Gingrich: Love of country contributed to affair
The Daily Caller ^ | 3/09/11 | Shannon McCaffrey

Posted on 03/09/2011 3:13:24 PM PST by Do Not Make Fun Of His Ears

ATLANTA (AP) — Newt Gingrich says his passion for his country contributed to his marital infidelity. In an interview posted Wednesday by The Christian Broadcasting Network, Gingrich — who recently converted to Catholicism — said he had sought God’s forgiveness for mistakes in his past.

“There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate,” Gingrich said.

“What I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn’t trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them,” he said. “I found that I felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness. Not God’s understanding, but God’s forgiveness.”

"I was working SO HARD and loved my country SO MUCH that I had an affair."

Forgiveness is real and necessary.

But is this may be a LITTLE too much baggage to bring into a campaign.

What say y'all?

I would vote for ANY Republican over Obozo, however.

Just asking.

Gingrich is a trap.

Thoughts for the day

Republicans win in 2012. They are going to try very hard to force an insider candidate like Gingrich or Romney on us.

Conservatives are kept too busy. Downsize some, and give a day a week to joining/starting Tea Party action groups if you really want things to change.

Get rid of the TV. Even the most aware people are swallowing subtle propaganda through the TV.

Muslim atrocities in the USA are sure to punctuate the next few years. When they occur, try to open the public debate about muslim immigration. With each new muslim atrocity, the level of public discussion about the issue deserves to increase.

You got that right. Newt is a genius who will better serve us by churning out ideas. I have not heard anything from him against the New World Order or economic globalization. I no longer believe in unfettered free trade; he does.

NO, Newt. Didn’t buy it then, don’t buy it now, won’t buy it anytime in the future. The biggest betrayal of all was when you sat with Nanny Pelosi and shared your true feelings about global warming.....you sold yourself out....and you continue to on anything at any time. Character counts, and yours is forever compromised.

Your ego keeps growing.......sadly, it’s inflated with hot air and bound to implode soon.

There will be at leat one running again.

If the Republicans run one, it will be theirs, and if not they chose to try to win without those of us who will not vote for a liberal again.

I won’t vote for a liberal no matter what brand name it is.

Yep, that dude is a freakin' genius! So much so he's already been run out of town once. Believe Newt at your own peril......

This has to be one of the all time best lines I have ever heard! It's on a par with “haven't we met before”? Gotta love ole Nute. I refuse to compromise on any more RINOs. If the GOP is stupid enough to put one up again like they did with Juan McLame four years ago, then we deserve another Obama term.

The U.S., in it's more than 200 year history, has had many people serving in Government that have skeleton’s in their closet. The question is whether their private behavior interferes with their public duties. Considering the baggage Obozo copped to during his campaign (using cocaine for one), it would appear that someone's past behavior is no longer a disqualifier to their being elected. Who knows whether Gingrich's past will haunt his future?
