Jimmy Carter - Iran
Barack Obama - Egypt
Interesting because I was watchin Beck a little while ago.

He mentioned that 32 years ago in Iran, students etc revolted and had massive rallies in favor of democracy.

Result was the Ayatollah Khomeini flying in and them expecting a Ghandi.

History repeating itself.

he praised the people of Egypt for their peaceful protests

He must believe that any word he speaks is true and/or will become true merely because he speaks it.

He call those rioters "peaceful" - and calls the Tea Partiers violent.

Up is down, East is West - IF "The WON" decrees it.

Now don’t be too hasty. If the British were still riding herd on us maybe we wouldn’t be in such a mess now. ~8^0

Was Dyer punished for his actions? reprimanded? Sure the British empire was better than most colonial states, but that doesn’t whitewash its shortcomings. Which is why everyone from the Americans to the Israelis to the Kenyans waged war against it.

For someone who went to an evangelical congregration in South Africa and had an English priest as a good friend, that’s a pretty weird charge.

That leftwing nuts and lot of folks here say a lot of things about Gandhi, but leave out the most important thing. He was a shrewd political operator.

The Indian communists hated him long after he was dead.

Ok, back up the “Ghandi was commie” meme with references.

In his own words:

Socialism is a beautiful word and, so far as I am aware, in socialism all the members of society are equal—none low, none high. In the individual body, the head is not high because it is the top of the body, nor are the soles of the feet low because they touch the earth. Even as members of the individual body are equal, so are the members of society. This is socialism.

In it the prince and the peasant, the wealthy and the poor, the employer and employee are all on the same level. In terms of religion there is no duality in socialism. It is all unity.

No man should have more land than he needs for dignified sustenance.

As I have contended, socialism, even communism, is explicit in the first verse of Ishopanishad. What is true is that when some reformers lost faith in the method of conversion, the technique of what is known as scientific socialism was born. I am engaged in solving the same problem that faces scientific socialists.

Also see The Gandhi Nobody Knows which is among the articles cited in this 2005 Free Republic thread titled: Gandhi Was a Racist? (Socialist idol being cast down?). A variety of opinions concerning Gandhi are offered by the posters in that thread, some of whom you may agree with, Clock King, others not so much.

For someone who went to an evangelical congregration in South Africa and had an English priest as a good friend, that’s [Gandhi's anti-Christianity] a pretty weird charge.

One article concerning Gandhi's views on Christianity is A Critique of Gandhi on Christianity.

Here are some quotes from his own writings:

"I regard Jesus as a great teacher of humanity, but I do not regard him as the only begotten son of God." -- Gandhi (1937)

"I came to the conclusion long ago … that all religions were true and also that all had some error in them." -- Gandhi (1928)

>>>”Obama recalls Gandhi in welcoming Mubarak’s departure”<<<

Goes to show Obama doesn’t know about history, and at best twists it to suit his own agenda for now.

Obama’s legacy will be his highly inflated ego, unmatched by Carter. I’m sure both Martin Luther King & Gandhi are turning in their graves.

That he wasn’t a Christian is one thing but to say he was anti-Christian is a stretch.

If Gandhi was supportive of the commies, why didn’t they reciprocate by supporting the ‘Quit India’ movement and other strike calls by Gandhi???

That he [Gandhi] wasn’t a Christian is one thing but to say he was anti-Christian is a stretch.

We may be differing over semantics of what "anti" means in this case. Please understand that I do tend to take a strict, literal approach in this regard and base my contention upon this well-known passage from the Holy Bible:

“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. And so I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy. But the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” [Matthew 12:30-32]

>>>””I regard Jesus as a great teacher of humanity, but I do not regard him as the only begotten son of God.” — Gandhi (1937)”<<<

You got to remember that Gandhi was trying to achieve a balance between Hindu & Moslem beliefs in India during his time (a very contentious issue in India at Gandhi’s time, which later led to the partition of India, and the creation of an Islamic state called Pakistan).

Gandhi therefore was very much influenced by moslem teachings, and often recited from the Koran at the beginning of most of his public gatherings/speeches.

(not only moslems do not accept/view Jesus as the only begotten son of God, but also believe “God”, literally, can not have any “sons” at all).

"Egyptians have inspired us" - Obama

so...are Americans supposed to rise up and remove another African leader from power?

Same with me. The issue here is did he hate Christians?? Work against them?? Going by your yardstick-how many American presidents or politicians stick their neck out for Christ?? Giving speeches on abortion, homosexuality is easy, but how many of them have consistently called these sins. From what I know-very few have.

Gandhi was no saint but he laid the foundations for a secular and democratic India where Christians (me included) can live and preach freely for most parts. He probably did more for Christians in his country than most supposedly Christian politicians in the US and elsewhere have done for their people.

Thank you very much for the article from "Christian Today India". However, I must disagree with the following statement attributed to Gandhi:

"...study the non–Christian religions more sympathetically to find the good that is within them, in order to have a more sympathetic approach to the people."

I find that at odds with Christ's teaching: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." [John 14:6]

Especially with the pure evil that lies at the heart of Islam, I think it is not wise to study that religion with any degree of sympathy or toleration.

Gandhi agreeing to partition after earlier ill-advised overtures to the Muslim league was probably the most important decision he made in his life. And despite the genocides, a right one.

About studying other religions, that depends on why you want to do it. How can you reach out to Muslims with the Gospel if you don’t learn about their religion??? The average Muslim is much smarter than most people think and I’ve seen many tie knots around Christians.
