“It shouldnt take federal oversight, however, to prevent states from locking up innocent people. The ball is in the state governments court. Lets hope they do the right thing with it.”
New jersey has never done the right thing when it comes to guns. Several decades ago a man was en-route to Europe to engage in international competition. He jumped through every hoop the airline and New Jersey put him through. In spite of that he was arrested and locked up.
I had promised myself at the time never to use American Airlines again because of the slimy role they played in the incident. The guy was eventually released but over a year later he still had not gotten his guns back. (These were rifles, not handguns, which shouldn’t matter except in that miserable state.)
If you want to see how effective these laws are in protecting the people take a look at the gun related homicide rate in Newark, as one example. I lived in Pennsylvania and often traversed New Jersey to get to the shore. I will never forget the trip I made to go deep sea fishing when I realized that I had a box of shot shells in my trunk. (I shot trap twice a week at that time in Bucks County, PA.)
Those shells could have gotten me jail time in New Jersey. I despise that state and the legislators of both Parties who are responsible for its anti-gun laws and policies. Include Chris Cristy in their numbers.
Under what statute?
There has never been shotgun shell regulation. You don't even need a firearms purchaser ID to buy them.
The laws in NJ really suck but lets not invent laws that don't exist. I always hear uninformed people mention that Hollow points are illegal in NJ and it's simply not true. Hollow points are illegal to use illegally but for hunting, range and at home they are completely legal.
