Officials: US Missile Attack On Libya Prepared
Breitbart ^ | March 19, 2011 | By Robert Burns

Posted on 03/19/2011 10:49:28 AM PDT by Strategy

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. prepared to launch a missile attack on Libyan air defenses, but American ships and aircraft stationed in and around the Mediterranean Sea did not participate in initial French air missions Saturday, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the unfolding intervention.

One official said the U.S. intends to limit its involvement - at least in the initial stages - to helping protect French and other air missions by taking out Libyan air defenses.

An attack against those defenses with Navy sea-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles was planned for later Saturday, one official said. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of military operations.

For decades, the UN and lefties were OK with Gaddafi. Now suddenly he must be run out of town? Why him and not Iran’s Ahmadinejad? They both had protestors in the streets.

So, we`re going to fire missiles into Libya and break a lot of their stuff and kill some Libyans.

OK, fine. Then what?

...whoops.. we didn`t plan that far ahead.

Jeez, guys- has everyone forgotten that Quadaffi personally ordered the murders of hundreds of Americans at Lockerbie?

My main problem with Obama’s handling of this is that he seems to be acting in his typically pansy and politically calculating way- using missiles so no there’s no political risk of our losing pilots.

I have no problem at all with stopping a known terrorist using military means.

"Jeez, guys- has everyone forgotten that Quadaffi personally ordered the murders of hundreds of Americans at Lockerbie?"

I haven't forgotten. My point is, if a Republican president was doing this, the LibDems would be going absolutely apeshirt and foaming at the mouth in opposition. Team Obama acquiesced to an early release of the Lockerbie bomber, without so much as a whimper.

According to Hitlery he doesn’t need Congress.

But ofcourse her hubby Bubba violated it routinely.

The War Powers Resolution (WPR) was an act passed by Congress in 1973, over President Richard Nixon’s veto, to “insure that the collective judgment of both the Congress and the President will apply to the introduction of United States armed forces into hostilities.” The War Powers Resolution restricted Presidential war making to situations in which Congress had declared war or had given the President specific permission to use the armed forces in hostilities or in which the nation, its territories, possessions, or armed forces had been attacked.

Trick question, I expect we are, just like we are sending several hundred million dollars to Tunisia, per Hillary Clinton, and I bet we are send more money to Egypt, as well.

Obama is consistent regarding his administration's Mid-East Policy. The Muslim Brotherhood, which has access to Obama whenever needed, must be protected at all cost because Hussein Obama clearly believes the only problems in the Middle East are Arabs with aspirations for real freedom and the existence of Israel.

That said it is very interesting to watch Hillary play POTUS in Paris while the empty suit is stumble bumming in Brazil without his teleprompter.

I favor letting muslims kill other muslims, whenever and wherever they desire.

Sticking our noses into it gets us unnecessarily involved.

The opposition may make Gadaffi look good, by comparison.

‘but American ships and aircraft stationed in and around the Mediterranean Sea did not participate in initial French air missions Saturday,’-

Now THAT is some spectacular spin.

‘initial’ air missions? What was the first air mission, taking pictures? Oh so the first plane that flew over wasn’t an American one? What about the second one? Who shot the first missile?

Obamamedia on the job.

"he opposition may make Gadaffi look good, by comparison."

But that won't be reported by our State Run Media which will parrot the official line; just like Hillary Clinton said that coalition forces would fire on Qaddafi forces firing on civilians. What's a civilian? I suspect a civilian is anyone not a Qaddafi loyalist, including those with their own tanks, planes and helicopters firing on the Libyan military.

Isn’t there a general rule that in war you don’t announce your plans in advance to the Associated Press? What is going on here?

It's the "progressive" way to wage war - speak firmly and say you're going to lay a whipping out, then fold once the bluff is called.

Of course, the flip side is that "progressives" will leak national security secrets to sabotage this Nation because they hate it so much.

European countries depend on Libyan oil (mostly Italy, at 32% of Libya’s exports: 425,000 barrels a day).
