A floundering presidency heading for a fall? Barack Obama hits rock bottom in latest Gallup poll
(London) Telegraph ^ | April 15, 2011 | Nile Gardiner

Posted on 04/16/2011 3:18:05 AM PDT by Zakeet

The latest Gallup Daily tracking three-day average represents a new low for Barack Obama, with just 41 percent of Americans approving his job performance as president. This matches his previous lows in August 2010 and October 2010, just before the mid-term elections, and it is significantly down from his 2011 average of 48 percent. The president’s disapproval rating now stands at 50 percent, the highest point since August last year. In contrast, George W. Bush’s approval rating at this stage of his presidency stood at 70 percent (April 2003), and the average for US presidents in the ninth quarter stands at 57 percent.

Disconcertingly for the White House, his ratings have plummeted among independents, from an average of 44 percent in 2011 to just 35 percent this week, devastating figures if translated at the ballot box in 2012, where securing the independent vote will be vital. Even among Democrats, support for the president is now running at just 77 percent, down four points from the 2011 average, and down seven points from the average for 2009-11.

And if his heavily panned performance this week on the budget deficit is anything to go by, it is unlikely that the president’s ratings will be significantly improving anytime soon. Barack Obama faces an increasingly disillusioned electorate which, as the latest RealClear Politics average of polls shows, overwhelmingly believes the country is heading down the wrong track. With deep-seated fears over the economy, including towering levels of federal debt, dominating voter concerns, the Obama presidency seems destined for another fall, perhaps on an even bigger scale than the setback the Left suffered last November.

I’m surprised his approval ratings are as high as they are. There truly must be a lot of clueless people in America. The only people that seem to be doing well are government workers.

He’s expecting comments like this to revive his chances of winning: “It’s a vision that says that in order to reduce the deficit, we have to end Medicare as we know it and make cuts to Medicaid that would leave millions of seniors, poor children and Americans with disabilities without the care they need,” Obama said.

Whether he succeeds or not will depend upon the gullibility of he public. Unfortunately, the Republicans are not aggressive enough in responding.

I'm sure King Barry will be asked about the 41% number. And, I'm even more sure we'll get the standard ZER0 answer; Who you gonna believe me or your own lyin' eyes! Clinton was an amateur obfuscators compared to our current ruler.

The word aggressive doesn't belong in the same sentence with the word republicans... and I'd make that a small-r.

“The only people that seem to be doing well are government workers.”

23% of workers are either members of unions or public sector employees. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/union2.t03.htm.

41 million Americans are on Food Stamps http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/08/05/record-number-americans-receiving-food-stamp-benefits/

More than 50 million Americans are on Medicaid
http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparetable.jsp?ind=794&cat=4&sub=52&yr=207&typ=1&sort=a

In light of these numbers, it’s not hard to cobble together 41% support for this president.

Our current path isn’t the America I believe in.

It’s gratifying to know that a majority of Americans share that sentiment. Let’s hope this translates into voters telling this president “You’re fired!” in 2012.

Yep your right about that. If WI is any indication of what many in the government sector are like, then they aren’t willing to give an inch. When an economy is doing as badly as ours is, it’s time for them to feel the pain too.

Wrong. “Rock bottom” will be when gas hits $4-$5/gal. and REAL “rock bottom” will be when the Supreme Court rules that he isn’t a “natural born citizen” because his father was not a citizen of the USA. Both parents must be citizens in order for a child to be “natural born.”

It almost makes me hope for $5 gas - It will be a big inconvenience for me, but it will really hurt his Base and maybe open a few more eyes to the real Leftist agenda,

Bankruptcy attorneys must be doing well -- and my cousin, the psychiatrist, tells me he's never been busier.

Remember 40% of Americans do not pay taxes at all. Of course they approve, The black vote is pretty much locked in and the Homosexuals love the guy (LiterallY???). Then we have the mentally ill like Chris (Tingles) Mathews, and Olberman, add the incompetents in his staff he has given jobs to, and 41% probably is the bottom for him.

41% approval - if it's real - is not "rock bottom", it's not even different from Reagan in 1983.

It certainly is not inconsistent with reelection in two years.

What IS true is that 41% approval of this character is a threat to the Republic of enormous proportions.

The latest poll results don’t matter. Given a gop opposition that has made snatching defeat from the jaws of victory something of an art form, I give him a pretty good shot at re-election.

Also, remember that people vote their pocket book. Most of the population, and his base in particular, pays little in taxes anyway.

His biggest threat is a strong primary opponent.
