Paul Cellucci, the former Massachusetts governor and U.S. ambassador to Canada, announced today he has a relatively slowly progressing case of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

"I’ve had symptoms for four years," the 62-year-old Cellucci said in a statement to The Associated Press. Despite some weakness, he said, "I am feeling quite well."

That’s a terrible disease. I hope he doesn’t suffer too much.

That’s a shame. Four years...he’s one of the lucky ones. I cared for my mother in law as this disease took her little by little.

He’s already lasted one year longer than my brother did. Best of luck to him.

I don’t know who this man is, or what he has accomplished or hurt as Gov, but I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

How could he NOT suffer? The emotional impact alone would keep him up nights, not even allowing for the death sentence he was given at the diagnosis.

Think about what you want to post before you do so.
