Sen. Jim Webb won't run for reelection in 2012 (D-VA)
Washington Post ^ | February 9, 2011 | Ben Pershing

Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) has announced that he will not run for reelection in 2012.

Webb's decision, long anticipated by many in Virginia politics, will make his seat more difficult to hold for his party. Ex-Sen. George Allen (R), who lost the seat in 2006 to Webb, is running to win it back, and a handful of other GOP candidates are also running. Some Democrats hope ex-Gov. Tim Kaine will decide to run for the seat, but he has given no indication yet that he is interested.

I don’t want Allen and I sure don’t want Kaine. If that’s the race, Kaine wins.

Allen will make it a tough win for the GOP.

He sure is a grouchy SOB. Good riddance.

I want Cucinelli. Wish I lived in VA.

I think Allen will get his campaign off to a good start but then it will readily become apparent that he’s not holding a winning hand.

Bring on Cucinelli for senate. I smell another VA prez in the making.

Kaine beats Allen, Cucinelli beats Kaine. Paper, scissors, rock.

Cantor v. Kaine is a toss-up, but it probably goes to Kaine. But I don’t see Cantor getting in it. He’s not looking good these days. Boehner, Cantor, Ryan....none of them are looking good.

Four things take Brown out: omuzzie’s continued malice toward business; a solid GOP candidate; a powerful GOP ground game; some successes by/for Kasich.

If Kaine is the rat candidate, he beats Allen. Kaine has got a huge machine behind him.

There is just something about the senate and the GOP that just cannot click.

We never win as many seats as we expect and the people we elect to the senate more often than not turn out to be big disappointments.

I think Webb was told to hit the road. Being a good little commie, he’s complying. The rats know Kaine will be a lot harder for the GOP to beat than Webb would be.

It’s all just a numerical calculation for the rats.

Allen will lose to Kaine.

Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched.

Kaine couldn’t lift the rat candidates last year because nobody could lift them. The rats centered their resources in states they had a chance of holding onto, VA not being one of them. Remember, they already had the results of the VA gubernatorial race as a reference. If Kaine runs, the rat machine will be churning powerfully for him, and it’ll be more than the state machine. The DC machine will be deployed for him as well. And don’t forget that there are a lot of blacks in VA, and the rats will get a huge turnout. He has the heft within the party to demand it. The fact that Webb is out means it’s highly likely that Kaine has already been selected and the machine is revving up as we speak.

George Allen cannot put together a fulsome enough base to beat him. It will take someone fresh and powerful to beat Kaine.

Anybody who thinks ‘12 will be a repeat of ‘10 for us is either hallucinating or simply doesn’t understand politics. There will be many defensive contests to fight. We may run the table if we do everything right every step of the way starting NOW, but a sitting prez is very hard to beat and 60 seats in the Senate will prove a bridge too far. We’ll get 54-55 and it will be a very divided Senate philosophically. We’ll hold the House but it will be tough to maintain this large a majority. If we don’t nominate an absolutely superb candidate, we will not take the WH. Obama has a tremendous amount of money and astonishingly powerful people and entities backing him. In fact, if they don’t pull it together within the next 6 weeks, they may have already damned us for ‘12 and, therefore, forevermore.

We are in the fight of our lives NOW. So far, the pubs we worked so hard to elect last year are proving unequal to the task we gave them. That bodes very poorly for success in ‘12. If we lose that election and Obama is given four years of free reign over this country, we’re done. Finito. Stick a fork in America.

The fight is on NOW. We should have armies doing opposition research and devising methods of defeating rat vote fraud NOW. We should be beating the bushes looking for the best candidates and vetting, vetting, vetting NOW. Most of all, we should be laying down the law to Boehner, Cantor, Ryan and the rest of them and bugging them night and day relentlessly.

oops. For the above post, the following sentence should be at the end of the second to last paragraph instead of before it (makes no sense where it is):

“In fact, if they don’t pull it together within the next 6 weeks, they may have already damned us for ‘12 and, therefore, forevermore.”

Is there anyone other than that jock doofus George Allen?

There others but the Dems will probably try to talk the most recent former governor, Tim Kaine, into running. There's at least one more relatively young former GOP governor besides Allen. Not sure who else is on the political scene in VA.

Yes, I agree. Virginia needs a very strong GOP candidate in order to flip this seat.

A very strong GOP candidate for president will also help.

Lets hope and pray things fall in place.

LOL! Sometimes I forget that it is neither “I” nor “we” who will be running.
