Legislators pairing off for bipartisan seating at Obama speech

Washington (CNN) -- Will Tuesday be "Date Night" in Congress for President Barack Obama's State of the Union address?

Democratic and Republican legislators are pairing off to sit together for the annual speech in a symbolic gesture of bipartisanship, and some of the combinations so far are intriguing.

Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, the epitome of East Coast liberalism, and Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, a symbol of conservative intransigence, are putting aside their differences to cross the political aisle for a night, Schumer said Sunday.

"I think if Coburn and Schumer can sit next to each other, then probably just about everybody can," Schumer told the CBS program "Face the Nation," adding: "It's true it's symbolic, but let's not forget (that) oftentimes in history, symbols influence reality."

They either think we’re stupid...or they don’t mind looking stupid themselves.

Will Republican leadership be limp-wristed enough to get suckered like this for the next two years???

I wonder how Coburn feels about being literally shut out of the legislative process these last two years? Does he believe anything has changed?

These Republicans are enough to gag you.

Who gives a ....?

I’d rather watch flies on a t....er... smelly Obama stuff, than watch this idiotic piece of mental floss read a temeprompter.

And my regard for the dim-bulb-crat congress-critters is even lower.

May they all be forced to live in post civi war II Chicago.

"Democratic and Republican legislators are pairing off to sit together for the annual speech in a symbolic gesture of bipartisanship. . ."

Just WOW! Dumbest thing I've read all week. I wonder if our esteemed "R" contingent will join their democRAT brethren in the obligatory every two minute standing ovation! I might have to actually sit through this one. LOL

A sickening display to say the least. They didn’t even bother doing this after 9/11. Or after Reagan was shot. Or...well, I just can’t recall them doing this.

Again, I’m going to point out this fact: None of this would be happening if we had Michele Bachmman as the Speaker and Jim Demint as the Minority Leader.

This certainly demonstrates that we do not really have a two party system - what we have are just two factions of a single Party of Government.

Republicans are dealing with a crowd to whom appearance and form always trumps substance. Nothing whatsoever is without political meaning to democrats

So whenever there is applause, the image will be that of generalized applause, and can be manipulated in a way that serves obama’s purposes.

Once again, the wily coyote republicans are taken to school by the roadrunning democrats. I suspect we have the old guard republicans to thank for this. It is the petrified mindset of the plaid pants country club set that needs to be forever eliminated.

Being the b**** that I am...I might bring a bright red apple for my seating partner...

No...not for the teacher....Symbolizing that they will fall into a deep, deep sleep for 100 years...which would make a total of 200 years....

If these idiots think the GOP base is supportive of this lunacy they have totally lost it.

I am going to laugh my butt off everytime Obama slams the GOP in his speech and the camera pans the Dems jumping up to applaud with a stupid republican just sitting next to them with their thumb in their ear.

Way to go losers.

I cannot fathom the level of stupidity that would be required for the Republicans to buy off on this self-defeatist act of idiocy. It is shocking, that they could think this a good thing.

As Obama lays out his globalist view of how to take down the United States, people will be standing to clap clear across the body of attendees. There will be no noticeable large body on one side of the room failing to back his play.

My God, has our republic come to this? Yes..., yes it has.

We are living in the last days of Rome. Et tu Bohner?

That is why Lindsay Graham is the stereotypical Republican. A weak, silly person when we need a tiger.
