Someone want to explain to me again why the NRA should never support pro-gun Democrats and always support Republicans?

Well Congressman King....that will certainly stop the whack-jobs from carrying a gun!

Good job!

My new congressman meets with lots of people who are CHL holders. I think he and everyone around him would be less safe if this law were to pass.

Maybe if they stopped passing laws people don’t want and cramming them down people’s throat they wouldn’t have to worry about their safety.

Do the rest of us peons not deserve the same protection as them (not that I want their help)? Somehow they think they are special. They treat their constiuents with contempt and expect us to shut our mouths and take it. They know best! /s

Logic tells me that you could ban guns 10 miles from congressmen or specific events, and it wouldn’t stop a deranged lunatic hell-bent on shooting someone. That’s like the protection orders issued against stalkers or abusers in relationships. If they’ve determined in their minds they’re going to follow through on their criminal acts/intent to stalk, injure or kill their victims, there’s no restraining order on earth that’s going to stop them.

If Rep. King truly feels this way, he should lock himself in an interior bathroom and stay there until his term expires. One of his Long Island constituents should send him a copy of one of John Lott's valuable and perceptive books on gun control for him to read while he's holed up in his porcelain euphemism.

Laws like the one he proposes will not inconvenience or deter any potential assassins.

This is transcends normal stupidity, and soars into the lofty heights of meta-stupid.

How in the world could you avoid breaking this law, as a lawful gun owner? What if the politician drove past you? Went to the same restaurant? Walked towards you?

And how would it deter someone that was trying to kill a politician? Either they are crazy or they’re okay with the risk of getting caught or killed. What’s another slap on the wrist going to do when you’re looking at a murder of a government official charge?

This is exactly the opposite of what is needed.

Had someone at the event on Saturday been armed, the shooter could have been promptly dispatched, saving lives.

IIRC, there are laws against shooting people, but that didn’t deter Loughner.

Laws are only observed by law abiding people.

If someone is intent on doing harm to another, such as a politician, King’s law is probably not going to deter the individual.

Yes if we outlaw guns within 1000 feet of lawmakers then only outlaws will have guns within 1000 feet of lawmakers.

Maybe we should make it illegal to shoot people.

King has some good points on other issues, but this isn’t one of them. He, like other anti-gun types fail to understand that the insane DON’T ABIDE BY THE RULES!!

Had the perpetrator not been tackled and disarmed the packers present at the event Saturday would have been barred from taking him down and stopping his carnage.

Another attempt to solve a symptom instead of a problem.

So, next time some loonytoon goes after a lawmaker there won’t be anyone carrying to save anyone.

Wow! That’ll sure stop it. The Criminals will start using bombs, or will just do what they do with less worry. Legal conceal carry permits will not be able to stop future incidents like this either.

By the way wasn't it a Conceal-Carry citizen who stopped the shooter?

This RINO needs to go to the glue factory. (Is that legal to say? DAMNED STRAIGHT it is!)

I may have my distances wrong- but wouldn’t this have stopped Oswald dead in his tracks?

I’m not sure about the grassy knoll shot, though, wasn’t that over 1000’?

If only we had had this law in place, Jack Kennedy would have lived a much longer life.

And Reagan, and Ford, though Linnette Fromme had not chambered a round.
