I have the suspicion that the pianist did this to curry favor with the PRC. Their government is based on patronage, not merit. I have the suspicion that he was ordered to play it.

Well, the guy is a US resident, if rather weird (it’s been reported he’s a transvestite). But family in China could open him up to blackmail. On the other hand that also leaves the pianist as a fall guy should the feces strike the propeller as it probably will once Rush Limbaugh gets hold of this.
