We may disagree on this woman's politics, who she works for, etc., etc., but to trivialize what happened to her is wrong on almost every level.
This woman was in a hostile place, no argument there, but in trying to do her job she was brutally assaulted and raped, those are the facts.
This woman should be in our prayer's and have our sympathies not ridicule.
That being said when Western women put themselves into the line of fire, so to speak, in Middle East Muslim countries they run the risk of a backlash even something like this.
She was an experienced reporter in that area of the world but when covering an uprising, one that the MSM said was peaceful, events can and will spiral out of control and this is one result.
I do not see the bravado of this woman thinking she will go back into that area of the world and continue to do her job when now in the back of her mind she will be wondering if this will happen again or worse she might get killed.

After reading all 149 posts I decided to chime in (again)

1. Did she deserve to be raped? Absolutely not.

2. Should she have expected to be raped (or assaulted) in that circumstance? Absolutely.

You don't go into a lion's cage wrapped in bacon and expect to not get eaten. Being there was just plain stupid on her part. A level of stupidity that is only seen in the actions of liberals.

3. Am I sad that she got raped? Yes. It should never happen.

4. Am I surprised she got raped. Not one bit. I expect EVERY western woman to get raped in such a circumstance. Moslems are animals*. Expecting them to do the civilized thing is always wrong. They will always be merely animals until islam is no more.

I don't understand why any woman would go to a moslem country (exception being those in the military who are heavily armed)

I agree with your assessment 100%. I stopped just short of hitting abuse on several replies, but noticed others had tried to set several other posters straight.

What’s your point? Do you want me to condemn the attack and the attackers? Sure. Those were bad people that attacked her. I would never consider an act like that and will not accept anyone (and in one case had to reject FOR LIFE a former close friend) that engaged in that type of activity.

But you full-well know the bottom-line. Whether they like it or not, women, around the world, CANNOT meander around in various states of clothing without risking this type of attack, in many, many, places. You may not like that, but don’t take it out on me - I’ve done my part.

It is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT that women understand this...because, at least in this one case, a women who definitely should have known better, clearly DID NOT.

So your attacks should be directed at the culture (i.e., Islam in this case) that seems to be comfortable with this behavior - rather than someone pointing out that, whether they like it or not, WOMEN NEED TO BE CAREFUL.

You know, as I think about this more, it becomes clear that this is an American response - and it makes PERFECT SENSE here. I don’t know of any part of America that says it’s fair game to attack women who might be dressed inappropriately (although I would not be surprised if there is some talk of that in some mosques here).

The thing to take away from this is that blaming the attacker only works in societies and cultures where the act is condemned. Trying to blame the attacker in a society where the LEADERS are actually calling for those types of attacks is FUTILE, and it make much more sense to simply warn people to be careful and stay clear.
