I'm placing this in breaking news, because there have been several breaking news complaint threads recently. Guess there are a lot of people not understanding the facts about FR, or what we stand for, where we're going, etc.
First of all, who reads FR and how many accounts do we have? I honestly have no idea and the exact number does not concern me. We currently have over 369,000 registered accounts on FR, but as someone pointed out yesterday, not all of them are active and I have no idea how many are active.
Many years ago we had less than 30,000 accounts registered. Then we hit a hundred thousand, a hundred fifty thousand, then two hundred thousand and three or four years ago we approached and went over 300,000. Every few years as we hit a major milestone in registered accounts, I updated our home page with the current number of accounts on FR. I'll probably do it again after we go over 400,000, then 500,000, etc, and maybe I won't. The number of registered accounts doesn't really mean much. And our growth in the last few years has tapered off anyway for various reasons.
Who actually reads FR? Again, we have no idea, but there are hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of readers. All kinds of people read FR. News hounds, liberals, conservatives, politicians, talk show hosts, religious types, atheists, you and me brother and everyone in between. We serve over 1,000,000 pageviews per day.
So why has our growth tapered off? Well, probably the primary reason is we've narrowed our point of view lately as we've moved away from just talking about the issues and have actually started becoming constitutional activists.
The time for talking is over. Now we need to walk the walk. Our focus has become closer to working on our primary goal which is a return to constitutionally limited government and a full restoration of our God-given unalienable rights.
We can't do that by being big tent, all things to all people, non-principled, two-talking politicians. If we are truly interested in advancing our traditional conservative pro-God, pro-family, pro-life, pro-country, pro-liberty principles and positions then we must reject the politicians and people supporting the other way.
As an organization, we cannot be both for and against homosexuality, abortion, big government, border and national security, etc. I don't know about others, but if we must choose, I choose to be on the right side of each and every issue. Why should FR use its limited resources to allow liberals, homosexualists, abortionists, big spenders, big taxers, big government solutions advocates, gun grabbers, pacifists, isolationists, environmentalists, open-borders lobbyists, etc, ply their trade on FR? Well, more and more lately, we don't. And, apparently, that has pissed off a lot of big tent, true blue RINO types and the herd is stampeding. Let them go.
We who share our common traditional conservative principles, values and goals will be better off in the long run. We need to build on our strengths and attract more traditional conservatives to our viewpoints than to water down and weaken our own. It just doesn't make sense to me to support politicians like Giuliani, Romney, Gingrich, et al, who have RINO/liberal track records. It doesn't make sense to allow abortionists, homosexualists, gun-grabbers, big-government solutionists, etc, to have free rein on FR to target and lambast us daily with their repugnant bile. Let them go.
FR will continue on the traditional God, family, country, life and liberty path. If it means fewer accounts or less growth, so be it. If it means we receive fewer in donations, so be it. We will adapt, improvise and overcome and I believe prosper (God willing) in the long run. And, hopefully, someday we can say that we helped restore our beloved republic and our Liberty!
Confirmed, I am in for the conservative agenda.
And with this, it’s time to read to my kids, say our prayers and go to bed.
God Bless and thank you!
We each have about 150,000 alternate IDs.
The rest of you are an illusion, or statistical noise.
Except for Laz. He's a glitch in the Matrix.
I s’pose you might be a volunteer, I’ll go that far.
Say it again, Jim! This site is a haven of sanity for conservatives. Many thanks for having us.
Ping for a great read to the rest of you:)
Thank you, kind Sir.
Some people are born followers, and have not the slightest idea what they believe. They’re known as “useful idiots.”
>> “Information is the ultimate weapon. Informed people can take action; uninformed people cannot.” <<
That is the essence of the usefulness of FR.
You must be the last “antibirther” left!
Now even the new Gov of Hawaii has jumped over to the birther side.
so we shouldnt compromise to get the 'better than' rin-o-p candidate in an effort to not make the 'good be the enemy of the perfect'...??? or some such nonesense ???
to all wishy washy litrolls and rino, dont let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya !!!
