Mitt’s backers: ‘RomneyCare’ overblown [DeMint defends Romney & his socialized medicine scheme]
The Hill ^ | March 17, 2011 | Michael O’Brien

Mitt Romney’s supporters on Capitol Hill are giving him political cover for the healthcare plan he signed into law as governor, even as his competitors for the GOP presidential nomination ramp up their attacks on “RomneyCare.”

Romney’s healthcare reform initiative in Massachusetts is viewed as one of his biggest political liabilities going into the Republican primary, due to its similarities to President Obama’s healthcare overhaul.

But leading conservatives, including supporters of Romney during his 2008 presidential run, argue that the Massachusetts plan isn’t a deal-breaker.

“One of the reasons I endorsed Romney [in 2008] is his attempts to make private health insurance available at affordable prices,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), a GOP kingmaker.

Everyone's entitled to one mistake. And boy, was that DeMint's.

DeMint already backtracked on this, sorry, I'm not biting on this and neither should you.

He's been a good conservative senator, until he stops consistently being conservative I'm not throwing him under the bus.

Ooops. Never mind ;-)

If he’s still making excuses for government meddling in health care of any sort, his problem is not in the past. And it ain’t just his endorsement of the most liberal Governor in the history of the planet. I’m just sayin’.

DeMint supporte the "green energy" premise, too, doesn't he? The whole global "health of the planet" concern platform?

Let him stay a senator if he's so damned great. Keep him the hell out of the White House and away from the tea party Republicans' attempt to RECLAIM and HOLD HIGH the banner of "The Party of Getting the Government the Hell Off Your Back" for their fellow Americans, a majority of whom are desperate for a party that will do it.

All Romney can do is make voters (real voters, we real people, not manufactured entities that elect liberals, but real voters) even more cynical than they are now.

Romney is a vampire and needs a stake driven through his political heart. Should have happened years ago.

That guy has been an embarrassment to this forum for years now. He’s been given chance, after chance, after chance, and every time, he’s broken his promises to behave.

His zot was long overdue, in my opinion. Good riddance.

Well, there have been more liberal governors than Myth. They just didn’t claim to be Republicans. Yet, I don’t care for DeMint, whom I otherwise respect, missing a core conservative principle like this one.

Sounds like SOMEbody is angling for a Vice-Presidential bid.

If the media go after his mormonism, it will be for the purpose of splitting the Republicans.

Won’t work on me, because I won’t vote for him. Period. I still get sick at my stomach thinking of the day in 2008 that I voted for McCain. Never again.

Could be. Senators are funny that way.

They’re also delusional enough to believe that somehow DeMint could deliver conservative votes to Romney.
