That's quite an accomplishment!

Another thing our school does is....starting in 3rd grade, the kids are given a checkbook register with a $50 balance. As they go through their day, they can either earn money or deduct money from their "checking account", usually in increments of $5, $10 or $20.

If they need a pencil, they have to "buy" it for $10. 10 Sheets of paper will also cost you $10. If the child is following directions w/o being asked or completed an assignment in a certain manner, they can earn money

At approx. every 3 months, the teacher will have things to auction off (books, stuffed animals, etc.) that the kids can bid on with the money in their checkbooks.

This teaches the kids many different things and is invaluable, IMO