I feel like I owe you some sort of stamina award...
I guess being the only person to have read my post will have to suffice. Sorry.
Hell yeah, Jim!
I hadn’t heard or read about that, but I recall pings to a thread or threads with that title. I would be swamped were I to keep abreast of all the new birther info. I know we’re entitled to see the Marxist’s long form BC and I also believe that Bill Ayres wrote the Marxist’s fictional *autobiography* for him. Too much is unknown about the Marxist in Chief and the corrupt news media are largely responsible for his election. 2012 election is the one that counts. We have to save our Republic.
Yes indeed I read thru all these posts....When Jim comes on line and makes a speech as that I want to hear what people are saying about it. It was all a good read....nice to have a good laugh toward the end too...and that’s more than sufficient for me..Thanks good one!
Anything more from Star today? Thoughts of makes the heart droop so much even a photo of Be Be wouldn’t have cheered me up last night!...... I’ll have to share that thought with her when she gets back.
No, I didn’t. I don’t anticipate hearing from her for at least another couple of days. Thanks very much for asking.
Robinson, you post these opinion pieces all the time. You walk around like you own the place.
Did the owner of the site Jim Thompson give you permission to post this? WWJTD. What would Jim Thompson do?
He’d give in to Keith Olbermann and his 7 viewers who insulted him and turn FR into a moderate or liberal lovefest.
Well said, JimRob! Let’s show’em how conservatism is done.
What brought me to this site, shortly after you started it, and long before you started requiring people to create accounts and log-in prior to posting, was your original mission statement.
Over the years since, we've seen a lot of changes, and actually DONE things to bring about those changes. I recall the "March for Justice" which, according to Bob Barr, was responsible for ensuring that the Bent One was impeached. The Veterans March at the start of the "March for Justice" was so moving that C-SPAN cut away from it and went elsewhere till we were done. Marching with you carrying the Stars and Stripes at the head of the veterans group was a great honor for me. The "March for Justice" was started and coordinated on this very site. I also recall all the spin-off organizations and websites that were spawned here, as CONSERVATIVES, using the knowledge gained here, went on to become activists in their own right.
It has been an amazing run, Jim. And I for one appreciate the site and your friendship over the years. And I'm hoping for years more, while we excise the cancer of socialism and statism that is destroying our nation.
As a side note: you still need to come for a visit. We really need to go fishing one day soon. There are fish in the river that really need to be in my smoker! :)
Stay safe, my FRiend.
America! It's about
I actually have this. Carry it proudly everywhere I go. Had them done at my own expense...along with other stuff in posts to follow. Anyone can do this!!!
Your name will go down in “Great Conservatives in American History”
As Rush says, “there is no book on Great Moderates in American History”
And all the Great Liberals in American History were foreign heads of states, who we were forced to defeat thru military action.
Thanks for helping me continue to feed my FR addiction!!!
Jim, you’ve help educate me for 12-13 years. I know a good site when I see one. Thanks Jim for everything.
Amen to that!
Pretty new FR guy here: Bible-believing literalist, son of soldiers who fought for the USA.
This is the greatest country on the earth, and the last bastion of freedom and hope.
Voted for Reagan in my first election; only deviated once to vote for Ross Perot the first time he ran.
Hooked into Drudge back during Lewinsky, never stumbled across Free Republic until the natural-born question arose in ‘08 before the election.
Like everyone else, I got beat on a little when I showed up here but God bless you for this forum; you have my support!
BTW, the only candidate I have seen in 30 years worthy of the Reagan Mantle is Sarah Palin.
You rock! That’s fabulous and your post is, too!
apparently, that has pissed off a lot of big tent, true blue RINO types and the herd is stampeding. Let them go.
***but, but, but I’m a big tent republican
Im a big tent republican.
