"Where Do You Stand? Take the Political Spectrum Quiz"

Hosted by imgur.com

By now, you all know that I have a wide range of topics that I find interesting enough to share with you. Usually, the things that I choose come from my searching for other topics. In this case I was looking for information on dogs for a few articles I will post sometime this weekend. In the process, I stumbled upon this graph that took me to a site with a quiz that will help people to understand where they stand on the political scale. So I took the quiz and learned where I stand compared to the average person who took the quiz. It's Hosted by imgur.commy guess that most of the people who have taken this quiz are much, much more liberal then I am. I say so because most of the evidence shows that Americans are a lot more conservative than this site's average says. The problem is that the site can only get an average from those who actually respond to their quiz.

Now, those of you who follow my postings most likely already know where you stand on the political or social scale. However, have you ever really taken a test like this to see where you stand? Sadly, it's such tests as this one that have a limited amount of input, along with surveys by the MSM, that most political pundits use when they report that a majority of Americans are either moderate or liberal. Thus they claim that the real power and influence is somewhere in the middle with the Independent voter. It's my firm belief that if American voters took a quiz like this one, they would be surprised to find that they fall somewhere on the right side of the political scale. Even those who normally vote for a leftist Democrat would be shocked to learn that they actually have more in common with a conservative Republican than they do with the Democrat or liberal Republican politician many of them vote for.

It really should not shock anyone though. All you have to do is listen to what Democrats say when they are running for election. They are all conservatives, until they actually get elected and start to govern. Then they are anything but a conservative, and the MSM does all they can to give them cover by keeping the masses preoccupied with what Lindsey Lohan, Brad Pitt, or Mel Gibson are doing. If they told the truth about what they believed when they were running for office, you and I know very well that they would never get elected.

The Democrats know that the vast majority of Americans are more conservative than the Democrats are. That's why Democrats and the MSM consistently lie to you during their campaigns about being conservative. Go ahead and take the Political Spectrum Quiz to see where you stand. For those who normally vote for Democrats, maybe next time you will be more informed and then vote accordingly.

The graphs below were generated by the site for me after I took the quiz. I am actually quite surprised that I rated so far to the left on the scale. It turns out I am a far-right moderate moderate social authoritarian. And I thought I was to the right of Attila. If I try real hard though, I am sure I can move a little more to the right. After all, I wouldn't want to disappoint the leftist in my town of Chico California who are convinced that I have been transported into the future from the Dark Ages.

The quiz is flawed. One question (i now forget which) should be two separate questions; also, it asked whether offensive art should be suppressed, but not whether it should be taxpayer-subsidized. (My response to both would be “no”.)

another flawed question : “49. When corporate interests become too powerful, the state should take action to ensure the public interest is served.”

It assumes that the state stepping in will serve the public interest rather than making those corporate interests even more powerful.

10. Sometimes war is necessary, even if it means you strike first.

14. If our leader meets with our enemies, it makes us appear weak.

15. We must use our military from time to time to protect our supply of oil, to avoid a national crisis.

30. It does not make sense to understand the motivations of terrorists because they are self-evidently evil.

33. It is wrong to question a leader in wartime.

36. Toppling enemy regimes to spread democracy will make the world a safer place.

44. It is not our place to condemn other cultures as backwards or barbaric.

45. When one group is slaughtering another group somewhere in the world, we have a responsibility to intervene.

Some of these are so laughably vague as to be almost impossible to answer. For example, private citizens should question their leaders all the times. However, the Speaker of the House shouldn't go to a country that sponsors terrorism and bash the President's foreign policy (Nancy in Syria).

I started to take the “test” and found the questions to be written in a way that grossly distorts the issues in question. It’s far too simplistic to be of any value.

It assumes that the state stepping in will serve the public interest rather than making those corporate interests even more powerful.

It's also vague because power itself is meaningless. How is the corporation using that power? I don't mind a corporation having a lot of power if it is not used to the detriment of the public interest. Monopolies aren't illegal, abuse of monopoly power is.

Then there's also the issue of the definition of power. Economic power? Powerful because they're big and rich and everybody buys their poducts? Or are they considered powerful because they bought off three-quarters of Congress? I do have a problem with the latter.

I didn’t like this quiz. It scored me as right, social moderate. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am FAR from being a social moderate. I think this was a result of poorly worded questions and poor assumptions about the responses by the scorer.

For example, one of the questions was something akin to “Blasphemous or offensive art should be suppressed.” Well, suppressed by whom? I don’t think that’s the government’s role, but I do think galleries, proprietors, artists and patrons should. Of course, they don’t...so we get the likes of Roger Maplethorpe. I have a bigger issue with government funding of such artwork, but that was not the question.

Very frustrating.

Yeah,,, the question about should the President talk to our enemies? I answered yeah, but didn’t give it the highest priority. If the Prez is reading our enemy leaders the riot act, that’s okay with me.
Can’t figure out how to post the graph, but here are my results. Fairly close to One Vike.
Right Social Moderate
Right—5.62
Authoritarian—0.77
Foreign Policy—7.44

The worst part is most of these questions appear to address specific news items with specific players involved. Even if not consciously, the reader will identify these questions with those events and shape their answers at along the circumstances or their loyalty or hatred for the people involved.

10, 15, 33 and 36 are obviously about Bush and Iraq. Now that Obama is prez, many libs would likely say “yes” for 33 (wrong to question a leader in wartime), where they would have voted “no” under Bush. There’s also the issue of questioning your leaders (IHMO a responsibility of every citizen) and trying to sabotage the war. I questioned Bush over Iraq and Afghanistan, but I did it in a rational, constructive manner.

14 is about Obama talking about meeting Ahmanutjob. Libs would say it wouldn’t make us look weak because they love Obama. But I think it would make us look weak since he’d probably bow submissively (there’s a lot of precedent for that). But Bush would go as a superior, so I would have answered “no” with him in office.
