USS Enterprise On Its Way To Libya As America And Britain Ramp Up Threats
Daily Mail ^ | March 1, 2011

Posted on 03/01/2011 4:31:37 AM PST by Fennie

The U.S. Navy was repositioning its heavy-hitting warships around North Africa tonight as America and Britain dramatically increased pressure on Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi.

The aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, which had been on pirate-hunting duty off the coast of Somalia, has now steamed to the mouth of the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.

The deadly strike force aboard the nuclear-powered carrier is already within flying distance of Libya but the Enterprise is said to be heading closer to country and its rogue dictator.

Bwahahaha. Bone dead STUPID!

God, I loved that fighter!

Me too. Sheesh, it's been retired from the Navy now what, nearly 5 years? Yet another example of a so-called journalist that can't be bothered to check his/her facts.

From the article: Still, the Enterprise - with its compliment of F-14 Tomcat fighters - is not the best candidate for a humanitarian aid mission.

Guess it is a good thing She doesn't have any on board then! :-) The big-E's mission isn't to perform the humanitarian aid mission - it is to protect those that do.

""the Enterprise - with its compliment of F-14 Tomcat fighters" Unnamed reporter. Gee I can't imagine why..."

Maybe the reporter got us mixed up with the Iranian air force? :-)

what makes anyone think we will do the right thing here?

Well first of all it's a lot easier...like plucking a hair rather than curing cancer. Almost nobody there wants Gaddafy or his spawn in charge, the mission here is simply to help them accomplish his removal with much less delay and bloodshed. If you had Libyan menfolk in the streets, that would mean a lot to you.

As for the more distant future, that's their business, but if we really don't like the results, we don't have to thaw out those frozen assets.

BTW, Libyans in Mediterranean cities are not anything like Afghanis in mountain fastnesses. If the decision were mine I'd have them form several free cities, some sort of confederation.

Waste of time and fuel with a president everyone knows will sit on his hands.

I know that anti-piracy ops are a secondary function for any naval warship, but to task a carrier strike group with the job is just a huge waste of resources given the Rules of Engagement.

Depends on what the real purpose of the mission is. If it's purely counter-piracy ops I'd agree. However, if the CSG is there for a limited duration and more to conduct "training" in a live environment, it's acceptable.

Like how, in WWII, US carriers steaming out to join the 3rd/5th fleet would detour to go bomb Wake Island.

They need to linger long near Iran and then make a pit stop off the coast of Somalia.

Is sabre rattling really any way for a Nobel Peace Prize laureate to act? I am sorely disappointed in young Miss Soetoro.

A bit off topic...

Does anyone know if one of the carriers in the Med or Gulf is soon to rotate out?

The reason I ask is that a friend of mine is making his first tour. It will be on the USS Ronald Reagan.

The Reagan left San Diego a while back but my friend is still in Florida training. Supposedly he will be transferred to the Reagan in a couple of weeks. They then train in the South Pacific then it's on the the Middle East.

I was able to track down that the carrier was going to the Middle East BUT he wasn't sure. He thinks it's going to be a 6 week(?) tour but if they are headed to the ME I would think it will be at least 3 months, especially if another carrier rotates out.

Obviously I'm not Navy...sigh.

"Somewhere in here is a play that helps get the Soros Telepuppet reelected. Throwing Sargent Pepper Q. Daffy under the bus is a bold ploy that is seemingly inconsistent with his previous support. Must be the Muslim Bro’s made Bambi a better offer. Amnesty from the threatened apostasy trial? 72 virgin Larry Sinclairs in Allah’s heavenly Man’s Country? Perpetual unending supply of ribs and ice cream for Manshelle?"

I think you are on to something here. Also, I think Obama is trying to facilitate the creation of the greater caliphate and these secularist dictators stand in the way of a Mosque lead theocratic alliance spanning from Morocco to Iran.

The Marines still sing about the last time the Enterprise was in Tripoli. http://www.earlyamerica.com/review/2002_winter_spring/terrorism.htm

If Lieutenant Decatur knew about the legacy of the ships, both real and imagined, that bore the name of his command, I am sure he'd be proud.

Gadaffy’s always talked like that and “Washington” has always known it. He’s an opium junkie just like Muhammad was. Lisa Rice? Wasn’t she the one that skipped the Human Rights council meeting for one on global warming??

“Gadhafi has been tied to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s spiritual adviser for more than 23 years.

The Libyan dictator also has financed and strongly supported the Nation of Islam and its leader, Louis Farrakhan. Obama has ties to Farrakhan and his controversial group.”
