Good afternoon to you.

Isn't it always that way. Our income goes down and the Commissary / BX / Clothing sales prices go up.

Received this message from DieHard the Hunter this morning but didn’t have a chance to post it....

“Hi, yes we’re OK here in Auckland. Still reeling from the news: my wife and I originally wanted to settle in Christchurch (she is from there and still has relations living in and around the earthquake zone.)

I have three Guardian Angels living in Christchurch whom I have been unable to contact. I suspect it is because telecommunications is crazy right now, am hoping for the best.

We appreciate your prayers — NZ needs them right now. 65 confirmed dead so far, with estimates running around 300+.”

Hi Kathy! Thanks for asking. We're a long way north of the disaster, thankfully.

Here's a link for photos...

http://www.stuff.co.nz

There's billions of dollars in damage with this hit and the one they got on Sept 4 last year. This time round, lives have been lost.

Prayers for your country and the people there. I just posted
a message from a fellow New Zealander right above yours, if
you are interested in reading. He’s fine, too.

,,, thanks to all of you for prayers and kind thoughts as NZL starts on the road to recovery. Initial estimates in damages are around $NZ16b.

Lucius - I've seen very little news in regard to the Hobbit. When shooting was underway for the Lord of the Rings movies I drove past a few of the sets around the Wellington region as I lived there at the time. One was a cliff face in a quarry at the bottom of Haywards Hill, near Lower Hutt. That was impressive.

A friend got the contract to construct a plywood tower, sprayed with concrete stuff, to look like stone. That tower was used in the first movie. I saw that lifted into the woods by helicopter at Kaitoke, north of Upper Hutt from the back of a truck. It's quite a while ago now but Wellington was pretty lively while all that was going on.

I didn’t dare stop at the Exchange, I’d already exceeded our grocery money for the week. Fuel was higher on the base than at Kroger’s! They just reopened the mini mart/gas station after the May flood wiped it out.

Only an idiot with money to burn would shop the Exchange for much of anything...they are now only carrying the High $$ brands like Coach, Vera Bradley, Polo. TP/Paper towels, grooming aids and laundry products are cheaper at the Commissary even with the 5% surcharge.

Ortho doc trip on the schedule for this AM..know that is going to be painful, I’ll put my lortabs in the car for afterwards.

,,, there’s no show without sheep! I think we’re down to just under 40 million of them. There used to be a lot more. There will be more, I know... wool prices are starting to rise really well now.

,,, you're a gem!

US and Brit rescue teams are due in to Christchurch airport in about an hour and a half from now. I heard the leader of an Aussie team commenting on the radio about half an hour ago that they were astonished at the destruction on their way in from the airport. They don't get earthquakes and we don't get bush fires. We all seem to get taxed though.

Funny to mention Schriever AFB. I worked two different contracts there in the past. Good group of people.

Concerning New Zealand. My heart goes to Christchurch. Neat and interesting city. One of my favorite places there when I backpacked there four years ago !
