Rahm Fought the Law and the Law Won
The Chicago Daily Observer ^ | January 25, 2011 | Daniel J. Kelley

One of the most useful ruses used by skilled magicians is called misdirection. If the audience can be distracted momentarily, the prestidigitator can engage in some sleight hand maneuvering to make a trick appear real. Emanuel has been doing that for weeks and months until the appellate decision was released. Emanuel and his spin doctors have planted stories about his grumpy tenants and how Rahm the white knight nobly answered the call to serve President Obama as a matter of patriotic duty and chivalry. Rahm stressed how he paid property taxes and owned a building in Chicago without acknowledging that the same is true of many other absentee landlords.

Members of the general public, as a rule, do not spend their idle hours paging through the Illinois Compiled Statutes or reading arcane election law cases, so their confusion about the cause of all of the fuss is understandable. Emanuel’s inexplicable arrogance or stupidity is less understandable. As a former elected official, it never occurred to him to maintain a permanent Chicago residence for political purposes while working in the White House? The list of other politicians who finessed similar residency requirements is a lengthy one. Some of these elected officials were not necessarily the brightest light bulbs either. Many people in the know point to the fact that the outgoing mayor sometimes spends more time in Michigan than he does in Chicago, but he never decided to rent out his townhouse either. Rahm comes off looking less like a graceful male ballerina and more like an inept klutz with two left feet.

The law won, for now. These lawless people keep hitting back over and over, and eventually, they get just the right judge to make the decision they wanted all along.

Don’t start smiling until the Illinois Supreme Court weighs in. Rahm and his friends will take it all the way; he’s raised enough money to do so. In addition, I’m not sure I trust those justices. Just because one judge has integrity doesn’t mean they all have it.

Time means nothing to democRATs. Remember when Torricelli quit in the middle of the race in New Jersey, and the libs in New Jersey changed the law midstream to allow Lautenberg to run in his place?

Laws are easy obstacles for liberals to bypass when it comes to them taking power.

I'm taking the same bet. This is Illinois we are talking about. Not eligible? Not a problem in Illinois if you belong to the right political affiliation.

Anything is possible, but don’t bet the ranch.

Many of the major campaign contributors who donated money to Emanuel are scrambling to hedge their bets today by writing checks to the other candidates.

Emanuel’s money advantage took a huge hit yesterday even if he appeals the decision successfully.

Three of the seven members of the current Illinois Supreme Court are Republicans. One Democratic justice may recuse herself from the case. If the final vote is 3-3, Rahm loses and the appellate ruling will stand.

Rahm has very little margin for error. Additionally, he has to move the litigation forward now while his opponents play defense.

I also believe Rahm wins at the Illinois Supreme Court.

Then the Illinois Legislature passes a law stating that a person serving in Federal Office is considered a resident to be a candidate in any Illinois office.

By doing it this way the Supreme Court decision does not set a precedent.

Are they Scalia type Republicans, or typical northern RINO Republicans? I’m guessing at least one of the 3 “republicans” are RINO republicans? Are they elected or appointed? If appointed, who appointed them?

He didn’t bother to maintain a residence because the Daley klan had a lock on the job. Why bother if you don’t need it? Rahm started scrambling to create the illusion of residency as soon as Daley announced he wasn’t running.

Illinois judges are elected. Supreme Court Justices serve ten year terms and after their initial election are eligible to be re-elected on the retention ballot. Candidates on the retention ballot do not have opponents per se. They simply need to get 60% of the votes affirming their retention, which is usually a slam dunk. As such, these judges are fairly well insulated from political pressure.

It’s because Chicago, like Washington, is run by liberals who believe laws are breakable anytime they wish to break them. Nothing more complicated than that. Remember the Torricelli Gambit? No law shall stand in the way of whatever is expedient for Democrats.

As quite a few posters have already commented...this, after all, IS Illinois; further it is Chicago!

The word "law" means little if anything...and can be bent, manipulated, and/or "spun" given the correct amount of "pressure" applied.

Comrade emanuel will be presented as the "underdog" done wrong by the "unfair" legal system. Money has begun to change hands in Cook County already...in addition to other types of "pressure points" being applied.

Comrade emanuel will be allowed on the ballot by the ISC (as the underdog - per his team of handlers); he'll win the election and become mayor.

Those having received money will smile knowingly and retire back into their dens; those having received the "pressure" on their "points" will wipe their brows of sweat, sigh in resignation...and go on living.

As Linda Elerby always used to say, ". . . and so it goes."

I heard a Chicago firefighter on the radio yesterday, saying overthrowing this will really open a can of worms. Firefighters, police, teachers, are all bound by the residency rule. He said if this is overturned, he plans on renting out his Chicago property and moving his family to the suburbs where his kids will have access to better schools. He said Rahm should have done what other politicians in “public service” in Washington do. They rent a place in DC and their families live here and their kids attend school here.

You are right on the money. Permitting Emanuel to run without an actual physical place of residence would be hugely problematic as many policemen, firefighters, municipal employees and public school teachers are routinely subjected to residency laws.

