'Al-Qaeda snatched missiles' in Libya

From correspondents in Paris From: AFP March 26, 2011 1:03PM

AL-QAEDA'S offshoot in North Africa has snatched surface-to-air missiles from an arsenal in Libya during the civil strife there, Chad's President says.

Idriss Deby Itno did not say how many surface-to-air missiles were stolen, but told the African weekly Jeune Afrique that he was "100 per cent sure" of his assertion.

"The Islamists of al-Qaeda took advantage of the pillaging of arsenals in the rebel zone to acquire arms, including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries in Tenere," a desert region of the Sahara that stretches from northeast Niger to western Chad, Deby said in the interview.

"This is very serious. AQIM is becoming a genuine army, the best equipped in the region," he said.

His claim was echoed by officials in other countries in the region who said that they were worried that al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) might have acquired "heavy weapons", thanks to the insurrection.

Hmmm, how easy would it be to smuggle them into the US in the midst of (say) truckloads of illegal aliens, or bales of various narcotics?

Almost makes you wonder if Janet Incompetano and Teh One *want* it to happen. /sarc>

Put this piece with this piece - and whadda ya got? This other piece tells the HOW and WHO.

excerpt from the piece posted here:

http://vladtepesblog.com/?p=30793

“worried that al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) might have acquired “heavy weapons”,” (This is spelled out in the article above)

“Deby said in the interview.

“This is very serious. AQIM is becoming a genuine army, the best equipped in the region,”

“Chad's president backed the assertion by his neighbour and erstwhile enemy Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi that the protests in Libya have been driven in part by al-Qaeda.

“There is a partial truth in what he says,” Deby said.

“Up to what point? I don't know. But I am certain that AQIM took an active part in the uprising....”
“It could have heavy consequences for the stability of the region and the spread of terrorism in Europe, the Mediterranean and the rest of Africa,” he cautioned.

Gee, ya think?

I can give you another shining example of our so-called CIC handing OUR weapons - ammo, missiles, rockets, thousand of gallons of gas - TOTALLY unnecessary, to the Taliban...who is has been protecting since almost day one - with his new ROE which have resulted in DOUBLE the number of our troop KIA from the first month. (wheres the MSM now?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WamBeYQeRvE

Here's one example where the Taliban's friend in the WH just abandoned a firebase and didn't let the troops destroy the weapons - He just pulled them out, after they had kept the Taliban at bay - blocking their route from Pakistan to the rest of Afghanistan. The Taliban didn't drive them out - the CIC pulled them out. Our media was very quiet on this.

I thought Al-Qaeda was our enemy. You know, like 9/11 and all? Moammar Gadhafi, has been inert for decades. Now it seems that Al-Qaeda is chuckling over our efforts on their behalf in Libya.

And come to find, Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the 'rebel' leader, is a jihadi who fought us in Afghanstan, and is sympathetic to Al-Qaeda.

The MSM will assiduously avoid reporting all this.

Obama will be pleased.

Why do you think he acted so quickly - not only illegally by not going through our congress - but going beyond the UN/allies okay for a "no fly"? ("No fly" doesn't mean bombing the he*l out of a country.)

The 'lives' he wanted to save? Perhaps those he's in sympathy with? Al Qaeda?

He had to act quickly to aid their escape with the weapons?

Let's see, he got Mubarak kicked out - one of our staunched allies in the ME - while everyone pooh-poohed there was any threat of the Muslim Brotherhood taking over. And if you didn't believe the hype, you could ask The Won's Muslim Brotherhood guy who is a memeber of his inner circle in the WH.

Now, it seems, the Muslim Brotherhood is poised for a good shot at taking over Egypt.

If they get Egypt and Libya - well, take a look a the map. Pretty good base to reestablish the Caliphate, eh wot?

And maybe with Tripoli as the capitol - deja vu? ARe we going to be fighting The Barbary Coast all over again?

Check out the history of the Fatimid Caliphate.

The greatest Islamic Caliphate and the least well-known to Westerners.

One thousand years ago they ruled Egypt, and yes, they took over first from Sardinia and North Africa.

However, they were totally opposed to the Islamists, often assassinating them.

Is the president of Chad and the other African leaders some of those who have been supplying mercenaries to Qadaffi? Are they just spouting the line that Q is using to try to wiggle out of his mess. Q spent a lot of time and money courting the African countries to the south of Libya with a goal of being the leader of a larger Northern African confederation. Don’t believe everything you read. Here is the latest post from AOL News, I don’t necessarily believe everything I read there either.

