Iowa : ‘Birther’ legislation introduced by Sorenson
The Iowa Independent ^ | March 06, 2011 | Jason Hancock

Legislation that would require anyone running for president to produce a birth certificate and make it available for public inspection was introduced this week by state Sen. Kent Sorenson (R-Indianola), however the bill is considered dead this session.

Friday marked the self-imposed funnel deadline for legislation to clear a committee in order to remain eligible for debate this session. Sorenson, a favorite of evangelical conservatives and the tea party movement, introduced the bill Wednesday, and it was assigned to a subcommittee on Thursday, where it remains.

A poll released last month showed that 51 percent of likely 2012 Republican primary voters said they believe President Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. Those who falsely believe that Obama is foreign born and therefore not eligible to serve as president, known as “birthers,” have sparked a flood of legislation similar to Sorenson’s around the nation.

In the last month, bills have appeared in Connecticut, Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, Nebraska, Missouri and Montana that would all require anyone running for elected office to furnish a long-form birth certificate before being declared eligible as a candidate.

Every state should require this, since the FEC doesn’t seem to give a damn.

I can already hear the media screaming about how this is a “racist birther plot” that will disenfranchise women and minorities...

Let em’ scream... the noise will stop once they are gone for good.

The truth is the truth and anyone hiding their birth certificate has got to be hiding the truth in my opinion. Those aiding lies and deceit, or those signing off on lies and deceit, are equally guilty.

I guess this is good news but why did he wait until Wed. to file this and is it already dead because the funnel deadline was not met?

I think it makes a difference in what committee it was assigned BUT the RATS control the Senate and the wild-eyed liberal Majority Leader is not going to allow this thing to pass.

The Republicans should take over the Senate in the next election and then it's bye, bye, Gronstol.

Here we go.

There are only two requirements for being president. Both of them, interestingly, have to do with the date of your birth. We haven’t come across the guy who is 28 years old try to be president, either, but it’s an interesting what-if question - what if someone claimed to be 35 years old but had no proof?

And, of course, this has everything to do with Obama - and the fact that his supporters have a disdain and disregard for the Constitution. Someone who cared would have simply shown the birth certificate ages ago. They don’t care. It’s that simple. We’re at this point in the republic where a significant group of people no longer follow the laws established during the formation of the country. All other arguments are just diversions.

God help us.

Those who falsely believe that Obama is foreign born????

I have two million reasons to believe he hasn’t proven his eligibility.

One of the best “Obama is ineligible” web sites is Birther Report.com”
http://obamareleaseyourrecords.blogspot.com/

The Iowa bill as written would allow Obama to qualify with a short form Certification Of Live Birth issued by the Hawaii Department of Health which is now run by Democrats.

Passing a state voting requirement law that reaffirms an actual Constitutional requirement, is not something that is of interest only to those requesting Obama's birth certificate. It should be of interest to all voters.

“falsely believe that Obama is foreign born and therefore not eligible” ..... That is not the point. This is the point .... Both Parents U.S. Citizens + Born in U.S. = Natural Born Citizen. His alleged father was Kenyan (British Subject) not a U.S. Citizen. Therefore, barry is not Natural Born, and not eligible to be POTUS.

For far too long, the states have "assumed" that the Federal Government properly vetted the candidates' qualifications. 0bama is proof that it does not, and is subject to fraud. Failure of a state to ensure that a candidate meets The Constitutional requirements is to risk disenfranchisement of the voters who vote for that candidate.

Respectfully, the United States Constitution clearly says in;

Article II, Section I ;

QUOTE No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States. UNQUOTE

It is more that just the date of birth as it is a requirement of the Constitution of the United States to be a QUOTE natural born citizen UNQUOTE to be president. Obama has not yet proven his is a natural born citizen.

I have some questions about that.
Is there a clause in the Constitution that spells that out?
Is there a law passed by Congress or a Supreme Court decision that states that two US citizen parents are required in order to be a natural born citizen?
If any of the above are real, why do you think that the US Supreme Court and the Congress refused to act on it?
Why would Chief Justice John Roberts agree to administer the Oath of Office to a person who was constitutionally inelgible? And do it twice?

You mean those in the Republican leadership that undoubtedly know there is something rotten in Denmark?

Sorenson: "Well, I reckon that will keep those dratted Tea Partiers quiet without getting any Democrats too angry! Wouldn't want to get Soetoro/Obama mad enough to cut off any funds!"

Grandma, this was strictly a crowd pleaser ... a little pro-forma schedazzle. Do call when the bill gets from sub-committee, to committee, to the floor, is passed, and is signed by the Governor. BTW, all the Hawaiian Birth Certificates in the world are not going to make The Mombasa Moonbeam a "Natural Born Citizen."

Hey, thanks for your precison on the matter. I was trying to be in agreement with people who point out, quite reasonably, that you should have to prove when (age requirement) and where (natural born requirement) you were born. Guess I didn’t express that very well.

I had forgotten about that other bit concerning being a resident within the United States for 14 years. The founders sure were concerned about outsiders coming in and doing us harm.

Thanks again.

And how long did it take this nation to forget? Only a generation or two? Maybe just ONE generation? Reagan was right.
