Newt probably knows about as must about biofuels as Tony Rezko knows about ethics.
Some pandering is inevitable in presidential politics, but, befitting a college professor, Mr. Gingrich insists on portraying his low vote-buying as high "intellectual" policy. This doesn't bode well for his judgment as a president. Even Al Gore now admits that the only reason he supported ethanol in 2000 was to goose his presidential prospects, and the only difference now between Al and Newt is that Al admits he was wrong.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704698004576104682930044012.html
I really did not need any other reasons for disliking Newt, but thanks anyhow.
NewT doesn’t care about the food supply and impact the growing use of ethanol has on it? More GoPoop on a stick..
Gingrich/Santorum 2012
Newt needs to go live in a corn field and learn what corny is all about.
Newt, ... you Incompetent b@st@rd, “I read your book!”
Two people who don't drive pre-2007 vehicles.
The only people that love ethanol are commie enviros and drunks!
Two words.... Corn Lobby. Ethanol made from corn? We IMPORT oil to make the petrochemically derived fertilizer to grow corn which then is fermented USING SIGNIFICANT ENERGY, to make ethanol. Ethanol is NOT clean burning. It is more polluting that regular gasoline.. this is a fact. In addition, ethanol is corroding and ruining small engine carbeurators and large auto injeciton systems, and is extremely destructive to automotive rubber gaskets. In short, this is one EXPENSIVE, POLLUTING nightmare that jacks up corn prices and hence FOOD prices. Grain fed beef... guess what.
Absolutely irresponsible. Thanks Bob Dole... what a legacy.
Chrissy Matthews...er Newt Gingrich....probably has a tingling feeling going up his legs.
FR needs to go “Giuliani” on Newt, now....
Clearly energy independence is going to require bipartisan consensus. We need a broad spectrum of energy development, including wind, geothermal, solar, nuclear, ethanol, coal, biodiesel, increased domestic oil and gas production, as well as further development of the oil sands in Canada and the shale resources of the Rocky Mountain area. A solid energy plan will require compromise by all parties. And the environmental lobby must accomplish something it presently is not noted for -- compromise. Working together, we can achieve energy independence. Bipartisanship and compromise are the two critical elements.
Is he huffing, shooting or smoking it?
Ethanol is a total bust!
Now if someone can come up with a way to turn kudzu into biofuel then that would be a win.
I know it sounds all greenie and liberal but I think solar is what will end up being the tech that frees us from our total dependence on fossil fuel. Right now it cannot compete as it is still more expensive than power generated from fuel but solar tech is on an exponential curve and will in a few years become cheaper than oil tech. When the point is reached when solar saves $$$ then oil’s days will be numbered. At first oil will drop in price to stay cheaper than solar in order to keep oil producing nations afloat. But as the price is forced down, down, down a point will be reached where oil cannot be pumped and refined cheaply enough to be useful. I give oil 30 years at most until that happy day arrives.
Solar and battery/storage technology will be our salvation.
This is what will suck the life out of the loathsome nations that now profit greatly from the sale of oil. The worst of them have absolutely nothing to fall back on and will descend into well earned chaos.
The only ethanol Newt likes is on the rocks.
Aren't you going to tell everyone what despicable RINO is behind that quote?
Is there a dumber RINO quote on energy anywhere?
Bipartisanship and compromise is what's going to lead us to energy independence?
What kind of moron would say that? Newt? Nancy? McCain?
Which reminds me. Of all the talk about cutting spending, what’s missing is any discussion of ending subsidies to corn growers, sugar growers, milk producers, etc.
Mr. Gingrich is not registered with the Senate as a lobbyist for any ethanol interest, so it’s not a great headline a lobbyist doesn’t mean the same thing, exactly, as a proponent.
Maybe he’s just an undocumented lobbyist.
Newt is thinking about the Iowa caucus in 2012.
