Report: U.S. House of Representatives Postpones All Legislative Business Next Week
Saturday, January 8, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/08/2011 5:17:23 PM PST by kristinn

Nothing online yet. Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, just before the news conference started, read a statement from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that the House of Representatives was postponing all legislative business next week.

A new schedule will be announced on Sunday. Presumably, the vote to repeal Obamacare will be put off from the planned January 12 date.

The postponement of House business is out of respect for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her family.

Understandable, but illogical. If Giffords wasn't shot would they still postpone the nation's business? Why not postpone it each time one of our soldiers gets killed? Or just a regular Joe who dies of old age?

Will this encourage other nuts to attempt assassinations, in order to postpone Congress activities even more? Leftists hate that the GOP has taken over the House! We need business as usual as much as possible, and don’t let very bad people and very crazy people win.

I originally thought this was absurd as well, but honestly it sounds like some security issues.

Geez out.... Glad she’s ousted!

She was a total anomaly in a district that had been Republican for 70 years. She won because,

a)Obama fever

b)Secretary of State Brunner was an ACORN operative

c)Manipulated three recounts to "win" by less than 1200 votes out of 400,000 cast.

She then proceeded to vote 100% with Pelosi. Even some Democrats were furious at that point. In 2010, she had her rear end handed to her. She blamed her loss on the "racist" Tea Party.

Good grief. It’s like they were waiting for some excuse.

Unfortunately I'm afraid they WERE looking for an excuse...shutting down for a week gives them plenty of time to find "evidence" that the "right wing" conservatives on the radio, TV, and Internet "caused" this to happen. It gives them plenty of time to write and jam thru new legislation to attempt to limit free speech and/or get conservatives off the air. I hope I'm just paranoid...guess we will see.

“Wounded?” Someone gets shot point blank in the head and you dismiss it casually like she had a knee rash. Rep. Giffords could very easily die.

and the other 300 million citizens of this country should all weep and mourn ??? do the co-workers of the DEAD people get a week off with pay too ???

I know enough about agonizing over the well-being of a family member to identify with Giffords - and what her family must be going through. Her children could lose their mother. She is in critical condition. You don’t seem to show much respect for the state she is in.

i dont know her or her family, but again, how does putting off the business of the other 300 million benefit her or her family ???

The affairs of this world can wait a week.

no, the affairs of this country arent dependent on one congresscritter, and the damage done in the past few years will take generations to repair, if its even possible...there is NO time to mourn a commie-wannabe...

She doesn't have her own children and fairly recently married the astronaut. So they are her (fairly) new step-children.

That she then used as a political ploy to act like she was married to an active combat person. They were also busted for using the NASA jet for date nights. Kelly was reprimanded (mildly) for that waste and violation.

They also live in separate states, or, as rumored, Giffords no longer actually lived here but in TX (another violation, ethical at the least).

I'm trying not to speak badly today, but this revisionist stuff is really getting to me.

Good point. She is in critical condition but if reports can be believed thankfully doesn’t seem close to death.

TUCSON — U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords reportedly is awake and talking to her family after being shot in the head in a shooting spree that killed 6 people and wounded 13.

I’m not sure of the total count here, but Giffords barely won with 4K of the votes. Kelly actually won election day (with 54 or 56% of the votes, I forget), but because Giffords had refused to debate until after the early ballot deadline, those people bought into her commercials (with full-fledged lies about Kelly).

There are many other reasons... including how of course we evil horrible white racist Christian OLD tea partiers were so mean to her and made her cry at the townhalls she finally held.

I don’t mind him showing emotion, I just wish he would do it in private and maybe not SO often. It makes it less powerful and it’s not a good image to project as a top leader. And as a man.

Men cry publicly when a massive tragedy (usually personal, sometimes national) has occurred. Not at any little thing. Women cry for anything and everything. That’s how it is. Ask women what response they’d rather see. Honest women want moved but stoic (ie rugged man who is touched but not blubbering and weepy - like they would get).

"Something bad is going to come out of the aftermath of what happened today, and it's going to land on OUR heads."

Remember the "Brady Bill" after Reagan was shot and the rush to get it passed and the fact that we used to call it "Teddy Care" to get Obamacare passed?

Democrats had absolutely NO compunction about turning that MN rep's (Paul Wellstone)death into a whole political rally!!!

They're going to use this to pressure the Teaparty and Republicans into memorializing this obscene healthcare law by putting her name on it and passing a resolution to give Obama complete cover for his sin of signing the damned thing!!!

