DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

You have missed the maxim of so many Freepers:
‘When in worry or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout’.

The Planned Parenthood deal is far from over. There will be a separate vote on this “rider”, and the senate members will have to show where they stand — and then explain their votes. No hiding behind “overarching goals” of the bigger picture that they usually do.

10 billion was previously cut, I’m assuming that isn’t included in the 78.5 in their statement.

Not to be a pedant, but:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/7750005/Dunkirk-the-soldiers-left-behind.html

From the article:

But history has tended to overlook the fate of the British soldiers who never made it back across the Channel: 40,000 of them were marched off by the Nazis to captivity. To boost national morale, the British press wrote about the soldiers who escaped rather than those who were left behind, but the latter suffered a miserable fate.

My point, factual and otherwise, stands. There was a hell of a fight at Dunkirk, and Churchill also said "Wars are not won by evacuations". This war, which is as vital to our national survival in its own way as Dunkirk was in 1940, will not be won by ideological evacuation.

They were also laughing at us on the eve of the Wisconsin Supreme Court election.

We laughed last.

What needs to be broadcast over and over is this: . . .

Instead, this is what is actually being broadcast:

Obama takes credit for "the biggest annual spending cut in history"

“John Boohoo is done. He’s public enemy number 2 next to any democrat. Well, maybe he’s just “number 2”. Either way...done.”

If I were a Democrat, I would jump, jump, jump with joy at having folks like you as my opposition. And I would pray that more of my opposition would express the same sentiment.
Then I would plead, “go find more Christine O’Donnells and Sharon Angles to run against me and other Democrats.”

“Why is a shutdown not a viable option?”

It’s not a viable option for the long run, because while the federal government is bloated, intrusive, and much too costly, it still does a lot of vital functions like running the military, running the FBI, CIA, FAA, DOT, federal courts, and the social security administration. We could disband the Dept. of Education and nobody would even notice, but we need most of the federal government to function over the long term to keep our country and our economy running and maintain national security. That’s why an endless stalemate and shut down is not a viable option for the GOP leadership.

“Ms. Bachmann is correct: This is not the hill to pick to battle over. It’s too small an amount; too little a deficit impact; too late in the game.”

Where did you hear her say that? She has either done a 180 or you are misquoting her. I just heard her say, at 12:14 AM that this WAS a hill worthy of fighting on, we should have fought and taken it to a shut down, and she is voting NO on it.

Col. Allen West or Michele Bachmann.

Both excellent choices! Allen West is a freshman, and therefore is unlikely to be able to garner enough votes to win the Speaker's chair. Michelle Bachmann ran for the #3 post in the House and couldn't garner the votes to win. If Boehner were to resign as Speaker, do you think either of them could win the office? And, if not, who then?