Rahm’s is a millionaire, but he was too cheap to rent an apartment to be used as a “residence” for political purposes after he rented his property to tenants.

It boggles the mind that he could be so stupid. Of course, it may explain why Obama was so unpopular for the past two years with this stooge calling the shots.

It smells like there’s a major mob war brewing in Chicago.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. Some of Rahm’s “friends” aren’t returning his calls.

Meanwhile, Rahm has appealed.
Money, threats, and embarrassing photos are being exchanged even as we post.
Rahm will be the next mayor of Chicago.

TALK ABOUT BAD TIMING (/SNIX) Rahm just announced he "raised" more than $10.5M in just 3 months....he's THAT perfect. Rahm also unveiled a lengthy, star-studded donor roll ..........

One of Emanuel's brothers is the Plus-Perfect Hollywood super-agent and uber-liberal activist, Ari Emanuel. Ari is "kindly" called aggressive and temperamental -- the inspiration for Jeremy Piven's wildly popular "Entourage" character, Ari Gold. Ari took over Creative Artists Agency to achieve H'wood agency supremacy----- CAA is an unbelievable brand he got for nothing, and he crushed the internal competition in days....he's THAT perfect.

With connections like that, Rahm "raised" $100,000 from Hollywood mogul David Geffen, $75,000 from film director Steven Spielberg.....

=======================================

SURPRISE Emanuel's brother Dr Zeke is also PERFECT. Rahm tapped Dr. Ezekiel as WH health care policy advisor (thank God Rahm will "help" Ezekiel handle O'Care, and Medicare/Aid billions)

Chicago Sun Times | Feb. 14th | Lynn Sweet
FR Posted 02/15/2009 by william1970

Rahm's brother, Dr. Emanuel, has received numerous awards....election to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Science and the Association of American Physicians. Hippocrates Magazine selected him as Doctor of the Year in Ethics.....the AMA-Burroughs Welcome Leadership Award, the Public Service Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the John Mendelsohn Award from the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a Fulbright Scholarship (which he declined). Dr. Emanuel served on President Clinton’s Health Care Task Force, the National Bioethics Advisory Commission (NBAC), and on the bioethics panel of the Pan-American Healthcare Organization. Dr. Emanuel has been a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, UCLA, the Brin Professor at Johns Hopkins Medical School, and the Kovitz Professor at Stanford Medical School.

Was Dr Zeke spit-shining his penny loafers when the subect of O'Care death panels surfaced?

======================================

ANALYSIS So bogus. I feel like heaving.

Rahm Emanuel "says" he raised more than $10.5M in 3 months, and unveiled a lengthy, star-studded donor roll (gag) ..........

The State BoE and the FEC should rigorously scrutinize Rahm's filings. Better yet, the FBI should interrogate all of the names listed as donors. They will find very few of these people actually donated. The names are covers for Rahm transferring millions of his ill-gotten gains, looted while he was (gag) in the US govt.

How do I know?

(1) As WH COS, Rahm was involved in the biggest con of the decade (more below). (2) As a Clinton appointee, Rahm looted Fannie Mae----the centerpiece of the criminal organization called the Dem party. Obama defied the law and covered up the looting by refusing to release F/M financial documents to the media under FOIA. (3) As a (gag) Congressman, conniving Rahm ran a "Foundation" from his Chicago home ------ that allowed him to live tax-free.

This guy knows how to make money disappear faster than a cream puff at a Weigh Watcher weigh-in. His activities on Wall Street also need scrutiny. Supposedly, in just two years, he made off with $16M from 2-3 deals.

============================================

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the United States Treasury (cough) rescued AIG with a taxpayer backstop totaling $180 billion.

COMMENT The US Treasury's $180 billion rescue is "interesting" b/c then-COS Rahm Emanuel directed Treasury's activities.

So where did that $180 billion go? "Professor" Ohaha knows nothing about high finance----but Rahm toiled on Wall Street before becoming a (gag)public servant (4 term Congressman, Clinton henchman, Fannie Mae looter).

====================================

HOW DID GANGSTER GOVERNMENT SCAM $180 BILLION? PROBABLY LIKE THIS (the Madoff MO): The trustee ID'ing Madoff's assets, found Madoff created a labyrinth of interrelated international funds, institutions and financial entities of unparalleled complexity and breadth......with assets and businesses in multiple places offshore that hid government fraud, thievery, money launderering, tax evasion........ all out of sight of taxpayers, the IRS, SEC, FEC and US banking laws.

BTW, stolen money is taxable.

At least half a dozen people in the Ohaha admin are going to walk away from “Public Service“ living like the Sultan of Brunei......and we can name them all without even breaking a sweat.

One of the hosts on the talk radio program I heard also was in disbelief that Rahm could have gotten such awful legal advice regarding residency. Or he figured if Obama could be elected President with such doubtful proof of citizenship, then being elected Mayor of Chicago would be a piece of cake.

They showed a “rent a mob” of Rahm supporters outside the Chicago elections office on last night’s news, protesting the legal decision. They claim if he is ahead in all the polls then it would be a “travesty” that Chicago voters would not be allowed to vote for him. We don’t need no stinkin’ election law.../s
