WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration Friday said it will allow for more U.S. travel to Cuba, making it easier for schools, churches and cultural groups to visit the island. A senior Obama official told The Miami Herald the much-expected move to expand cultural, religious and educational travel to Cuba is part of the administration's continuing ``effort to support the Cuban people's desire to freely determine their own future. President Barack Obama is also restoring the amount of money ($2,000) that can be sent to nonfamily members to the level they were at during part of the Clinton and Bush administrations.

There’s nothing to be done now than to look to the future. Seriously. What’s to be gained anymore by an embargo of Cuba?

Votes in Florida is about it...

Great, now the US has just lost massive face to the Castro regime. The Chinese must be in shock since they have not given way to Tibet for about as long; this is like a Chinese president deciding to contact the Dalai Lama for negotiations on Tibetan independence.

The headline should read: Obama to ease travel restrictions to Cuba, allow more U.S. cash to fund Castro regime.

We know where all this new money will go, and so does the Obamanation. I can’t wait until 2012.

If John McCain can go to Vietnam and tell us we must forgive the past and develop relations with Vietnam, why not the same thing for Cuba? Just wondering.

LOL. Yeah. Just make sure you make the check out to Fidel Castro. He'll see that it gets to the intended recipient.

I would support complete normalization with Cuber.. It would be the quickest way to full democracy and freedom for the people of that country.

Our embargo with Cuba has to be the only thing left keeping the Cuban communists on life support. Lift all restrictions, and the tidal wave of US dollars from across the straits will simply swamp the system. Folks will be so busy chasing all the money pouring in they won't have time to remember they are supposed to be Communists, and that will go for most of the enforcers there as well.

This situation hasn't made sense since the fall of the Berlin wall

No sarcasm intended - This is Obama's idea of Stimulus money for Cuba. The Cuban economy is in dire condition and US dollars will be a massive boost. See: Castro in State of Confusion

Aside from economic and/or political considerations, and the
fact that I disagree with Obama almost all of the time, I think it is time we allowed freer travel to Cuba. Who knows
it will probably hasten their acceptance of Democracy with all of it’s warts and baggage.

Are you nuts??? All this will do is reinforce the treasury of the Cuban Communist Party.

Who knows it will probably hasten their acceptance of Democracy with all of it’s warts and baggage.
