Posted on 02/16/2011 6:48:38 PM PST by Red in Blue PA
About 18 years ago, an Elverta homeowner placed a large sign in his front yard warning burglars to stay away. "WARNING, ANY BURGLAR CAUGHT ON THIS PROPERTY WILL BE SHOT AND KILLED."
This week, an amused Sacramento Sheriff's deputy took of picture of the sign and posted it on the internet. Within two days, homeowner Larry Buschette has gotten more inquiries about his sign than he has in the nearly two decades it has been planted in his front lawn.
"Eighteen years ago we got broken into," said Buschette. "after that I called a sign company and I had them make it and install it."
Has he had any trouble since? "No. No. None," he said, laughing.

I like one I saw in a catalogue:”Anyone found here at night will be found here in the morning”.
Now where can I get a “Don’t shoot the piano player” sign.
When I lived in AZ there was a rancher who had signs;
...Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be prosecuted
survivors will be shot again...
Let's watch this and see if the deputy or Buschette suddenly have government bureaucrat troubles after 18 years of none.
Simple sign,”There is nothing in here worth your life”.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
They will ruin the life of the law abiding for something as little as a sign, but allow the perps to walk free.
Criminals- if you are caught on this property, please leave your name and number so we can notify your next of kin.
I like that one.
Another sign that I like....
It’ll take you five seconds to reach the outer fence
My rottweilers can reach in it in 3 seconds
...you do the math
I have a simple motto: Shoot first and ask questions later. If I get a reply, shoot again and go to the range and practice some more.
I liked the big sign I saw on the web that said something like, “My neighbor is a bed-wetting liberal who’s afraid of guns. Rob him, he has no guns!”
Survivors will be dragged back inside the perimeter and shot again.
Trespassers will be violated.
I saw a sign in East Texas that had a picture of a large
revolver with the words:
“We don’t dial 911”
Seen that one as well.
Better: Trespassers will be shot. Those that live will be fed to the alligators.
If my dog don’t get’cha first, my gun will.
I have several of those signs on my fence although I have Labs
I like your sign,
But why advertise?
I was wandering down sort old dirt roads one day way back in the woods and came across a locked gate with a sign on it that said:
IS THERE LIFE AFTER DEATH?
Trespass Here And Find Out.
I turned right around and went the other way.
Buddy of mine put up a simple sign.
“Don’t come in my yard. My dogs haven’t eaten yet.”
He has a herd of dobermans.
Me and my Lab have an agreement.
We dont use signs.
He tells me when something is a miss, I get the shotgun.
I reward him later.
I like that...
“This property protected by shotgun 3 nights a week”
YOU GUESS WHICH THREE!
The last trespasser is in my freezer.
A better sign:
“No Trespassing! Violators will be killed and eaten.”
My lab use to bark, now she is deaf, lays in her chair and woofs at nothing. My family come in and they have to step over her if she is sleeping on the kitchen floor. Useless but sweet.
This reminds me of a little experience I had a few years ago on a road near this particular property. I was driving down the road, and I see, up ahead, some people walking on the roadside. As I approach, I can see that it's a three people and a dog. A young Mom, her eight- or nine-year-old son, and a toddler being pushed in a baby carriage. The dog is big, and is staying right with them.
As I pass them, I think "Jeez, I wonder if that dog is capable of protecting that Mom and her kids?" As I speed away from them, I glance up into my rear-view mirror to take one last look.
The Mom and her son are walking on down the road. The dog is walking with them, but he's got his head swiveled around and is looking right at me.
That’s great! I’d imagine in some remote areas dogs are a “must-have”; I wouldn’t want to be too far out without one. Here in NJ they are useful in dealing with black bears and coyotes in some of the more rural parts.
I have 3 Labs and nothing comes in my yard now. Every movement, be it wind, animal or people results in mass rush to the fence followed by barking.
The kids call my dogs the wolf pack.
A dog with a loud, mean sounding bark is one of the best home defense systems you can have. If he/she doesn’t scare the bad guys away, they at least give you the time you need to put together a welcoming commitee in the caliber of your choice.
I’m too lazy to properly care for a dog (and live in a semi-urban neighborhood); I’d probably opt for the “Beware of the Dog” sign and a huge loaf of plastic dogsh!t for the lawn (to give the impression my “dog” is as big as a horse). I used to care for a friend’s beagle, and that thing could HOWL. It was friendly, but noisy enough so that it sounded like a much bigger dog.
Real dogs can certainly be handy; around here they scrap with raccoons and possums, and will upset a skunk enough so that you’ll smell it for a while.
Probably a better sign, that way you aren’t really broadcasting you have guns someone may want to steal when they know you’re not there.
Shorter: “My Liberal Neighbor is Unarmed”
If I shoot an intruder, there won't be any survivors. The police will only be hearing one story, mine.

Exactly! That’s why I have my Lab/Sharpei cross and “I pity the fool that enters this house” unless invited in.
They only indication you will have of my defensive plans is when you receive it. No point in giving the bad guy advance notice.
Ahhhh I had a white Shar Pei that thought he owned everything as far as his eyes could see. He lived to the ripe age of 12 and broke my heart when he died. He was my big old baby. Still miss him.
"Warning: Driver only carries $10 worth of ammunition"
LOL! There should be a big picture of Ned Beatty beside that one!