Heres an analogy to work with. Take a small box and fill it with some rocks. Then add some rice, filling it to the top. Now take all the same stuff, but in a different order. Put in the rice first, then add the rocks. What youll find is that if you put in the big stuff first, the small stuff will fit around it. But if you put in the small stuff first, the big stuff wont have room. The republican tent is the box. The Big issues are the socon issues, to be put in first. The little issues are things that can be accommodated around the bigger stuff. A candidate who tries to focus on the smaller issues first and leave out the bigger issues has no way of getting all of us into the tent. He splits the party. The candidate who gets the big stuff right and as much of the little stuff that will fit, he can fit more into the tent. Were often amazed at how much rice can keep fitting in. Rudy Giuliani flunks some of the big issues, and on some of the little issues it looks to me like anyone elses rice would do just as well. All that remains for us to agree on is which are the bedrock principles and which are not. Why would there be so much invective aimed at rudy from the right? Because there are some bedrock principles that he is leaving out. Bad move. I see rudybot postings all the time saying that they would vote for Hunter, and I see socon postings that say they would not vote for rudy. Thats a BIG indicator of a few bedrock principles that are being left outside the tent in order to let in some rice.
“Let them go.”
Yep. Don’t let the cyberdoor hit you motherboards in the CPU on your way out.
Then you might like this photo of Jim Robinson and friend. :)
Thanks- we’re on to something big, the Spirit is moving!
Souls are more important than votes, but votes are cool, too.
Of course there is a difference IMO between the homosexuals I know (family and friends) who go about their lives versus the homosexuals who flaunt their lifestyle and demand that we accept it and change one of the most basic foundations of human civilization (marriage) to accomidate their lifestyle. The Republicans who want to give up in social issues don’t understand that family structure and economics are LINKED !
I remember the day I met Jim. My son drove me all the way to D.C. for the House Manager’s Rally and dinner. Got to meet a lot of Freepers as well as Congressmen. It was a great event. I was cleaning out a closet just yesterday and cam across one of our poster’s for the event. Remember the one of George Washington with the tear drop? I had collected autographs from all those congressmen, but the one I am most proud of is Jim Robinson, and second is Henry Hyde.
Liberals [and RINOS] consider me “inflexible and unreasonable”.
That always seperates the wheat from the chaff.
Beautiful memory and wasn’t it wonderful to find the poster safely tucked away? WOW. I can relate to your sweet sentiments. I have the pocket size Constitution here in my computer credenza that Jim gave to me and yes, he signed it. It’s my special treasure.
So--God bless the "founding fathers" of this FreeRepublic, and all those who defend and support her!
I know that Jim will read all the comments, and he will truly appreciate yours.
God bless you, dear milagro!

|Woo hoo!! Now over EIGHTY percent!! Thank you all very much!!|
Pleased to be aboard, Sir! Thank you for taking the helm and setting the direction.
it’s good to know that sites like this are about. I’ve given up getting my news from even FOX and talk radio for the most part now as they have all become cowards when it comes to social conservatism.
They run away from the homomafia and live in fear of being called a name by a corrupt MSM.
Conservatism is not just fiscal it is social too and the backbone of this country has always been family, a traditional family. The left knows this and this is why they refer back to rules 25 /26 etc from their rule book.
The media have been infiltrated as has many churches.
Places like this still stand against them and let us hope that all of us will stand together and fight the left back to where we get our country back. Not just talk or debate but get more active like Jim has said.
Yes they have tried all the time and will try to infiltrate this site but a good cleaning out like Jim did got rid of many. They’ll come back I’m sure under a different name pretending to a conservative but will say that two men together were born like that or we have to stop with the social talk as it will not help us. bla bla bla.
Imagine instead of your local rep getting 5 calls about a bill he or she now gets 1,000 calls from us off here a day.
You can bet he or she will take notice. This is what the left does and especially the homomafia thus making it look like a bill is popular when it it not.
Thanks for the ;ping suunshine