On FOX News this morning Norman R. Augustine the retired chairman and chief executive officer of the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the nation’s largest defense contractor, told Neal Cavuto:

“Airpower alone will not be successful and boots on ground will be needed.”

Obama: No U.S. Forces on the Ground in Libya . . . Except for Those Guys.
By Jim Geraghty
Posted on March 23, 2011 3:46 PM

NPR: “President Obama said Wednesday it was ‘absolutely’ out of the question that U.S. ground forces would be used in Libya.”

How would the president describe the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit? There is no such thing as a purely air-based combat mission; planes have problems and pilots end up on the ground, and then U.S. forces have to end up on the ground, hopefully briefly, to rescue them and bring them home safely. Ask Scott O’Grady how much time you can spend on the ground while patrolling a no-fly zone.

Details on the recent rescue:

The Kearsarge then sent up two MV-22 Ospreys carrying Marine rescue teams. As they were en route, the Harriers dropped two laser-guided bombs near the crash site, apparently to keep Libyans on the ground from approaching the pilot.

With additional helicopters hovering overhead for security, one of the Ospreys landed and picked up the pilot. He was then taken aboard the Kearsarge.

The weapons systems officer was recovered by what U.S. officials described as Libyan opposition forces. He is safe, officials have said.

There are about 2,200 Marines off the shore of Libya right now. http://www.nationalreview.com/blogs/print/262910

Are U.S. Troops Already on the Ground in Libya? | O’Reilly Factor

Special Guests | Col. David Hunt & Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer

RET. COL. DAVID HUNT, U.S. ARMY: Yes, absolutely. You’ve got British service been in there about three weeks ago and actually got captured and released. The French GIGN have been in there and our special forces and our U.S. intelligence operatives and their assets. We do not conduct operations like this, large scale air operations, without people on the ground. They have been very successful, very good, not a lot of contact with the rebels because you don’t know who to talk to. But, yes, we have got intel gathering and rescue guys and special operations guys on the ground, have had them for about 12 days.

O’REILLY: Now, do you agree with that, Col. Shaffer?

LT. COL. TONY SHAFFER, FORMER ARMY INTELLIGENCE OFFICER: Yes, I have heard from my sources — I got a call from one of my key sources on Monday and that’s exactly what’s going on. Let’s be really clear here. You have got to have these individuals doing what Dave just said, especially when you are talking about trying to protect, and the stated goal here, Bill, is humanitarian support. So you don’t want to have weapons hitting the wrong targets. So, Dave is very good on the fact that we have special operations guys sitting there with laser designators. Bill, you saw…

Russian-made SA-5s, shoulder-launched K38 Igla9s (SA-18) missiles mounted on Italian Ivaco trucks also - along with all his other stock piles of advanced weapons which he stocked up on prior to Obizmal and Soros “Responsibility to Protect” operation.

What other missiles Q had is unknown, but they were the very expensive ‘good’ kind and lots of them. Check with the local Russian arms merchants for further info.

Obama will be pleased.

Why do you think he acted so quickly

Because of stupidity. Because, in foreign affairs, Barack Obama is totally clueless. Because Barack Obama never bothered to do his homework and educate himself. Because Barack Obama was an Affirmative Action candidate that too many irrational people gushed over because of the way he looked and sounded instead of what he knew and you can't realistically expect anything but FUBAR's from such a President.

Barack Obama got into the "Let's overthrow Gadhafi" chess game without ever bothering to study what would happen beyond the first move of "Pawn to King 4".

Barack Obama had not thought out the chess game beyond the extremely naïve notion that you can:

1.) Topple Gadhafi so that

2.) America can then Cut & Run so that

3.) The Democracy Fairy can wave her Magic Wand and everybody lives happily ever after

The three major problems with that childishly naïve lunacy is that:

1.) There is no such thing as a Democarcy Fairy

2.) In all of military history, air power has never, ever, secured a single square mile of territory. To secure territorry, you need "boots on the ground". The 8th Air Force may have flattened East Berlin in World War II but East Berlin became Communist because, after the bombing, it was the Soviets with "boots on the ground" there.

3.) The one warring faction that is pouring fighters into Libya in order to have "boots on the ground" to secure the final Victory in Libya is al Qaeda. ("Thank you, U.S. air power, for giving us the future Billions of dollars of Libyan oil revenues that we will use to kill Americans!")

