In this day and age, it is not a “hygene” thing...your pediatrician makes sure to advise you on how to lift your foreskin to assure proper cleaning when in the shower! At least my son’s pediatrician reviewed this with him on several yearly visits. It is a hygene thing for men in countries that have no running water and substandard sanitary conditions all around!

We opted not to have our son circumcised. Our Pediatrician at the time in NJ said their practice was split about 50/50. When we moved to Ohio, his doctor said un-circumcised boys were very rare. Both confirmed it was not medically necessary - just tradition.
