Western allies stepped up military pressure against Moammar Gadhafi, sending warships and fighter planes to the region to enforce a U.N. authorized no-fly zone, even as Libyan forces shelled a rebel-held city despite declaring a cease-fire.
President Barack Obama demanded Friday that Gadhafi halt military assaults against civilians and said that if the Libyan leader did not stand down the United States would join in military action against him.

It looks like UN international law and 0bama have declared that nations are no longer allowed to defend themselves from rebels. Why are the demonstrators not referred to as insurgent?
If it ever gets bad enough here that The People will revolt will the UN and a coalition of nations step in and help 0bama retain control?
Gaddafi will shove a grenade up Zero’s ass before he’s done. Thanks illiac.
Don’t make me warn you again.
This puts me in an awful place. I always support our troops in harms way but we should stay out of this. I’d like to see Gaddafi prefail against these unknown “freedom fighters”. So I am rooting for him and not us unfortunately and just hope our boys stay out of the way.
Good point, and I think that the answer is likely, "Yes".
We used to fight under the auspices of "preventing communism from taking over", then it became "preventing terrorists from taking over" -- all military actions never declared as "wars" approved by Congress, as required by our Constitution. In reality, each time and each action we diminished the idea of national sovereignty and most Americans didn't care as long as the sovereignty breached was not our own. But each time, we were really giving more power to the UN and NATO to determine and carry out our foreign policy. Just how long does anyone think it will be before all that offloaded power will be turned against us?
Gaddafi is a rotten bastard, but there is absolutely nothing in America's interest to get involved in Libya. We won't be thanked for it, we'll just get kicked in the head. And who knows? What might take the reins post Gaddafi could be worse than Gaddafi in terms of our national interests.
“Or else what?”
“I won’t like you anymore.”
The rebels crumble while Obamario bumbles.
If Obama reaches Triple Dog Dare, Kadaffi better really watch out.
I must be visiting from an alternate dimension.
Civilians become combatants the minute they take up arms.
There is no upside to supporting one group of ragheads over the other unless the deal is for reduced price oil, which is NOT going to happen, because the Obama Administration is communist and full of America hating jihadi sympathizers who are using the No Fly Zone to provide a distraction from the commie in chiefs horrendous foreign and domestic policies, not to benefit the citizens of the USA.
The minute this jug eared muslim communist foreigner and his comrades are sent packing from the WH and a REAL AMERICAN POTUS TAKES POWER, the muhammadans worldwide including those subhuman Saudi Arabians are going to be called to account for 9/11 and be made to pay reparations in the form of stable and low oil prices, or else.
Lets see 50,000 right wing activists march on DC , Richmond, and Jefferson City with guns, and then lets see how that communist faggot and that evil vile disgusting bitch SHRILLARY react any differently than any other head of state facing an armed insurrection, including Lincoln.
Don’t make us have another meeting!
I hate the U.N. and think as a rule any and everyone of its edicts should be resisted.
For anyone interested, here is the text of the UN Resolution: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs//2011/sc10200.doc.htm
...you could even take a couple of beers along to help smooth things over!
Make sure he takes his Blackberry.....
Load up the meeting GPS coordinates....
Being fluent in Obonics, I can translate this:
Go for it, Mo. We both know if I could get away with doing to the Tea Partiers what you're doing to your citizens I'd do it in a heartbeat.
