Sen. Jim Webb won't run for reelection in 2012 (D-VA)
Washington Post ^ | February 9, 2011 | Ben Pershing

Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) has announced that he will not run for reelection in 2012.

Webb's decision, long anticipated by many in Virginia politics, will make his seat more difficult to hold for his party. Ex-Sen. George Allen (R), who lost the seat in 2006 to Webb, is running to win it back, and a handful of other GOP candidates are also running. Some Democrats hope ex-Gov. Tim Kaine will decide to run for the seat, but he has given no indication yet that he is interested.

I hope all the VA patriots will work hard during the Primary and select the BEST Conservative!

Kate Obenshain isn't running so we'll settle for George Allen.

Sen. Jim Webb won’t run for reelection in 2012 (D-VA)

What a sad disappointment Jim Webb has become.

Although I may have not personally liked him from some of his media
appearances a couple of decades ago, the account of how he helped
rebuild the USMC under Reagan in “Making The Corps” inspired my
personal respect.
(Along with his decision to leave behind the beaches of Southern California
for Annapolis...your average guy would call that freakin’ insane!).

BUT, the information on Webb that came out during his Senatorial
campaign was less-than-inspiring (I’m in Missouri).

I must respect his service. But will question his running for Senate
near the flag of Obama.
If I’d (unlikely) meet him, I’d shake his had and sincerely thank him for his service.
And ask him what he was thinking during his successful race for the US Senate.

And I’d tell him I’m not busting his chops. Nobody is perfect.

Who's next?

Let me ask this: How many do we need to pick up to take control? Then, how many above THAT to make our control filibuster proof?

‘Dems will have to spend big $$$ to defend maybe 14 seats’

Dems are defending 23 seats.

Macaca was a made up word. Trust me, on that. It was not widely known to have any usage in the English langauge

It was a common slur in North Africa used by those of European descent to refer to darker-skinned people. Allen's mother was raised in French Tunisia.

He knew it to be a racially pejorative term, and used it that way.

First, let's just be clear that y'all can't throw any explanations out on this that I haven't heard. But I've known George Allen for more than 25 years. I know where the word came from. I know where his mother was raised. I've even met most of his family. And I know the real story of what happened.

I promised myself after 2006 that I wouldn't fight that battle again here. But let me just say this.

Whether or not the word was in his background he did not intend it as a "racially pejorative" term. If nothing else, someone with a successful career of more than 20 years in politics and law is not going to be stupid enough to utter the equivalent of the n-word into a video camera.

It was, as Allen has said, a stupid mistake. And it was badly handled by the campaign.

That's the story. That's the truth.

I suggest you not buy too many lottery tickets.

Webb’s departure is unusual. Does he have a skeleton?

Not all that unusual for him. He's not stayed in any place too long. He's made no secret of the fact that he'd rather be writing books.

Truth be told, many of us were speculating that he wouldn't even finish his full term.

Unless, of course, that stupid someone is George Allen. It is what it is.

Webb? Probably not anymore. Not likely the White House would do that with Bob McDonnell sitting the Governor's Mansion.

Webb resigns. McDonnell appoints Allen.

Virginia will be a battleground state again in 2012. Obama and Tim Kaine will try to keep it in their column. But the last two years since 2008 have been very red. They're going to have a fight on their hands.

Had you ever had a conversation with Allen, you would know how ignorant your statement is.

However, as they say ignorance is bliss. Enjoy your delusions.

Wow, you talked to the guy. Maybe he made you feel special. Big deal. That doesn’t rewrite history. He screwed up. It is what it is.

Enjoy your delusions.

Like I said above, I’ve known him for 25 years.

Believe what you will. I’m not very good at changing small minds.
