Gaddafi army 'not at breaking point'
BBC News ^ | 31 March 2011

Libya leader Muammar Gaddafi's armed forces are not close to breaking point despite hundreds of allied air strikes, American military chiefs have said.

Adm Mike Mullen told a US Congress committee Col Gaddafi's troops still had 10 times the rebels' firepower.

At the same hearing, Defence Secretary Robert Gates reiterated the US would put no "boots on the ground" in Libya.

Rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces appear to have reached a stalemate in their fight for control of the country.

In recent days, rebels have been urging international forces to conduct more air strikes.

Adm Mullen told the House of Representatives armed forces committee that bad weather had stopped them from identifying targets over the past three or four days.

"[The weather] has more than anything else reduced the impact... reduced the effectiveness, and has allowed the regime forces to move back to the east," the AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

Despite the weather, he said the air strikes since the beginning of the operation had wiped out between 20% and 25% of Col Gaddafi's forces.

"We have actually fairly seriously degraded his military capabilities. That does not mean he's about to break, from a military standpoint, because that's not the case," he said.

The AQ “rebels” are now fighting against Qadaffi. I think he’s is a tyrant, but that doesn’t mean I support “rebels” that we have no idea about, let alone funding them and giving them air support. You may have missed it, FRiend, but NATO today warned these “rebels” that unless they stop killing civilians, they will be Obombed as well. How does it feel to be an Obomba supporter, FRiend

Actually, Obama's and the UN's inaction most likely will result in a rebel controlled E. Libya and a Qaddafi controlled W. Libya. Both sides will remain. That's certainly what we have right now. That seems awfully close to your position.

As I've pointed out now numerous times, I want both Qaddafi and Al Qaeda removed from Libya. That is NOT Obuma's position... and it isn't yours.

Enjoy your support of Obama and the UN.

Does the American public have the will to do that?

Will only comes into the picture if the American public thinks the rebels are the good guys and deserve our help. My impression is that their beer goggles are clearing up, and what appeared to be a young and pretty brunette from a distance is turning out to be a worn-out Helen Thomas look-alike.

Huh? I'm against this intervention, at least in terms of how your guy Obomba rushed to war without knowing who or what he was funding.

You may want to read your posts in this thread again, FRiend. Your only ally seems to be some kook comparing this to Vietnam.

Okay, Obama is not my guy, which either makes you stupid or a liar.

You accused me of supporting Obomba and the UN. Need help on reading your own posts, FRiend?

Your post #59...read it. You accused me of being an Obama supporter. That makes it ironic FRiend that you say I need help reading my own posts.

Your post, to me, said that you approved of Obomba’s actions regarding Libya. If I was wrong, I do apologize!

You would have to show me such a post.

I have posted numerous times that I believe Obama doesn't want to remove Qaddafi and he doesn't want to address any possible Al Qaeda involvement with the rebels. Those two things are the opposite of what I want.

Perhaps it's late and you misread.

Anyway, gtg.

Tis late in the post but what the heck. This is all BULLSHIT. Gates and Mullins know full well the composite mix of al Qaeda and other really radical oriented Muslim groups that reside, yea...primarily in the eastern area of the country. These two guys have been hog tied by Hillary, Rice, and Powers and a number of other super far left clowns that want to play pretty with the UN and some European powers.
I call it...
SOME CALL IT TREASON.

Americans need to take precautions against the payback.

Americans need to distance themselves from Obama

Just why doesn’t nobama release the al queda detainees in GITMO to go fight in Libya on our allies’ (the al queda Rebels’) side against Gadhafi? Wouldn’t that solve his GITMO “problem”?

Right!!! Then we can establish heaven on Earth, “DEMOCRACY”...I wonder why the founders never mentioned democracy...was there something about that word they didn’t like? UUmmmm.....those Libyan rebels probably woundn’t know a democrat from a camel, maybe we’ll just let them set up whatever they like, maybe a head choppin’, rip roarin’ Sharia monstrosity or some such. Whatever they do I’m certain it will be MUCH better than Gadaffy Duck, yeah, that’s the ticket.

Here is a "no dah" quote from an article I read this morning:

Several Cyrenaican cities have deep connections to the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), an Islamist terrorist group opposed to Qaddafi that formally joined al-Qaeda in 2007. Libyans comprised the second largest group of foreign suicide bombers used by al-Qaeda in Iraq, the majority of whom were from Cyrenaica. U.S. Admiral James Stavridis, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe who is overseeing operations in Libya, recently said there were “flickers” of an al-Qaeda and even a Hezbollah presence among the rebels

Every soldier I’ve talked to loves Gates. You only have to speak to the man to see the love and care he has for American troops. During the Bush admistration he got the usual “Bush’s stooge” insults from the left and I’m afraid many of the attacks on him now are part of the script that now that he’s not working for our guy we need to start jumping on him.

Top ranking officers in his army best consider what’s going to happen to them when their leader goes. Their lives won’t be worth a plug nickel.

They DO understand what would happen to them if they lose. That's why they're going to fight like hell to exterminate the rebels and drive them into Egypt.

And back to Afganastan where they can resume killing our Armed Forces men and women. my question is, will their cheerleaders on this forum still be allowed to cheer them on?

IMHO, if the British and the French wanted Colonel Daffy out so badly, they should had sent ground troops to seize Tripoli while the rebels still had momentum. Now if it looks like the regime will be able to remain in power, how is it going to benefit the West if Libya becomes a pariah state once again? Only this time with nothing to fear since it would had survived a direct attack from the West already.

Even IF (God Willing) we get rid of him, we are left cleaning up his mess. He has no clue what he’s doing! Those “rebels” are pre-historic animals/they’ll never be civilized. These are tribes that walk through a desert, hide in caves..climb mountains sleep in them. Ride camels for God’s sake. Watch and see....they’ve had 10 years to create this diversion. The threats are still very here and it’s coming soon. because this govt cant agree on anything.
i’ll bet you that at least 80percent of us dont know these Arab names..Mousa Kousa (or whatveer the hell!) These cities? OMG!! Tsunamis, Earthquakes. Radiation Contamination, Tornados. He’s the AntiChrist!!(maybe?)
