UW Health investigates doctors who wrote sick notes for protesters

UW Health is investigating doctors who wrote medical notes last weekend excusing protesters at the Capitol from work, and the Wisconsin Medical Society has criticized their actions.

“These UW Health physicians were acting on their own and without the knowledge or approval of UW Health,” UW Health said in a statement. “These charges are very serious.”

The UW School of Medicine and Public Health and the UW Medical Foundation, the university’s doctor group, are investigating.

“The investigation will identify which UW Health physicians were involved and whether their behavior constituted violations of medical ethics or University of Wisconsin and UW Health policies and work rules,” the statement said.

“The investigation and any potential future action will follow the established procedures of the University of Wisconsin. Any future disciplinary action taken will be considered a personnel matter, and in accord with University of Wisconsin policies, will not be open to public discussion.”

The Wisconsin Medical Society, the state’s doctor group, said in a statement that it “does not condone these actions under any circumstances.”

“The physician-patient relationship is a cornerstone for providing high quality health care,” the medical society said. “Important elements of that relationship, such as conducting proper medical evaluations of patients, should not be taken lightly.”

The Wisconsin Medical Examining Board has received information about the events, the medical society said.

Dr. Lou Sanner, a family medicine physician at UW Health, told the Associated Press he was one of the doctors involved. He said wrote notes for protesters who were suffering from stress.

“Some people think it’s a nod-and-wink thing, but it’s not,” he told the Associated Press.

DOCTORGATE continue to grow...

Contrary to cynics opinions, Wisconsin authorities are taking this issue seriously. I can't predict how it will come out - and neither can anyone else. But it is definitely not being swept under the carpet.

Good thing! They should investigate for medicaid and medicare fraud too. If they will lie about the sick notes they will lie about other things too.

were suffering from stress.

Oh Brother! We all suffer from stress why don't he/they write all of us excuse notes and just let the whole system collapse because nobody's around to do any work. Let us become a 3rd world country like most overseas because people are out there protesting this that or the other.

It is so much fun to watch liberals learn that there are “rules” and ethics that certain professionals must obey.

Now if only liberal lawyers could be held to a cannon of ethics.......(/sarcasm).

Why do I have the funny feeling that the final report will say “the evidence was inconclusive”?

I disagree. This is just a way of sweeping it under the carpet and hiding behind privacy until the heats off.

If they're serious, then these "Doctors" should lose their licenses to practice like a lawyer would be disbarred.

But political correctness being what it is ...

Outsiders will have a good opportunity to judge the ethics and honesty of the Wisconsin Medical School.

I hope they get a passing grade.

I’d say a three-month suspension, and termination of employment, would be about right.

Probably because that is what you want to happen.

There is a large contingent of vocal libertarians on this who are deeply invested in GOP failure.

The word on the street is that two of the lab coat clad women writing doctor notes were just actors. The notes they wrote are of no value if traced. the Doctor registration numbers were made up

"ethics"

UW Health, don't use words dems don't understand.

Dr. Lou Sanner, a family medicine physician at UW Health, told the Associated Press he was one of the doctors involved. He said wrote notes for protesters who were suffering from stress.

So, Doc, why weren't they at home resting instead of traveling to the capitol? If they were stressed enough to be out of work, they should have been too stressed to go on the road. Do you typically prescribe "go on a road trip and attend a protest rally" to your stressed patients? I think I would have told them, go home and rest. Get a note from your regular doctor.

That sounds like a really lame attempt to cover up after being caught.

Want it to happen? Are you kidding? But this is Madison....liberals. They see things that don’t exist and refuse to see what is right in front of their face.

I imagine the people who are out of work because the unions are sucking up all the resources for themselves are stressed a lot more than these pansies are.

Imagine how this plays out when OweBama is in total control of ALL of America’s doctors. If this were 2012 he would just ORDER the doctors to ‘cover’ his Unionistas. This our last chance to real in the corrupt unions.

If so, the teachers who turn in those notes should be fired for committing fraud. Also, I suspect there are laws against impersonating a physician.