During a break from the fighting, Abu Sultan explained that he is no stranger to bloody battles. He traveled to Iraq in 2003, incensed by the U.S.-led invasion. His brother Hassan blew himself up near a U.S. Marine vehicle, killing the Americans. Abu Sultan called home to tell his mother, and Hassan was celebrated as a martyr in the eastern Libyan city of Ajdabiya. Another brother, Abu Sultan said, has become a top commander of al-Qaeda, and is based in Afghanistan.

After his intial blunder, saner heads at the Pentagon pointed out to Obama:

"Mr. President, what about the fact that al Qaeda has been flooding Libya with radical Islamist fighters in order to be the only warring faction with the necessary "boots on the ground" to secure the final control over Libya? You specifically expect to "get out" and leave a power vacuum in Libya that al Qaeda is already mobilized to fill? It will turn over Libya and it's oil wealth over to the Islamic radicals just as surely as Jimmy Carter's blundering with another dictator turned Iran over to the Islamist fanatics."

Then, Obama realized what an idiot he has been.

"What should I do now? How can I fix this?"

"Stalemate, Mr. President. We will claim a stalemate. With Gadhafi still in power, we can use him as a proxy to keep the radical Islamists in check just like Georgw H. W. Bush used Saddam to keep the Iranian-backed, radical Islamists in southern Iraq in check in 1991 after the Gulf War."

So, the Pentagon starts making statements about "Stalemate".

This is the Charlie Foxtrot that happens when voters support a ridiculously unprepared and unqualified Affirmative Action candidate just because they absolutely adore how that candidate looks and sounds without ever bothering to figure out if that candiate would lead America into FUBAR after FUBAR through sheer ignorance and incompetence.

You do not have to be a secret al Qaeda supporter to get America into such a FUBAR and hand Billions of dollars of future oil revenue over to al Qaeda.

You just have to be so utterly unqualified to be Commander-in-Chief that you actually have the extremely naïve notion that you can:

1.) Topple Gadhafi so that

2.) America can then Cut & Run so that

3.) The Democracy Fairy can wave her Magic Wand and everybody lives happily ever after

Case in point:

"So what our president said at first, that our mission is to see Qaddafi go, he's got to go, but then we're told by one of his top advisers, the president's top advisers, saying, Well, no, really, Qaddafi is probably going to prevail on this. He's probably going to prevail over the opposition. And then our president changes the tune again, saying, Well, it's not our mission to oust Qaddafi. A lot of confusion. I would like to see, of course, as long as we're in it -- we better be in it to win it. And if there's doubt, we get out. Win it means Qaddafi goes and America gets to get on out of there and let the people of Libya create their own government" .... Sarah Palin in interview with Greta van Sustern

"But, Governor Palin, what about the fact that al Qaeda has been flooding Libya with radical Islamist fighters in order to be the only warring faction with the necessary "boots on the ground" to secure the final control over Libya? You specifically expect to "get out" and leave a power vacuum in Libya that al Qaeda is already mobilized to fill? It will turn over Libya and it's oil wealth over to the Islamic radicals just as surely as Jimmy Carter's blundering with another dictator turned Iran over to the Islamist fanatics."

"Umm ... What do you mean by "boots on the ground"? What's an "Islamist"? What does al Qaeda have to do with any of this and the Democracy Fairy?"

I don't think Obama is a "moron" ......

I think he is a traitor and deadly enemy of the American people, made so by his Bohemian mother, KGB spy grandparents (I can't prove that, but I'd happily wager a small sum), chicken-skinning homosexual Communist mentor, and his Communist pupa-handlers at Occidental College, Columbia, and ACORN.

I think he will someday be recognized for a form of treason eclipsing and transcending Benedict Arnold's.

If Sarah takes a chop on that one, so should I and the rest of us who didn't know that eastern Libya was a Salafist hotbed, and that the Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Q'aeda (but I repeat myself) had organized the original "protest" movement against Muammar the Great.

Knowing AQ and the MB are involved changes everything -- and of course their involvement will not be reported by the MSM, will it? Just as their and Obama's involvement in the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak next door was not reported, either. In fact, they barely reported the gang-rape of one of their own correspondents in broad daylight, at high noon, in the middle of a crowd.

So your chop at Sarah Palin is a bit of a low blow. How can she know what is being systematically kept from the public, both by our Benedict Arnold Pres__ent and his MSM henchmen?

Because Barack Obama never bothered to do his homework and educate himself.

I disagree. He was educated by gnarly, deeply clueful gutter-rats of the Communist International at home, at Occidental, and at Columbia University (the original "Red schoolhouse" of the East Coast) to be exactly what he is today: a skillful traitor in high office.
