Will Koran Burning Be Banned In The United States?
The American Thinker ^ | April 05, 2011 | Allan Wall

Posted on 04/05/2011 4:50:37 AM PDT by Scanian

As an American in the United States of America, you are allowed to do many things.

You can burn the flag. You can burn the Bible. You can produce obscene art and sometimes even get government money to finance it.

You can make movies and TV shows that ridicule Christianity, traditional morality, and that take the Lord's name in vain.

If anybody objects to this, you can just accuse him of trying to impose his values on others. Then start talking about the Salem Witch Trials and the Spanish Inquisition.

Yes, you can do all those things, and more.

But can you burn a Koran?

Yes, but maybe not for long.

Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center, in Gainesville, Florida, became the target of world condemnation last year when he announced he would burn a copy of the Koran in protest.

President Obama didn't want him to do it. Neither did General David Petraeus, commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Actress/Activist Angelina Jolie spoke out against it. I'm still waiting for Angelina to speak out against anti-Christianity in Hollywood.

As a result of his plan to burn a Koran in the U.S.A., Terry Jones received death threats. His website was shut down. The mortgage on his church's property was called in and -- what a coincidence -- the church's property insurance was cancelled. The city of Gainesville threatened to charge the church for protection. And who knows what else happened behind the scenes? All this happened to a private group which wanted to burn a privately-owned book on private property.

What if the powers that be decide your private activity is objectionable ?

In the end, Jones decided not to burn the Koran.

That was seven months ago. But now, he and his group have finally...

Yeah, but they didn’t do that out of respect for the cross, but out of “sensitivity” to our “diverse” population.

Looks like I’m going to have to order a few free ones for grilling season, the mohammedan joke book makes excellent charcoal starter.

RE :” Yeah, but they didn’t do that out of respect for the cross, but out of “sensitivity” to our “diverse” population.

You understand my point? they are getting into hate crime logic while interpreting the constitution here,

Hate Crime : “having the wrong personal thoughts as motivation for some action that may or may not be legal in itself

Flag burning exclusion from the constitution: “Excluding certain speech (symbolism) from protection due to the assumed wrong personal thoughts as motivation for the speech by the SCOTUS

Although the hate crimes laws tend to used used exclusively for PC protected classes of people against unprotected, or those lower on the victim-ology hiarchy. The police are always investigating to find out if something was a hate crime (ie the races of the victim and victimizer.)

I like the trial of Mohammed idea. Lets put him up for examination. A lot of What Islam is today isn’t what old Mo taught long ago. He never urged women to wear Burkas. He married his friends daughter when she was age 5—but he didn’t take her to bed until she reached the ripe old age of 9. But—he did seem to love her and she did give him his only child—a little girl.

"While I think Terry Jones is an idiot and possible agent of change, if they try to outlaw burning a koran it will guarantee that I burn a whole stack of them myself."

Same here along with a whole passel of Government Pamphlets and the Entire Congressional Record.

Koran burning should stay legal. Perhaps more should be burned rather than less. Islam is a violent, aggressive religion which needs to be challenged. Right now it is conquering decadent Europe without a shot being fired.

It’s amazing and sad that this is the state of affairs in 2011.
Let us also remember that these are the scumbags that blew up statues all over the place. From 2001:
THE world's two largest standing Buddhas - one of them 165ft high - were blown up by the Taliban in Afghanistan at the weekend.
These [swear-word deleted] are in no position to complain.

I will personally organize a burn-in if they try this. I will hang posters all over the place with Mad Mo as a cartoon character announcing the burn-in.

"However, we still need to be there because as far as we know, the leaders of Al Quada are still alive and need to be wiped out or they will be a constant threat to our security."

The war is no longer against Al Qaeda, it is against.... well, I'm not sure who we are fighting there anymore. We overthrew the Taliban because they were harboring Al Qaeda. We are now fighting on the same side as Al Qaeda in Libya and supporting Al Qaeda in Egypt and Yemen.

We are no longer fighting the mission we went to Afghanistan to fight. We are burning bibles and excusing terrorism allegedly because we have freedom of speech and religion in America and the Islamists don't like it.

So if we are fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, then why are we fighting on their side in Libya? Why did we support the Al Qaeda revolutionaries in Egypt and Yemen?

To paraphrase Country Joe and the Fish:

And its one two three
What are we fighting for
Don't ask me I don't give a damn
Next stop is Afghanistan.

IMHO our mission in Afghanistan ended when our own military started burning bibles. There is nothing left there worth dying for.

I like the idea of printing the cover page of an online Koran. Dart board. Fish wraper. Lots of great stuff.

Good point!

My Bible says that “All scripture is God-breathed,” (modern translation), contradicting that clown who went on TV the other day to say that the Bible is “written by man” but the Koran was dictated to Muhammad by Allah.

Hmmmmmm...doesn’t that make all Koran translations invalid? Translations are necessarily subjective.

So get an Arab version, by all means. And hang it up next to the grill so you can start your fire with it all season.

That would be more blessed food than if you said grace before and after eating it, IMHO.

I love it!

Imagine what the muzzies would do if MILLIONS fired up their grill with “holy” pages-—in the original Arabic, of course.

“Let’s just imagine that Chamberlain had continued as wartime PM instead of Churchill. Because we have a bunch ofChamberlain types running things in the West now.”

Yes, England was VERY LUCKY to get rid of him. In the US, what do you expect? But on this site, I expect BETTER, MUCH BETTER.

It is amazing that we have Muslim APOLOGISTS running around here posting replies.

"So if we are fighting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, then why are we fighting on their side in Libya? Why did we support the Al Qaeda revolutionaries in Egypt and Yemen?"

We are fighting a combination of Al Queada and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Mostly Taliban at this point from what I'm reading. As for Libya, I reject your assertion. Sure, it has been stated that there are some Al Queada that are most likely fighting there, but the vast majority of these revolutionaries are teachers and clerks and defecting military. Regular people who want to see Gadaffi overthrown and democracy instituted. Could it be co-opted by Al Queada or the Muslim brotherhood? Absolutely. That's why I'm concerned with this hands off approach we have. I hope that CIA assets on the ground are not hands off and have identified who the possible leaders out of these revolutionaries can be. It's hard to know because we are not privileged with all of the info.

As for Egypt, the scare there is not Al Queada, but the Muslim brotherhood. It's a real concern. They could hijack the movement. I reject your assertion here also. The people that protested that lead to the ouster of Mubarack were regular people who just want liberty and not fear being arrested for speaking out against their government. Again, could it be hijacked by the Muslim brotherhood? Yes and there are some things happening now that may be disturbing. We need to be in there and get a handle on it (i.e. CIA). Yemen, I don't know much about except that their leader is pro American and I am very concerned with that situation.
