrat Nancy Pelosi, vowing to "give government back to the people" and bring an end to congressional gridlock.
"The American people have humbled us. They have refreshed our memories as to just how temporary the privilege to serve is," Boehner says in remarks prepared for his installation later today as the new speaker. "This is their Congress. It's about them, not us."

What is surprising is that my fellow Freepers weren’t all over this headline in this thread.
Don’t they mean 4 years of democrat dominence? I thought the DIMS took control in ‘06.

Democrats have been running the House since 2007 not since 2009 as the headline would have you believe.
I only saw him pat the perspiration off his upper lip twice, but I have to tell you that I’m SO GLAD he didn’t get all misty-eyed. The Dems will never let him forget that he is “emotional”, and from this day on it will be viewed as weakness. Hey, John, hold in that emotion and just DO YOUR JOB! And please don’t blow it - we Repubs are all watching!
That is correct. The Democrats took control of the House after the 2006 election.
Pelosi was introducing Boehner’s wife, and he wiped both eyes.
He also wiped his left eye right before he took the gavel.

I didn’t see when the eye-wiping happened. Well, let’s give the guy a pass for today - just today - and move on. If this keeps happening, the media will have a field day, which is one more thing they can hit us over the head with. Hope for the best - prepare for the worst.
yeah, i thought the same thing. Gridlock would have been a blessing! The liberals pushed TONS AND TONS of crappy laws through. i WISH we’d have had gridlock!
I personally thought his tears were touching. It makes me feel very proud to know that at least ONE of our politicians has a heart and feelings.
He went on and on about it, which tells me it's the new template for Dave that we will be seeing on a daily basis.
I remember him kissing up to Pelosi when he had her on a few years ago. Dave is an A hole, but we knew that when he went after Palin’s Daughter. No class, just like the current occupants of the White House.
