European and US airstrikes continued to pound Libyan military positions Sunday for the second day of "Operation Odyssey Dawn, hours after Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi promised a long war from an undisclosed bunker.

"We are ready for a long war. You are not prepared for a long war in Libya. We are prepared. This is a very happy moment we are living," Qadaffi said Sunday in an address on state TV, adding the leaders of the West would fall like Hitler Mussolini.
After French jets destroyed four Libyan tanks outside the de facto rebel capital of Benghazi on Saturday, according to French defense sources, Qaddafi promised to attack Mediterranean targets. His defiance of UN Resolution 1973 comes as European and American leaders back off calls for the strongman's ouster.
Will West let Qaddafi stay in power?
French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe Sunday said coalition military operations will continue in the days to come, until the Libyan regime accepts the UN resolution, but he added that the ouster of the 41-year-ruler was not the signal purpose.
Qaddafi staying in power is "certainly potentially one outcome," Admiral Mullen told NBC's "Meet the Press," adding that the UN-approved airstrikes "are limited and it isn't about seeing him go."
Pentagon officials and the White House are at pains to describe the UN-sanctioned venture as a European-led operation to save the lives of Libyans.
Speaking from Brazil on Saturday night, President Obama described the attacks as a limited military action employing a broad coalition that is European led, and that the decision to go ahead is not an outcome we sought

so this means that we can get intervention to remove Hussein?
After what we started yesterday in Libya. If Gadaffi is left in power we can most likely expect to see renewed terrorism coming out of Libya. I think you’ll see Gadaffi quit the war against Al Qaeda and try to appease Al Qaeda with financial support and anything else he can give them. For him it’s survival.
Libya was one of the un-named nations helping in the war against Al Qaeda.
IMO it’s all about the UN, and advancing the World Power of the UN. Nothing else period, and that’s why they are stumbling in explaining this action.
Reagan would have stopped the whole thing in a day’s time...
Reagan had justification back in the eighties.
Kind of reminds me of the first war by Bush the elder when he didn’t take out Saddam and it was left to G.W.
There is always some terrible group or person out there that needs to be taken out.
For example, the 32 year dictator of Yemen is killing scores of protesters every day. Check out the recent videos of Bahrains security forces repeatedly running over corpses of protesters and doing drive by shootings.
Do you see that on the MSM?
A non-US airplane will get shot down soon. All the EU/UN people will pull out and the US will be left to hold down the “no-winning-zone” for the next umpteen years all by ourselves.
Guaranteed.
Has Yemen oil?
Under “UN control,” of course.
Only difference was that Saddam had not volunteered to quit his WMD and invite the UK to come and take them away like Gadaffi did. Saddam was appeasing Al Qaeda while Gadaffi had been participating in the war against Al Qaeda.
Of course since yesterday this will change. Thanks to the US action, Gadaffi's military is weaker. He may be forced to appease Al Qaeda in any way he can to maintain his power.
In the meantime, this is too tempting...

Qaddafi loyalists form human shield around his compound.
Baghdad Bob is still alive?
Naturally. Barry will be in the Bahamas or somewhere playing golf.
BTW, Unlike Bush, Obama NEVER consulted congress on this action.
Chaotic foreign policy. Oh for the moral clarity of GWB.
You’re right. He TOLD them what HE was going to do, in concert with his UN bosses.
Will Congress vote against this illegal action?
