Ailing Zsa Zsa Gabor forced to sell her $28m Bel-Air mansion to pay for medical treatment
(London) Daily Mail ^ | January 26, 2011

It's been the scene of opulent parties and revelry.

But Zsa Zsa Gabor's starry life at her Bel Air mansion has now finally come to an end.

As the 93-year-old actress' health worsens, her husband has been forced to sell the couple's palatial mansion in order to pay for her medical fees.

Zsa Zsa's ninth husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt told the media that he made the decision on Saturday, when his wife returned home from the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after having about three-fourths of her leg amputated.

It was the 67-year-old socialite that gave the go-ahead for his wife's life-saving operation.

Doctors treating Gabor at the Los Angeles hospital decided on the procedure after an MRI revealed gangrene in her leg had spread into the bone.

Von Anhalt told the Los Angeles Times that his wife's mounting medical bills and bad debt are too much to deal with, and they need to sell the house so he can continue to look after her.

I’ll give the guy credit, for an apparent gigolo he seems to be trying to take good care of her.

Obamacare? For a person who’s 93 years old?

The Obamacare treatment for her would be “You’ve had a Complete Life; go home and die”.

"mounting medical bills and bad debt"

Have they heard of mortgages -- or maybe the "bad debt" (?) has something to do with it?

It's hard to believe that she could possibly accumulate $28,000,000 in medical bills that aren't covered by Medicare.

I doubt it's the medical bills that are the problem. My father had health problems as bad as ZsaZsa’s and Medicare paid the bills.

I think he wants to sell the house now while she's still alive to have her cash in hand when she goes.

It sounds like she was house rich and cash poor.

The Prince has, however, put one rather large condition on the sale. That is, that his wife of 15 years will be allowed to live in the house for the rest of her life.

That sounds very reasonable, selling her house now instead of waiting until after she dies so the money can be spent on her care.

Tear down. It’s a dated dump. Astro turf and concrete pavers.

#1 — Highly doubtful it is worth $28 million...maybe $10
#2 -— Probably has all kinds of second mortgages on it already
#3— She and hubby been pulling money out of it for years

Those are my guesses
Good luck ZaZa!

$28 million is the house's value, not the unpaid bills. Also, I expect Zsa Zsa wants care better than Medicare pays for - such as a private room, personal nurse, doctors that work on her schedule rather than getting around to her treatment when they have time behind all the other Medicare patients.

The article said that the medical bills were $21,000 per month plus $35,000 a month for upkeep on the house itself.

...Von Anhalt told the Los Angeles Times that his wife's mounting medical bills and bad debt ...
First of all, it's not just the medical bills causing them to sell.
Second, if she's on Medicare, why didn't they buy a MediGap or Medicare Advantage plan?
Even if it cost an extra $500 a month, it would be better than the $21K a month it's costing her now.

Maybe she needs the money to pay for alternative therapies she thinks may help her.

They are going to probably have to deal with taxes on everything above 1.4 million of that.

If they get their 28 million for the home she paid 600k for they could find themselves owing 11 plus milliosn in taxes for the sale.
Government never earned this money, but some person here for 30 years who doesn't yet speak English will surely benefit from their loss, along with government unions.

IMO sickening!

PS: Won't sell for more than 13-21 million IMO.

“It’s hard to believe that she could possibly accumulate $28,000,000 in medical bills that aren’t covered by Medicare”

Exactly. This is ridiculous, but as long as it fits the liberal story line the MSM will report it. If they can afford a 28 million dollar home, they can certainly afford the very best insurance, but even without insurance this story is ridiculous.

Cary Grant at 80 still had women wanting to chase him around.
Zsa Zsa’s Prince husband has at least not been goofy and silly regarding the seriousness of this issue. I will give him that because the guy has a reputation of a celebutard!
Now is he selling her home after the medical got covered by her insurance and medicare to move all the money into his accounts? Don't know!

They did invest I think with Madoff (sp), so they could be very cash poor.

I thought only people that smoked cigarettes racked up medical bills.

$28m invested at 2.4% after tax would cover it.
