Rick Warren hosts 'cult' celebrity docs Features promoters of Eastern mysticism, universalism

When megachurch pastor Rick Warren decided he needed to take his health seriously, he responded in typically ambitious fashion, launching a year-long health program for his church, "The Daniel Plan," written with the help of three celebrity doctors who will appear at a kickoff seminar today.

But critics point out the physicians who crafted the program apparently don't share the church's professed evangelical beliefs, espousing instead various forms of Eastern mysticism and the tenets of a Christian cult, Swedenborgism.

Vowing to lose 90 pounds, Warren said he placed himself under the care of Drs. Mehmet Oz, Daniel Amen and Mark Hyman last fall and worked with each to develop "The Daniel Plan."

Oz, host of the Emmy-winning "Dr. Oz Show" and professor of surgery at Columbia University, says he is inspired by Emanuel Swedenborg, an 18th century cult founder who taught that all religions lead to God and denied orthodox Christian beliefs such at the atonement of Christ for sin, the trinity and the deity of the Holy Spirit.

Best-selling author Amen, a professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Irvine, teaches Eastern religious meditation and the New Age energy-based practice of Reiki.

Yep if they were actually preaching the gospel, they would be OPPOSED by the world; not ‘embraced’ by them..in all fairness I do not preach (or live the gospel) like I should so I am a hypocrite.

Once preachers go down the road of pop religion, there is no end to their apostasy.

“Hyman, a four-time New York Times best-selling author, promotes mystical meditation based on Buddhist principles. “
It’s a shame the author didn’t do some homework about the doctors.
I’m currently reading a book by Dr. Hyman about curing your brain with nutrition. He covers Alzheimers, dementia and autism.
This book should be read by everyone, basically he says most health problems can be cured thru nutrition and we are being poisoned by the US Gov’t food guidelines. Gee how can anyone argue with that?

Saddle back is SUPPOSED to be a church not a hospital

Daniel 1:15 ESV At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food.

Swedenborgism?

I had lots of images flash through my head but none of them were appropriate for church.

I am not surprised at all, since it is Rick Warren.

So, I’m taking that as a no to my question? You’ve never personally attended Saddleback?

I am amazed at the number of “Christians” that think he is wonderful......

I'm amazed at the number of Christians who despise him for no justifiable reason.

I work for a Mormon and have several Hindus who work for me. My peers range from evangelical Christians and observant Jews to atheists. A former colleague wore only green, dyed his hair green, and claimed to be a Druid. Despite the differing theologies, we all manage to work together and produce an award-winning product.

It's baffling to me how WND can claim with a straight fact that, because the three doctors Warren chose aren't Christian, he must be bringing non-Christian ideas into the church. If I need a good doctor, accountant, or lawyer, I don't care what their religious beliefs are as long as they are honest and decent people.

Has it ever crossed anyone's mind here that perhaps the three doctors might come to know Jesus Christ after working with Warren? God loves those three men and I would rather see them saved than force Warren to impose some sort of religious test on his doctors.

I have a bad feeling that when this fellow gets “important” enough he may openly change religions....
I have a bad feeling that you have an overactive imagination.

If what I read is to believed, he is into UNESCO. For a man of God to associate with the UN, that is enough reason for me to not attend services in a church he is Pastor of....so no.

It is. I might have phrased a few of the questions differently, but it’s thought provoking. All I know is I’m glad I didn’t score as Rick Warren.
