Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre filed his retirement papers on Monday, ending one of the National Football League's most fabled careers.
Here are some facts about Favre and his career:
Born - October 10, 1969 in Gulfport, Mississippi.
1991 - Atlanta Falcons make Favre their second-round pick, number 33 overall, in NFL Draft out of Southern Mississippi.
1992 - Traded to Green Bay for a first-round draft pick.
1992 - Replaces injured quarterback Don Majkowski (ankle) in Game Three, goes on to post 8-5 record and claim starting job he will not relinquish for 16 seasons. Is named to his first NFC Pro Bowl squad.
1995 - Selected to start at quarterback in Pro Bowl. Named NFL's Most Valuable Player.
1996 - Culminates season by leading Packers to 35-21 victory over New England Patriots in Super Bowl to give Green Bay its first NFL title in 29 years.
1997 - Named league MVP for the third year in a row; leads Green Bay back to Super Bowl but ends up on losing side in a 31-24 loss to Denver.
2003 - Plays in all 16 games despite fracturing the thumb on his throwing hand in the team's seventh game of the season that required him to wear a protective splint the rest of the year. Selected to his eighth Pro Bowl after leading Packers to their ninth playoff appearance in his 12 years.
2004 - Extends his NFL-record streak of consecutive post-season games with a touchdown pass to 16 in 2004 season NFC wild card game against Minnesota.
2006 - Becomes the NFL's all-time leader in pass completions and first to reach 5,000 completions.
2007 - Sets NFL records for most career wins as a starting quarterback (160), most passing yards (61,655), most touchdown passes (442) and interceptions (288).

GMTA - was thinking the same thing when he announced. He had it made when he first announced a few years back He could have retired in ‘glory’ but no, his ultra ego got the better of him. True, he did have some good moments.
He really blew it in that NFC title game against New Orleans at the end of the 2009 season. Had he just held onto the ball and taken a knee, they’d have kicked what would have been the game winning field goal. A bit more of a craftsman’s attitude and a bit less of a gunslinger’s attitude, and he’d have seen another Super Bowl.
Won’t believe it until it is a done deal.
I bet he becomes a coach...............
Aaron Rodgers is such a beast right now that it’s almost as if Brett Favre never played for the Packers.

16 years. Wow. he was a '4-term President on the gridiron' and played to much acclaim. Not bad for a kid out of Mississippi.. He could play.

Favre has a 1 - 1 record in the SuperBowl.
Rodgers is 0 - 0 to date but has a good chance to match that record and beyond .. if he doesn’t get his bell rung again.. and again.

I don't know... he doesn't seem like the coach type to me. He was never one to play the role of the older wise player to a younger quarterback. I always had the feeling that if he couldn't start, then that was it... he was outta there.
But, maybe if coaching is his job, he'll go at it with the same sense of desire that kept him on the playing field.
The NFL ought to have a “3 Retirements” rule... file thrice - you’re out for good. :)
There was only one category where I saw he didn’t quite “measure” up.
...ironically, he also tarnished his reputation by throwing an ill-advised pass at Jenn Sterger, late in his career, into heavy New York media coverage....of course it was picked off by the media, humiliating Farve and breaking the heart of his wife of many years. Apparently he was a gunslinger off the field too.
Oh, great! Now he can get the Band back together and book the cities for their 34th Reunion World Concert tour!
Oh, wait a minute. I thought you were talking about Brett Favre, the interim drummer for The Who.

I laughed when a guy on the NFL Channel said he won’t believe it until Favre has been retired for two CONSECUTIVE years.
