The Illinois Supreme Court has granted Rahm Emanuel's stay. Which means he's back on the ballot.
Earlier today Emanuel's spokesman Ben Labolt said he had plans to turn to the U.S. Supreme Court if Emanuel doesn't receive a favorable ruling from the state.
Emanuel's lawyers filed an emergency appeal with the Illinois Supreme Court, asking to have him re-added to ballots. Today, ballots are being printed without Emanuel's name after an Illinois Appellate Court residency decision on Monday booted him.
Some believe Emanuel will look at a First Amendment question for the U.S. court to weigh in if a state ruling doesn't go his way
They’re not going to let a little thing like ineligibility get in their way.
Blago always reminded me of Fredo Corleone. Don't go in that fishing boat, Blago!!!
Exactly how it will go down.
And people will vote in droves for him and in the next breath wonder out loud why corruption is so rampant.
THAT is when the power interests will make sure to shop the case to a Progressive-Minded Judge, to get the Illinois eligibility ruled "flawed", and he will be Mayor in the end.
Obama to the rescue?
Obama rules by his personal FIAT?
Its all NO regard for the law when he steps up and creates the law.
Just a demonstration of things to come.
Good point. This isn't an exercise in justice, it's a job-application test.
i will be pleasantly surprised if emmanuel doesn’t get her way on this
This from a guy who supposedly ‘taught’ Constitutional law. lol
Hey, it’s Chicago, who gives a rat’s rear end? Crappy sports teams, crappier weather, politics that make Al Capone look law-abiding.
A little “global warming” to raise the level of Lake Michigan a few feet would bring much needed improvement to the area, IMHO.
Mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel (Michael Tercha/ Tribune)
I knew it was too good to be true. These Dems are the slickest, most treacherous bastards with the proper connections in every arena.
He aint that educated, nor that smart.
Just army of marxomuslims and leftists pushing his agenda which is contrary to a successful America. All feeders looking to redistribute wealth, level the playing field. Soon, they too will be shrugged off to complete his islamic drive.
They only granted the stay, not the expedited appeal.
Watch for the IL Supreme Court to schedule it for a hearing after the primary. If Rahm wins the primary, he’s off the ballot. If he loses the primary, the case is moot.
Nice little group of thugs he’s posing with.
seems silly to print them, who is going to pay for it?
Speaking of Barry Soetoro. Remember the Onama roast about HIS NAME?
>Emanuel’s lawyers filed an emergency appeal with the Illinois Supreme Court, asking to have him re-added to ballots.<
An emergency. Just how critical is it that the tiny(and profane)dancer be mayor and why?
“The former chief-of-staff was bounced from the Chicago mayoral ballot Monday in a surprise decision by the Illinois Appellate Court.”
So, if the writer says that this was a “surprise decision” by the court, what does this say about the writers pre suppositions and beliefs?
This is Chicago politics. We don’t need no stinkin’ rules.
Interesting read on Big Gov:
To pull it out for Rahm, the SC needs at least *some* wiggle room, and I’m not sure they’ve got it. Also would like to see someone follow up on the mysterious reactivation of his voter registration status.
Hey, if you can get an unqualified guy elected POTUS, doing the same for Chicago mayor is a walk in the park.
And not news.
Post of the Thread.
How is this that complicated?
Did he live there? No. Did he need to be? Yes. Can he run this year? No.
2+2 does not equal 5 just because you want it to.
Obama wants Chico to win. He wants Rahm out. Will Rahm’s body be found in a dumpster like Wheelers?
His Dishonor, da Mayuh of Chicaago.
And if it doesn’t go against him, how will the residency requirement for police, firefighters and teachers be handled?
Party affiliation of Illinois justices:
Thomas L. Kilbride (Chief Justice) Democratic 2000 2010
Charles E. Freeman Democratic 1990 2012
Robert R. Thomas Republican 2000 2010
Mary Jane Theis Democrat 2010 20??
Rita B. Garman Republican 2001 2012
Lloyd A. Karmeier Republican 2004 2014
Anne M. Burke Democratic 2006 2018
Four rats and three Repubs. Now which way do you suppose this’ll turn?!
The antics of the unions back in the 60s and 70s managed to get them to where they went from what, 40% (?) down to 15%. After they get through with this round of looting a few mobsters may wind up rich, but there aren’t going to BE any unions in America.
Either that or they’re going to rule us with an iron fist.
Extremely unlikely the Supreme Court would intervene - the cases cited above, arguably, have a federal component since they decided a member of Congress. The election of the major of Chicago has no federal component (well, except when Daley stuffed the ballot boxes for Kennedy - but that's pretty remote.)
My aunt and uncle lived in the Chicago area for 50 years. Recently they defected and crossed the Cheddar Curtain to join us in WI.
The first time Auntie and I discussed Rahm running for mayor, and the ballot trouble, she said he will be the mayor. Legal or not doesn’t matter, he will be mayor.
LOL...perfect!!! Goes right along with this farcical election process.
From one ineligible to another. It’s like a drunk reporting his drinking buddy as sober.
Maybe, but the Appellate court has done a fair job of showing the municipal code requires actual and not merely constructive residence specifically for candidates as opposed to voters. If the SC wants to avoid trashing ordinary statutory construction (and even the dems would have some motivation to that effect), Rahm must lose:
Maybe that will split the Dems enough. There hasn’t been a Republican in that office since 1931. Are there any GOP candidates?
From the New York Daily News:
Rahm Emanuel's role as pointe man means new respect for boys & ballet
BY Joe Dziemianowicz
Monday, November 17th 2008
Belly up the barres, boys. It's a perfect time to take the leap and don those tights - or maybe that's vice versa.
With the flurry of attention for the ballet history of congressman Rahm Emanuel (President-elect Obama's pick for White House chief of staff), it's suddenly become a lot cooler to be a guy who knows his way around toeshoes, turnouts and tights.
Here's Rahm as a young fledgling ballerina...
They need a Republican (and I’m not a dyed in wool Party partisan) if only to break up the big city corruption that has become so typical all over the USA. Politics in every city has become a given to the Democrats. It is a rip off to all Americans because we pay for these partisan scum bags.. Big city corruption equals Democrats. Power corrupts.
I read the decision and the dissent and think in this case the dissenter has the better of the argument. Rahm Emannuel remained a resident of Chicago while he was in D.C. because he had always intended to return, and only rented out but did not sell his home, in which he left some important personal property.
I think Rahm will prevail in the Illinois Supreme Court and be elected Mayor of Chicago.
Now perhaps Obama will claim that he had always intended to be born in Hawaii. LOL.
To misquote Scarlett O'Hara "Just like Florida in 2000, just like Florida in 2000!"
What was it all those libturds said after the Supremes refused to get involved in the election that Algore lost: Selected, not elected?
I heard Rahm got a Certificate of Living in Chicago from the state of Hawaii
This has become a printer’s nightmare.
Quid pro quo—Da Chicago way.
Not all registered voters can be mayor of Chicago. Even Richard M. Daley (died 1976) can no longer run for mayor, whether or not he votes.
