Checkout the Drudge Report, then kiss you arse goodbye ...
RESIDUAL heat! So, pulling the fuel rods from the reactor core would not help!
Nah that language came from an anti nuke group and the mainstream media ran with it.
My understanding is that u just can’t pull the rods like that...but to be honest I am not familiar enough with the process to state without hesitation, why that is.
I hate when that happens ... a perfectly cogent post and then one little typo ... ;-)
did the looters steal them? Oh, wait, they have morals & values over there.
Good point. I have heard of instances where data centers filled the tanks and never took into account weekly/monthly tests of the generators or a few 5 minute outages. When a prolonged outage occurred that two day supply of fuel had been reduced to a few hours.
Hopefully it was not poor management and they will get the reactors safely under control soon.
One of the negative consequences of over-regulation by environmentalists and zoning departments are these very large plants instead of smaller plants spread out and able to transfer their load if one fails.
Check out budhabaier post.
“You aint kidding. Try around 7000 kw each. Two stories tall.”
I posted they are larger than railroad flat cars to give you an approximate size. They’re not portable.
Thats 40 tons of steel, just gone. And it isnt as tho theres a lake or other deep body of water downstream, either. The stream that filled the dam isnt a huge flow. They found one of the D-8s sticking out of the mud downstream, but the other one just disappeared.
Nah, it was last seen trailered down I-35 to Mexico.

According to TEPC, as of now all 4 Fukushima Daini reactors are subcritical and stable....and all Fukushima Daiichi reactors are shut down.

Thanks - major long half life...
I tried that again, did it thru firefox then explorer, my laptop just does not get it. ;) Thanks again for links.
thanks meatloaf. if someone has no experience with such things, it’s nice to be given a visual perspective.
I understand Japan is trying to get as much L N G brought in as they can so they can run conventional L N G/Diesel generators. Tokyo has been told there are going to be rolling brown/blackouts for three hours at a time, 3 times a day, starting today to conserve electricity. There is little to no electric power at all in the north and innovative folks are using car batteries with inverters to charge cell phones. Some cell towers have been damaged but the rest have solar and backup batteries - as long as the sun is shining they can communicate.
In Tokyo, the earthquakes were very frequent through the night and are continuing through today. Tsunami warnings continue. This from a relative in downtown Tokyo. He confirms that parts of the island in the north have redacted into the sea. He says each time they get a quake over 6.0, the building has to be evacuated and checked for safety reasons, and he said he’s been up and down the stairs several times over the night.
None of this sounds good - this earthquake is turning into a multi-day ongoing swarm of earthquakes and that can’t help but complicate things mightily.
