The Illinois Supreme Court has granted Rahm Emanuel's stay. Which means he's back on the ballot.
Earlier today Emanuel's spokesman Ben Labolt said he had plans to turn to the U.S. Supreme Court if Emanuel doesn't receive a favorable ruling from the state.
Emanuel's lawyers filed an emergency appeal with the Illinois Supreme Court, asking to have him re-added to ballots. Today, ballots are being printed without Emanuel's name after an Illinois Appellate Court residency decision on Monday booted him.
Some believe Emanuel will look at a First Amendment question for the U.S. court to weigh in if a state ruling doesn't go his way
...and a Supreme Court bought & paid for.
Like there was ever any doubt.
Rahm should be thanking a certain magic negro.
Now all they have to do is drag their feet until the election and Oooops! he was still on the ballot and got elected and they wouldn’t want to overrule the will of the people, now would they? /sarc
GUARANTEED this guy is on the ballot. GUARANTEED he wins the Mayor position, whether or not he wins.
A First Amendment challenge? Why not the Commerce Clause?
This banana republic just to the South just keeps doing all it can to get people and business to “Escape to Wisconsin”
Wasn’t there a movie about this....The FIX?
The rats are the masters of this , all to the demise of America.
Which is kind of interesting, because if the ballots are printed with his name on them, and he loses all the appeals, then his name will still be on the ballot but he can’t be elected. So I wonder how they will handle that? If they don’t modify the ballots, some, perhaps many, democratic votes might be wasted by voters selecting him even though he can’t be elected.
First Amendment question???
Was there any doubt....and they want to send poor Blago to prison when all of Chicago politicians are all crooks.
Sometimes Laz, it seems you have too good info !! Of course in the ballerina’s case you were right its a slam dunk.
The Supreme Court should decline to accept this case at all...It’s a state matter.
It’s the Chicago way. Who is surprised?
No, the success of the stay is unsurprising. Illinois election code, theoretically, favors ballot access. You’ll always get a presumption of successful appeal because so much depends on critical timing, ballot printing, timed advertising, the unmovable nature of election day, etc. Even the most disfavored candidate could’ve got the stay. Wait for the actual decision. I still think it goes against him.
There is no longer any rule of law, apparently.
It’s very unlikely that SCOTUS would accept the case. They have refused to do so in several similar cases, including the NJ senate race where the Democrats cheated in 2000 and the recent race in Alaska where Murkowski supporters cheated.
I think it all boils down to this: What does the Chicago Mafia want? It seems unlikely that the appellate court would have found against Rahm unless Daley and the Machine approved. And although Obama says he supports Rahm, some have their doubts.
Well, it’s up to the Illinois Supreme Court, IMHO.
This sounds EXACTLY like that Christmas Story where they dump the letters to Santa on the judges desk....
That’s friggin’ hilarious!
iT IS THE Eillinois Supreme Court
Are there any photos of him in his ballet tights?
He is “deemed” on the ballot.
What a friggin’ show...
What does that mean? Should I contribute to Mosley Braun?
I am really beginning to hate politics.....arrrggggh!!
I dont think I can take tonight, why oh why are they all sitting together?
I remember seeing an old newspaper with Capone’s face. They had IQ = 20 on his forehead.
He’s entitled to running, yaknow.. doesn’t matter what the law says..
Heck, dead folk are gonna write him in overwhelmingly anyway. ;-)
I dunno, the state elections guy said today they had to go to print based on the Appeals Court decision, so the Supremes stepped in to prevent that. But the elections guy said they’d have to destroy and reprint the ballots if the decision was reversed, so I’d say that will still be the case.
Chicago is totally corrupt.
If he can’t weasel his way back on the ballot, he isn’t corrupt enough to be the Mayor of Chicago.
iT IS THE Eillinois Supreme Court
The Democrat Party motto: The rules/laws DO NOT apply to us.
Since there’s no basis for a stay, it’s most likely reflecting the final decision.
This is why real cases get slowed down, when that which is clear to see from the lowest court gets muddied up by ignoring straightforward laws.
Illinois Supreme Court Stops Printing of Chicago Mayoral Ballot
Good case for reincarnation.
It is an internal mob battle. Notice how Obama spoke in favor of Rahm and a court ruled in favor of Rahm.
The BCC Vs Rahm. Obama ruled Rahm without a beer fest.
I think they SHOULD take it up. But, the only available slot given their heavy schedule, would be to hear the case, in toto, at 1/25 9:00 PM. Shouldn't take more than 2 hours.
Obama to the Rescue?
President Barack Obama top political adviser Valerie Jarrett said Tuesday that the president thinks Rahm Emanuel belongs back on the ballot.
I think that [Obama] believes that [Emanuel] is eligible, and that he believes that Rahm will pursue his appeal in the courts, Jarrett, a senior adviser to Obama and fellow Chicagoan said on ABCs Good Morning America.
The former chief-of-staff was bounced from the Chicago mayoral ballot Monday in a surprise decision by the Illinois Appellate Court.
At a morning event, Emanuel said he already has spoken with the president.
“I’m discreet about conversations,” he said.”It was a very good conversation.
Jarrett said she doesn’t think they’ll be able to keep Emanuel down for long.
Yep, count the votes till the dems win and pull a Murkowski and write in or find votes in trees and car trunks, air internal mob fighting of power in public all because the CIC is the mob boss.
Who is the Tony Soprano Obama or Valerie Jarrett?
And what about Barry Soetoro?
Does he belong on any U.S. ballot?
