U.S. Africa Command ^ | Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Posted on 03/22/2011 4:27:12 AM PDT by kristinn

USS MOUNT WHITNEY, Mediterranean Sea, Mar 22, 2011 — Two crew members ejected from their U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle when the aircraft experienced equipment malfunction over northeast Libya, March 21, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m. CET.

Both crew members ejected and are safe.

The aircraft, based out of Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, was flying out of Aviano Air Base in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn at the time of the incident.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

The identities will be released after the next of kin have been notified.

Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn is the U.S. Africa Command task force established to provide operational and tactical command and control of U.S. military forces supporting the international response to the unrest in Libya and enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1973. UNSCR 1973 authorizes all necessary measures to protect civilians in Libya under threat of attack by Qadhafi regime forces.

“The identities will be released after the next of kin have been notified. “

Next of kin? Kinda the wrong context for that isn’t it.

You don't usually notify next of kin of they're alive.

I’d want to be notified if this happened to someone in my family, before it appears on TV.

It’ll be good to hear them once they’re back home—nice to know who these ‘rebels’ are that we’re fighting for.

You do in the event they are in hostile territory and not in our hands. The rebels are not part of “our” hands, especially since they are supported by the Muslim Brotherhood and now AQ.

NBC reports one crew member was rescued by U.S. search and resue, the other by rebels. The other crew member is in the process of being picked up by U.S. search and rescue.

Mechanical failure is being blamed for the crash east of Benghazi with the pilot and crew member safely ejecting.

F-15E Strike Eagle cost = $32 million in 1998, in 2011 close to $100 million to replace.

But i guess they do “love” us at the moment because we are doing their work right now.
Of course this will change the moment we are done helping them to get the power.

I hope we are savvy enough to nuke the remains of the aircraft so the Chicoms have to work harder to steal the technology.

These aircraft have had the crap flow out of them. We should have taken up Boeing’s offer to build new ones for $68mm a copy.

Terrible, criminal to send our best young men to war without the best equipment money can buy.

The F-15E is old enough that Slick Willie probably already sold them the technology, or they’ve stolen it. The E variant first flew in 1986.

I doubt there is much left.

I wonder if the malfunction had anything to do with being hit by a missile or cannon fire.

Are you serious? The Chicoms already have all of the technology, the five-axis milling machines to build it and the training to operate it. Twenty-plus years of unimpeded if not assisted spying, ten of which we know they had/have direct links to the White House for access to anything. Our "friends" in Germany and Israel have gladly sold China our technology and our universities are training up the next generation of Chicoms to understand and implement the advanced machine learning principles to guide robotics and cyber warfare.

Sadly, we are getting to the point where we need to spy on the Chinese for the next generation of gear. Not that it would really benefit the West much - we closed down our mines and factories years ago, and lost the cyber war when we let Google track and control everything else.

A future similar incident is US how ground actions will initiate.

Especially when we have a female pilot taken, sitting on qaddafi's lap on a live cnn broadcast with boulf blitzer straighting quadfers robes and telling the bitch to suck it up before going live.

This was likely a technical incident, or will necessarily be related as such.

We need to get out of this particular theater, there is nothing there for us but liability and embarrassment.

Same thing happened with our Carter Admn. helicopters

RATS in control means our military equipment is out of control.

A F-15 is not one of our high-tech stealth aircraft. The role of tank killer would be more appropriate. Going down in North East Libya would seem to confirm that. Unless GDaffi’s forces have defense installations in that area.

The Arab league wants nutter to stop then let them do it for crying out loud

I imagine the anti war crowd will be protesting like mad over a 3rd war, oh wait their messiah started this while on vacation with his mother in law on our dime and never got permission from congress and then carried on with his vacation with family and MOTHER IN LAW

WTH is she doing there and why are we paying for her vacations and to live in the white house, have free food, no bills etc?

No matter the world is in turmoil but hey fat arse gets a vacation AGAIN.

They do notify next of kin if you’ve just been shot down by hostile forces. Nothing unusual about that at all.

Good thing they were picked up by the rebels....what would Premier Hussein do if that had been an American crew, and were captured by Kadaffy??

Better yet, what happens after Premier Hussein summarily withdraws all US Forces from Libya, and one of the coalition aircraft gets shot down and the crew captured. What then??

In Iraq female pilots had both arms and legs broken (maybe on ejection) and were repeatedly raped.

Behind him his F15 Strike Eagle was a burning wreck. He had parachuted into a field of sheep somewhere near Benghazi airbase and needed to escape - his fellow crew member had landed in another field nearby.

Raising his hands in the air he called out "OK, OK" to greet the crowd. But he need not have worried.

"I hugged him and said don't be scared we are your friends," said Younis Amruni, 27.

A queue formed to shake the hand of the airman, as locals thanked him for his role in the attacks.

nail on head

One poster just made a post, forget their name that the anti war right is now picking up.

Funny how the left pick and choose their wars.
Iraq 17 UN resolutions and years of ignoring them
Bush went to Congress and got the votes

Obama goes on vacation , takes family, takes MOTHER IN LAW ON OUR DIME WTH.
One resolution ignored in 24 hours.
Wages war from Rio and then sends a letter from his vacation to congress after he has wages war and attacked

it is staggering how the far left and anti war smelly hippies are hypocritical and that goes for the corrupt media who are spinning this for obama.

FOX for instance.
Plane goes down now if Bush had been on the report would have said .
“US plane goes down”

Because obama is in charge then the report is”US plane crashed due to mechanical problems”

2ND headline makes it clear it was not shot down but the first could be making people ask was it shot down.

Still Bill Hemmer and FOX plus others are happy because their 401k’s are going up and to them that is all what matters
They’re like little kids being taken to a candy shop right now, smiling an giggling but ignore the laws and what obama has done
