Posted on 01/27/2011 12:55:14 PM PST by NormsRevenge
WASHINGTON Senate leaders said Thursday they have agreed that minority Republicans would filibuster fewer bills and nominations in exchange for a promise by the Democratic majority to give them more chances to offer amendments.
The gentleman's agreement announced by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican leader Mitch McConnell was part of a package of measures to make the Senate a more workable and less contentious place. It also included support of a resolution, to be voted on later in the day, to end the practice of one senator being able to secretly block votes and a rules change that would slash by a third the number of presidential appointments that need Senate approval.

The republican senate and house leadership is comprised mostly of left wing socialists, as soon as you accept this fact and operate from that position th ebetter it will be. It will all make sense to you if you can just hold that thought for a while
I don’t understand how no one in here understands that, with a republican controlled House, this is not a bad thing...
Not to mention if, heaven forbid, the SC loses one of its conservatives. Do the Pubs just let 0 create a socialist majority on the court, or do they filibuster for their right to maintain the present balance?
This is maybe not a bad thing now, but it could well become a very bad thing. Especially given the Pubs' long-standing tendency to roll over and submit at crunch time.
“They are in the minority in the Senate. The senate is ruled by the majority. The democrats are in the majority.”
“Too few have come. We cannot defeat the armies of Mordor.”
Theoden: “No. We cannot. But we will meet them in battle nonetheless.”
At least act like you have some balls. Pitiful.
“Am I mistaken or don’t we have even more Senators now than we did before? Why should we take a weaker position than we had before? Why shouldn’t we fight for better position and not just lay down and rot?”
You failed to understand the first part of my reponse, so here it is again.
The republican leaders in the house and seante are socialists, so they take a weaker psoition to advance socialism. they do not give a hoot about the conservative agenda. And the cry from the right is “They just don’t get it.” Which is pretty much where you are coming from. Once you accept the basic fact that republican leaders in the house and seante are socialists, it will all make perfect snese to you.
How about just slashing presidential appointments by one third, period. The constitution lets the prez appoint ambassadors, judges, his own staff, and the original cabinet departments. War, Treasury, Justice and Interior. That ought to be enough. No more czars and such. The modern presidency is ridiculously bloated.

Disgusting wimpy puke!
Thanks for explaining your position again. You were right, I missed it the first time.
It sounds like we gave the Dems a graceful exit from their plan. They know all too well that the Senate will flip in 2012 and the last thing they want are rules that favor the majority.
The article says nothing about that.
Yep, elections have consequences.
The Senate just voted to keep the filibuster rules unchanged.
These old senile buttholes need to go out to pasture.
Read my lips...and tagline....Rs!
It just never works to our advantage to agree to something with
the Democrats. NEVER!
GOP surrenders AGAIN
Peep, Peep, Peep,Peep
Only one of many reasons why it's ultimately counterproductive and suicidal to make deals with Democrats. ANY deals.
Time for Term Limits? 2 in the Senate 4 in the House? 1 in the WH?
Shouldn’t the people see new faces every decade or so.. nothing like new blood, besides I’m not sure how in touch Senators are these days with the plights of the masses.
I thought he played banjo. He must be multi-musically talented.
These feckless RINOs are troglodytes. Always caving!
Wow. Nice doo. Larry Curly and Mo. lol
btw I don't even remember 1981.. I was still single then. :-}
I posted this the other day, and I’ll repeat it as often as I feel necessary:
Conservatives and Republicans had best recognize that the next election will either be an all-out BIG GAME hunt on OUR side of the ballot, or it will be a wholesale surrender to the left.
How long will we waver between two opinions?? If The Constitution is important then STAND AND DEFEND IT WITH YOUR VOTE!! If not; then go re-register as a damned Democrat and get it the Hell over with!!
In 2012, and beyond, either go all in, or get the Hell out.
THOSE are your TWO choices; there are ONLY those two choices, and for the sake of all you hold dear, you had better disabuse yourself NOW of the fatal idea that a third way exists.
This nation can no longer endure an electorate that indulges itself in the failed notion that there is some la-dee-da common ground where we can all stand shoulder-to-shoulder under a starry sky with candles held aloft singing Kum-ba-ya. THAT land exists ONLY in leftist propaganda posters worthy of Maos China, the Third Reich, and the old Soviet Union.
There is hot; there is cold, and between the two is a NO-MANS LAND.
There is Right and there is Wrong, and between the two there is a NO-MANS LAND inhabited only by RINOs and carrion beasts.
So, then, let us ENSURE that, in wake of the upcoming elections, the RINOs remain ONLY as fodder for the carrion beasts.
Let us get shet of them once and for all!
EVERYTHING IS AT STAKE! ACT LIKE IT!
Not only are they not in touch with the grassroots. They live altogether different lives.
All the political offices get way too many benefits for starters.
We will never get what we want until that day we get the Left out of power, and treat them as the impaired lot they are. Dems, and RINO’s have to be eliminated from leadership period. They are the enemy within.
Wow. Such a deal... a PROMISE! And we know the value those promises hold.
New day, same GOP.
Why don’t the GOP just go play golf or something? They’ll be just as effective at representing their constituencies as if they’re in the Capitol building.
Do you really think "The GOP has no power" is sufficient reason for Freepers not to threaten the GOP for their betrayal of the United States Constitution.
The best way to punish a party that is out of power is to vote 'rat until the GOP gets the message.
rat - it's the new conservatism.
I will promise you this. These Rinos will fold like lawn chairs. Then we know who they are and escort them to the door. The Tea Party is not over.
The Dems know that they will be the minority come 2012. All they are doing is setting things up so they can still run the Senate when they no longer have the majority. The Repubs will sit on their hands and watch them do it, silently.
I think Reid has pix of republicans with HIM.
If this does not PROVE that at the CORE <— there is no difference between the Democrats and Republicans.. our ONLY hope in 2012 is to fill every seat with an INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE !! and the process for doing that is GOOOH ! at least for the House.. which is really where we need to focus our attention since it is the House that hold America’s PURSE STRINGS !
Where were the “gentlemen” when Reid was majority leader?
Where were the “gentlemen” when Reid was majority leader?
Forget I said that. ;-> Maybe it's time to go to sleep.
Dammit, man, be a man and stand up to the enemy in the White House...what do we have to do, sew some cajones in your pants and pull the strings that work your mouth???? We The People cannot give your courage or strength of conviction...that, politicians, must come from that core within you.
We must continue to ride their azzes and tell them what we expect of them...we cannot let up.
same crap, different year.
they are all in cahoots with each other.
Link takes you to a different headline.
The tea continues to brew. These RINOs keep the flame going.
Sounds like a cave-in.
Some Republicans never learn. Maybe they don’t even want to.
What is the difference, Obama has gotten around the senate for his appointments anyway.
I wonder just how much longer Obama will allow that pesky congress to continue to cramp his style and just abolish the whole House thing all together.
Thx for catching that!
