Cyclist slapped with ticket for riding with totebag on her handlerbars (NYPD)

"He said, 'Could you get off your bike please?' " she told The Post.

"I said, 'Why?' He said, 'You're not allowed to carry a purse on your handlebars.' I thought he was joking."

Lecomte du Nouy, who had been riding down Columbus Avenue at West 100th Street on Monday at 3 p.m. en route to pick up her 4-year-old daughter at nursery school, said she nearly lost her balance when the cop asked for her driver's license.

"He gets out his little notepad and starts writing things down," she said. "Then I realized he's writing a ticket. I still thought it was a joke."

When she protested, she said the officer comforted her by adding, "Don't worry, you can go to court. The judges always throw these out."

had a young nephew pulled over for the same thing (tail light out). It was the hook that allowed the cop to start his “investigation”. Guess the cop was bored. Needless to say, he scared the bejesus out of the kid and wrote him for several minor infractions that he had had to make 6 trips to court (all but last postponed by the court) to get resolved. This has gone too far...

“’You’re not allowed to carry a purse on your handlebars.’”

Wow, where I now live, my bicycle is my only vehicle.
I am going between my beach house, a second house, and market numerous times a day.
I ALWAYS have heavy plastic bags hanging from my handlebar.
I carry everything from wine to diapers.

Apparently the rate of handbag on handlebar accidents have reached such an intolerable level that it can no longer be ignored.

I think police are cracking down for the revenue. Local police here wrote over 1000 tickets in the last month for seat belt violations.

” More utter blue state insanity. “

Don’t kid yourself that this kind of ‘insanity’ is limited to one locale, state, or region...

This week I was in NYC for three nights. The NY State and NYC tax on my hotel room was $120.

************************************

That's appalling. Are they trying to discourage tourism?

There was another thread about the focus on cyclists. Apparently some rich guy got cut off by a cyclist and donated a bunch of money to NYPD to fund enforcement. Don’t remember all the details but that was the gist of it.

We’re almost there.

That’s right...

Texas is one of the worst. I hate driving through Texas, which I do often. I sort of hold my breath till I “make it” through.

We live in a third world shiite hole. It’s time to leave where’s the Mayflower?

Apparently I’m the only person among you illuminati who asked the question as to what she was going to do with the 4 year old on the bike in NYC? Put the kid in the tote bag? Strap her to her back? Drag her home behind the bike?
You boys are slipping!

In Toronto where I used to live before I smartened up, the bloated police force regularly targets cyclists AND pedestrians to bring in revenue. The had a stop sign trap in front of our house 3 days a week and used to ticket riders for rolling stops or riding with one hand at 200 bucks a pop. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. Ironically, the unmarked car was parked right in front of the house of a major drug dealer who had a traffic jam in the back alley every Saturday night with customers. To shut that down would have required risk and effort. The worst part of all of this is that 25 percent of Toronto police officers make over 100k per year which is part of the deficit problem in the first place!

Our local “conservative” talk radio guy loves the traffic light cams. They are nothing more than revenue generating devices. I got nailed by one last year and it came with 2 photos of my vehicle and the speed i was supposedly going was attached. One pic, I’m sitting at the light and one of my brake lights is even on. The next photo shows me exactly half way through the light, a full truck lenth. I was making a right turn and at 14 mph as the ticket claimed I was going, I would have had to be at least 45 feet, TWICE as far as the photo showed! I just paid the damn thing. $125.

The government is in full control of most things. The air you breathe, the ground you walk on, what you may view, how you may travel. All of the things we consider to be naturally free and part of freedom—big government controls it all.

“I carry everything from wine to diapers..”

Just a suggestion, but maybe if you cut back on the wine consumption, you wouldn’t need so many diapers. (((giggle)))

Was the child going to ride on the handlebars too?

They make seats that attach over the back wheel for kids that size. They are fairly common where I live.

If you want to be a big shot, you've got to throw some money around.
