John Boehner has condemned President Obama’s new plans to slash the budget deficit by $1.1trillion over the next ten years, calling the country ‘broke’ and saying the cuts don’t go far enough.
The House of Representatives Speaker warned: ‘Everything is on the table. We’re broke. Let’s be honest with ourselves.’
His damning assessment comes as White House budget director Jack Lew said the cuts will put the government on track to halve the budget deficit by the end of Obama's first term in office in 2012.

If they can do that then the Dems will scream about the pain and convince those that love those programs to vote Democratic...

A$1.1 trillion "cut" over 10 years is nothing. Almost like compounding a rounding error. And no cutss are made from cutting the entitlement programs.
Respectfully Mr. Lew, you're either lying, don't have a clue about your job, or both. There is no way a mere 1.1 Trillion over 10 years in any way "puts the government on track" to halve the budget deficit. Even if it did, we cannot afford to be running a deficit, period. Halving it would be no victory.
By the way, what's this {expletive} about "obama's first term?" Try only term. No, scratch that, how about illegal occupation!
Given that the current deficit is around $1.5 trillion, dutting the deficit by $1.1 trillion still leaves us deficit spending around half a trillion dollars a year...unsustainable, unacceptable, and frankly unbelievable.
The only deficit reduction that is credible is in spending that is cut NOW. Spending needs to be cut immediately and deeply enough to be meaningful, otherwise we may be toast.
Take down the USA so that the new Utopia can be built!
Obama should be tried for treason and be subject to the most severe consequences under the law.

I’m waiting for the old RINO leadership to start making excuses why they can’t cut this, or that, why the NEA and PBS can’t be cut, blah, blah, blah.
$100B is chump change now. We really do need to be going after cuts totaling at least $500B in this coming year’s budget. And the GOP should go after at least one defense project to show that truly “everything is on the table.”
