UCLA Student Posts Video Rant on Asians

ANGELES – LOS ANGELES -- The chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles said Monday he was "appalled by the thoughtless and hurtful comments" that a white student made about her Asian classmates in a video that has drawn national attention.

Alexandra Wallace posted a three-minute rant on YouTube called "Asians in the Library," in which she criticizes the school for accepting "these hordes of Asian people" who she said have no manners and invite their extended family to visit on the weekends. The UCLA political science student also faulted Asian students for disrupting her studies at the library by calling family members in the wake of the tsunami.

"I'll be in, like, deep into my studying, into my political science theories and arguments and all that stuff, getting it all down, like typing away furiously, blah, blah, blah, and then all of a sudden when I'm about to, like, reach an epiphany, overhear from somewhere, `Oh ching chong ling long ting tong, ooohh," she said.

She won’t have any of her self-expression rights violated. She won’t be arrested or imprisoned. And since UCLA is a public university, they’d open themselves up to a lawsuit if they try to do anything to her either. Although, she’ll probably accept any punishment meekly. I’m sure she’ll continue analogizing like crazy. But actions have consequences and she’ll certainly be mocked and ridiculed for being a major league bimbo. This is one of those things that can seriously hamper one’s ability to get a job. Look what happened to that idiot duck guy from Aflac. Luckily for her, she picked on Asians so the political correctness police might not go after her too much.

“Some cultures are more protected than others...”

You hit the nail on the head! Asians are considered “fair game” since they work hard, usually have a high G.P.A. etc... I wonder if this student did a rant about, oh, let’s say black students... would it get pulled?

She's upset because the girl ordered a hand-tossed mushroom and pepperoni with a side of cheesy breadsticks?

We have an Asian engineer at work who got almost straight A’s at school. Unfortunately he was only good at memorizing data for tests. As an engineer he is hopelessly incompetent. So he’s slated for management now. Can’t fire him because of the quota system that they keep telling us doesn’t exist.

Interesting that “a white student” is pointed out. Would the offense be as egregious if it were a Black or Hispanic student?

Asians are not considered colonized/oppressed by Whites by the Lefties, although they are “people of color”.

I more or less agree with you. I have no issue with having lots of Asian students at the Big U (as we called UCLA back in the '70s when I was there in grad school): most of them have a strong work ethic and excel academically. And, academics is what the university is (and ought to be) about.

That said, students of any background who behave rudely and make noise in the library should be summarily ejected from the library - and perhaps should have their library use privileges suspended for some weeks.

On the laundry room, surprisingly, I can also sympathize. At least back in the day, the laundry room in some dorms at UCLA was free, or cost a fraction of commercial launderettes. A couple of friends who lived in these dorms said that the families of some students came and used them for the entire family's laundry, not just the students, making it impossible to get a machine on weekends.

Students who come to the university from 'diverse' backgrounds for what the university has to offer them, should conform to the university's standards and behaviors, rather than seeking to impose their own.

It is highly likely that no one on this website really knows anything at all about this young woman; I certainly do not. I must admit I’m a bit dismayed by the rush of gratuitously disparaging remarks posted about her.

This is not about an immature individual or the appropriateness of her remarks. The real issue is once again the active and immediate response of “the Brain Police”, who do not brook any departure from their approved groupthink model. This woman will be excoriated and castigated for simply speaking her mind in a public forum.

Welcome to the American intellectual police state.

Strictly my opinion, of course.

“White Shaniqua”

Congratulations: Best characterization yet.

1) Is this person the caliber of individual that is a student at UCLA? Wow. I thought that school was an elite school, but her entire demeanor and mannerisms are SOoooo "ghetto".
2) If she is an example of a soon-to-be-college-graduate (future manager/executive/etc.), our economy will not be leading the world for long.
3) She has a legitimate complaint - people talking loudly on their cell phones in the library. However, she is going to get raked over the coals because of the format and manner of her complaint.

Asians are not considered colonized/oppressed by Whites by the Lefties, although they are “people of color”.

Which is an interesting sociological fact; looking at the history of the railroads and how they were built, the way the Chinese were brought here to build them is barely any less exploitative than the way other groups were brought over. Maybe it's a cultural thing--the original immigrants didn't teach their children to be perpetual victims.