They NEVER miss an opportunity, no matter how obscene or dishonest to turn even tradegies into either political cover (like Clinton with the OKC bombing) or political advantage like the things I've cited above.

The sheepish Republicans try to play the kinder, gentler card while the media come right out of the gate shouting the foulest of illegitimate accusations about Tea Party members and conservative talk radio.

It's got to be stopped or we're just destined to let the forces of darkness win without a righteous fight, showing righteous indignation!!!

Yes, of course I'm in total sympathy with those who were unmercifully killed in cold blood and gravely injured, but the course of history should not be diverted due to their self-righteous billious bellering of belicose baseless charges against Palin, The Tea Party and Conservative Republicans!!!

not only the revisionist stuff, but the 'play nice' attitude in general...

while i wont advocate violence to public officials today, i also wont lose any sleep for a person who worked to enslave my children and grandchildren under a crushing debt and loss of FReedom...

the fact that the shooter evidently thought she wasnt quite radical enuff for his taste only shows me the direction that the rest of the plantation is striving towards...

commies have a looooong history of 'purging' their cronies to CYA, as well as slaughtering all those who resist...

since i will resist the progressive agenda, they have in effect, declared war on myself and the Republic with every vote, and by definition are my mortal enemies...

I will NOT shed a tear or miss any sleep over this...

only the Lord knows the heart, i must judge by the 'fruit'...and from what Ive seen of the voting record, good riddance...

I just cannot believe this. This country is not being run by strong adults.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree totally with your post. This is a RINO moment and it is a litnus test of the 112th Congress, which reveals that that we have a cadre of weak kneed, bleeding hearts running congress. They cleave to the bleeding heart view that all must weep and mourn this tragedy by bringing Congress to a halt, instead of resisting the effects of ONE LEFTIST NUT JOB, who can now claim that he brought Congress to a halt. THIS ENCOURAGES ALL THE OTHER NUT JOBS OUT THERE WHO WANT TO EFECT THE LAWMAKERS OF A SUPPOSEDLY FREE NATION.

Our freedom has not been secured, instead Congress SURRENDERS to a LEFTIST NUT JOB whose only claim to power is the ability to pull a pistol trigger 16 times in half a minute or so.

THIS BRINGS CONGRESS TO ITS KNEES? SHAME!!!!!!!!!

I mourn those who have been injured or have died in this tragedy, BUT I mourn also for our nation and our former strength, now unsecured and lost in the caterwauling of politicians who should and do know much better.

SHAME! SHAME ! SHAME!

We are now governed entorely my emotion and political correctness, not by the law of of our nation. Such are the wages of liberal fascism.

These RINO B_STARDS need to buck up.

With all due respect, isn’t this a little OTT? Just imagine if the military shut down a week for every wounded soldier.

I’m not being hard nosed, but, I can’t understand this decision.

They (the pols in Washington) are scared now.

I mean, they were all scared before, but now they're really scared!

This is being done for security purposes, and no other reason, no matter what kind of packaging they try and put on it.

They're scared. They don't trust us. And complicating the scenario we have leftist firebombers in the press and elsewhere ginning up the base, calling for blood. Blaming their ideological opponents for that which a member of their own has perpetrated, in true Alinsky fashion.

Given what's going down, and how people are freaking and reacting without being informed and without even thinking, we are apparently entering a crisis of national proportions, pushed by ideological miscreants on the left who are (1)determined not to let the Right have any sort of victory, electoral or otherwise; and (2)determined to see through to the end the success of their own revolution, which they feel is within their grasp and is ticking down to the final end game.

This whole episode is a bit surprising to me, in that given what's happened and what's probably going to follow, we are probably a lot closer to a civil war than was previously thought. Make no mistake - I'm not calling for this; indeed, I'd view it as a wholesale catastrophe for the nation. But that's simply how I see it.

This event seemingly will propel us closer, faster, and the awful rhetoric emanating from the Left gives me great pause in that they not only seem to know this will fan the flames, but actually relish the direction in which they are attempting to push the national dialog.

This will have no good end, and if you're in the segment of society that has feared this outcome, I hope your preperations for the worst are close to completion.

Like I say, apparently we don't have much time left.

CA....

That's what I was alluding to...the RINOS are going to assist the 'Rats in going after guns. I predict a very busy week ahead for licensed firearms dealers.
